The food is decent but they are not good at customer service. Apparently a NEW rule took effect recently… Only one hot sauce per entrée. This must be just for To Go orders since you get all you want when you eat IN. We spent $ 40 plus on TOGO food and had 4 entries with two appetizers. We asked for 6 hot sauce and the girl at the register said she could only give us one per entrée. What??? We said! She replied: Maam, I don’t make the rules… I just work here. Oh well, we’ve been wanting to start going more to Panda and pickup stix nearby. I HATE this type of service and refuse to reward them with my dinner dollars!

My transition back to eating meat has included Mako Bowl. Mako Bowl is your basic teriyaki spot with everything ! My favorite is the spicy chicken bowl with brown rice ! It tastes really good and the portion size is just right. No frills but good quality and delicious food. Their new menu now features ramen and curry. These will be the next items that I will be trying out. Mako Bowl never disappoints.

Pathetic portions. Literally pathetic. All rice. Few full forkfuls of chicken. That’s all.

The teriyaki chicken bowl with vegetables were tasty and a great value for the money. A small chicken bowl was just under $ 6 and plenty of food. The service is quick, the food is fresh and tasty and fairly priced so I will come back when I am in the neighborhood getting a haircut.

Pathetic! I ordered the chicken katsu bowl. Mediocre is to good to call this pathetic excuse for a meal. Definitely won’t be coming back.

I was looking for teriyaki place where I could get a variety of different dishes for a reasonable price. I especially like menus that have combos that include a wide range of dishes in one combo. This place did not have that, but you can just order the sides. My wife and I both ordered Combo #2s $ 9.30 which came with chicken teriyaki, short ribs, and a choice of two side salads and a drink. My wife order the cucumber & seaweed salad and macaroni salad. I order the potato salad and macaroni salad. In addition to that I ordered a miso soup for an extra $ 1, shrimp tempura for $ 3.75, shrimp gyoza for $ 2.95, and a California roll for $ 2.60. Overall, I thought the food was fine nothing spectacular. The flavors were milder than I would have cared for, but the chicken was tender as well as the short ribs. I like the Miso soup, shrimp tempura, and California roll. They only had shrimp tempura, and I would have wished they would have had some sort of mixed tempura also missing from the menu was beef teriyaki. I would come here again for the variety total price out the door was $ 33.41 for two people.

Spicy tuna bowl… $ 11.72 w/tax. They don’t give you avocado as shown in the picture. There’s no indication that it costs extra. Isn’t that a bit misleading? Not much tuna… mostly vinegared sushi rice. It just all tasted wrong. The recipe has changed since I last tried it a month ago.

I used to frequent this establishment quite often when I worked in the area. Food was good and the favorites for me here were: Large Spicy Chicken Bowl: Not really a bowl, this comes with a bed of rice, topped with their grilled chicken and lathered with their special spicy teriyaki sauce(possibly sriracha teriyaki). You’ll also get a side of vegetables. One side is a medley of steamed vegetables and the other is steamed broccoli. Spicy Salmon Bowl: This comes with bowl of rice topped with salmon sashimi that is tossed in their special spicy sauce and greens onions. This is usually a special request on the«secret menu.» Just ask the cashier and the will ask the guys in the back to see if they have the ingredients to make it. This is a particular item that you either love it or hate it. I kinda love it. You can also order this with a side of avocado, but it will be extra. Both have a good kick of spiciness. For some, it can be too much. Service is usually pretty quick here too.

It’s fast and the food is fresh. Whenever I’m trying to eat healthy but need something quick, this is where I go. Love the spicy tuna bowl and salmon bowl. Don’t forget to add avocados!

This is my go-to place to get either Chicken Katsu or Teriyaki Chicken. Affordable. Brown rice is 75¢ extra, just a heads up. Will always choose this place over any other competition like B-Mans…etc.

Review 63 If you love Teriyaki Chicken, you’ll love Mako Bowl! I’ve been eating here for over 10 years and to date they don’t disappoint, you’ll always be served fresh moist chicken made a few meters away from the register. The sauce in my opinion is what makes/breaks a restaurant, the sauce here is very thick, soy sauce base and not over sweetened. The sides I normally pick are any combination of steamed vegetables, potato salad and a traditional green salad with a non oily ginger sesame dressing. Plan B I only submit 5-Star reviews, if I post a review it’s cause ‘hat’s off” I recommend the establishment and will return for another experience. I don’t feel the need to submit a review with less than 5-Stars, regardless if I check in, submit a picture or tip. I suggest Unilocal change it’s reviews to a category scoring system, then is when I can be fair and review each place I visit. PM me if you like additional information.

This place has great food I’ll admit it I grew up with it but system of the place changed… now that there’s new workers nothing is the same. Starting with the new cashier she has very bad service and the other older lady thats there is always in a bad mood… Honestly its better for the owner to close down the place then hiring new workers that don’t have as much charisma and friendliness that the previous works had. There so much bad service these few days starting with the attitude and ending with the very burned food that was horrible… Mako has died for some people i know and its gonna continue to died my friends and I are never gonna be back there…

The spicy tuna bowl with avocados is good. The portions are big but it’s expensive, $ 12.50 for the bowl. The color is very vibrant. It could use some more vegetables. It’s also seasoned very well, it definitely doesn’t need any soy sauce.

The Large Katsu Curry Plate is better than B-Man’s, there’s more potatoes and carrots in the curry and it’s off to the side, the katsu is still crispy on a bed of steamed rice without being slathered with all the curry… Prices have crept up and the avocado topping on the bowls seems more chintzy…

Been craving some spicy tuna and thought after a good hike, I’d get some spicy tuna with some Jamba Juice. But honestly, not that great. Been to places that are a lot better. Spicy Tuna Bowl: it was a shredded & bit dry and didn’t have enough spice or flavoring. The coloring was good but the taste wasn’t as good. Price:$ 10.50 Teriyaki Bowl: this dish comes with broccoli which was distasteful and brownish at the end. Really dry. The teriyaki chicken was bland. It was a good thing there was a lot of sauce or I would have been a lot more disappointed. Price: $ 5.45 Would I come back here again? No. It was pretty expensive for a distasteful experience.

I want to know what’s that tang stuff they put in their spicy tuna bowl?! Seriously! Has liquid crack finally been invented and then secretly placed in the spicy tuna? Whatever it is, its good. The whole damn thing is good. Perfectly constructed. Rice is nice sticky, just the way it should be. The tuna, the most important part, is tasty! That liquid crack, some kind of rice wine vinegar is what I’m guessing, the black sesame seeds, the onion and jalapeño make a perfect combination. They throw a couple of slices of avocado on top, a little dab of wasabi that we mix in and it is good to go! Oh?! Maybe the tangy taste is soy mixed with wasabi?! We tried the chicken teriyaki and the bbq beef short ribs. Both are heavy on yummy flavor. Chicken has been perfectly cooked the last two times we’ve gone and as well as the beef. My one gripe is that I wish those beef ribs had more meat on them! Overall, the food is always fresh and we’ve enjoyed it the three times we’ve been here. I only wish there was one closer to me in Montclair.

As I was pondering to find something good to eat, I stumbled across this place and decided to try it. Tables weren’t clean, but they weren’t really dirty either. I got the Chicken and Beef, and it tasted great! The only thing I didn’t really like was the bones on the type of beef I got. It made eating this very messy.
