I knew from the reviews that I shouldn’t expect much, but looking for a cheap sushi place down the street from where I was house/dog sitting, so I thought«it can’t be that bad!» First annoyance, the prices reflected online are off by $ 2 – 3 dollars each item. Second, the place is so run down, paper peeling off the walls, dirty tables, I wouldn’t ever physically eat here. Luckily I ordered take out… or so I thought. Poor quality fish on top of poorly wrapped rolls. Luckily my non fish eating friend ordered a bento box and we shared his dinner that night. $ 50 of sushi in the trash.

I love coming by here for a quick bite to eat when I am so tired of everything else on fast food row. If you are looking for some Japanese home cooking then this is the place to try. The couple who runs this place is absolutely adorable so it is always fun to come in and say hello. I was so unbelievably happy to learn that they sell ramune! I LOVERAMUNE! Everytime I stop by I get my gyoza bowl and ramune and it makes me oh so happy! The prices are good and it’s in a plaza with ample parking so stop on by if you are in the neighborhood.

First timer here after always putting it off, exceptionally great service from the owner. Even offered free miso soup. Huge fan of the food here as well, Happy bowl definitely makes me happy.

Overall, I like this place. It’s near my house, its not overly expensive, and the people that work there have always been nice. However, it’s not a place you would expect a decent dining experience or take a date if you want to impress her. I have only ordered Sushi-rolls from the place, but the rest of the menu looks appetizing. I give it only 3 starts because I spend the same amount of money on sushi-rolls at places that are much better. This place(to me) is a bit pricey, considering its location, design, and interior seating furniture. I’ve been to Sushi places that are a lot nicer charge the same prices. But the quality of the sushi I get is quite decent(I get Unagi rolls, not raw fish rolls btw), so I can’t complain too much. But the way it looks on the inside, in addition to its location, is the main reason I always get my order to go, and I don’t order raw fish rolls. Their online menu:( ), is what first got me to go to this place, but once you enter a lot their prices have been increase by $ 2-$X amount of dollars. It is still my ‘go to’ place for when I need a quick sushi fix and don’t feel like having a dine-in experience. I still love it btw, don’t get me wrong please. I just think it’s a bit pricey, especially when you consider the fact that there are literally fancier/better sushi places within a two minute drive of Maki Yaki.

The mini chicken bowl is the best deal in the area if you are looking for any type of rice bowl. On top of amazing lunch specials the owners are extremely kind and gracious to all their customers.

Honest to god what are the bad reviewers even complaining about? This place is soooo good and fairly priced. The owners are always so nice and always want to make sure everything is to your liking. And it is! Obviously it’s not gonna be your gourmet noodle restaurant but it is the best mini mall yakisoba noodle spot! Everything on the menu is so good, I wouldn’t be disappointed if I ordered blindly.

Really love this place for a fast lunch. Their sushi is very yummy! BIG menu selection! If you like spicy, can’t go wrong with the spicy pork with rice and veggies. :) The owners are so nice and sweet and the help you pick out you want. Big plus!

This is one of best and fresh sushi places nearby. The owners are so friendly. Some of the other dishes are good too. For an easy lunch that’s tasty and fresh, you can’t go wrong here. I frequent this place at least once a week.

This is the most unprofessional place ever. The food was average but the price was ridick. I can’t speak for everyone else but i really do hate it when workers try to talk to me. This is not your average being friendly small talk. This is trying way too hard to be «friendly» if you guys know what i mean. First thing she did when my friends and i walked in was asking us if we were Korean, who the f does that? What was she going to do if we weren’t? and why does it matter? When i reluctantly answered yes she went off in Korean and then she legit stepped away from the register and stood next to me, recommending EVERYTHING on the menu. I think i would have appreciated that more if I or any of my friends asked her for recommendations, but we didn’t. Food was overpriced, $ 15 for 8 piece rolls stuffed with mayo and imitation crab meat? Do yourself a favor and go to sushi stop, the quality is about the same but the price is the difference between heaven and hell. And their spicy tuna is REALLLY spicy, way spicier than any other i had. The only thing decent here was their teriyaki, but i like my chicken kind of dry and jerky like texture, which it was. During our meal she kept coming by and talked throughout most of our meal. She kept on mentioning how chinese customers spend at least $ 30 when they come as if to imply as koreans we should spend more? maybe not, but my friends and i agreed that’s how it came across. Probably won’t be coming back here ever.

No long review, the food is really really good. Spicy tuna tempura style Cali roll and tempura mix veggies and Thai tea… Delicious

Pretty expensive but the food was alright. I don’t think I’ll be coming here because of the prices unless I’m stoned with $ 100 dollars to shit out for food.

So I just recently ordered the Cali deep and spicy tuna. Well let’s start with the pros when I first entered the the place they have a pretty big menu and I didn’t know what to get. One of the ladies that worked there was nice enough to pretty much walk me through the menu and give recommendation to my likings. It about 20 min to get my rolls as well as my miso. I have to be honest about it at first glance when you come to this locations you feel like you might get food poisoning. This was not the case, the reason why I am giving this place four stats is because of the taste for an order of Cali deep it was like 5 bucks and the spicy tuna was like 10bucks. I didn’t mind paying that however the Cali deep tasted pretty simple generic flavor while the spicy tuna roll was pretty damm good all in al 4⁄5 good place to come if you want a quick fix or lunch.

I appreciate the fast and courteous service, however, when I order a chicken bowl, I expect the chicken to prepared at that time and not beforehand. Thank you.

Beef bowl is so good… It is not the typical authentic japanese restaurant but quick to-go place. You can call them 15mins before and pick-up as soon as you arrive. Pricing is reasonable. Their grilled goods(yaki) are much better than their sushi&maki(rolls) :) Once in a while i crave this place for dat beef bowl

The owners always seem really nice. The prices seem a bit inflated but they pretty much own the area in sushi without having to drive around too much. Their specials are nice and it’s quite a lot of food. They’ll let you substitute pretty much anything for an up charge, and eating in gets you some miso soup on the house. The tables are clean and it’s really quiet. Very relaxing. I may have gone protein overload by substituting California roll for Spicy Tuna, but it was worth it. It was actually spicy without having to add sriracha. I like this place but I feel they could be more affordable out of this location, but they are a beacon of light in a rather dim plaza.

This place is tucked away in a corner of a HUGE plaza… I was attending a service a couple blocks away from this place, and a few of the members of our 17-person party found this place. The place is really small, so needless to say, we packed the place! I think the owner and the cook were surprised by the sudden wave of orders… The food is decent. Actually, it was better than I thought it would be. The owner reminded me a lot of my mom when my parents were running their own restaurant: a little overwhelmed, friendly as hell, visibly stressed by her lack of English, and yet, loving the fact that she’s got customers to serve.

I’m a fan of the Duarte location and this particular Maki Yaki was relatively close to school, so I thought that this would be a good place to stop by for lunch. A few major differences: 1) Prices for some of the rolls here are more expensive and some of the better lunch combination options aren’t available 2) Sushi is not as fresh… more like not fresh at all, actually 3) Portions are smaller They didn’t have the beef teriyaki + sashimi combination that’s served at other locations, so I went for the sushi combination instead. It came with 2 pieces of tuna and 2 pieces of salmon(as opposed to 1 piece each of salmon, tuna, albacore and yellowtail), 4 California rolls(as opposed to a heaping helping of beef teriyaki and rice), miso soup and tempura. Even though the sushi combination cost just as much as the teriyaki and sashimi combo, there was a significant difference in the amount of food. Honestly, it wouldn’t have been such a big issue had the food tasted good, but of course, that wasn’t the case… Which brings me to quality. The fish was terrible! I wasn’t expecting excellent grade fish, because the fish from the other Maki Yaki wasn’t super fresh either, but the tuna and salmon were just appallingly bad. They were bland and rubbery, and I did not finish either of the two. It’s a wonder that I didn’t get food poisoning, considering how old the fish tasted. Blech. The California rolls were just average. I didn’t think they could mess up the tempura, but the tempura was awful. The vegetables were overcooked and the fried batter wasn’t crunchy. The miso soup was the only thing that I was okay with, but that didn’t make up for the sushi and tempura. This is one of the few times that I had to go against my philosophy of not wasting food and discarded the remaining portions of my lunch. Prices for their lunch combinations are a bit higher than the Duarte location’s and the food is of a substantially inferior quality. Not coming back!

The selection — vast(80-something items, not including the lunch specials or other add-on menu choices). The prices — okay(lunch special is $ 6.75, most rolls are $ 7 – 9, noodles etc about the same). The ambience — just all right. Yes, this place is in a strip mall, next door to an Anna’s linens and a Subway. The clientele — kinda rough around the edges(my coworkers and i not included.), but we had the company of a sheriffs deputy to keep the ruffians at bay. The owners were nice and very friendly. Service pretty fast for the number of orders going thru the place. It’s in the neighborhood so i’ll prob be back at some point. I had a chicken teriyaki plate(I’m a little wary to try the sushi at a place like this) w/california rolls, white rice, and a soda. Plus miso soup to start and a slice of watermelon to end. $ 7 for lunch is okay by me, considering I can spend that at the taco bell down the street from my office and feel much less satisfied.
