I love their rib eyes! It is awesome! It is also nice that a wedge of blue cheese lettuce and an lime sherbet to clean your pellet! yummy!

JJ Steak House is located upstairs from the Melting Pot. The interior of the restaurant is dimly lit. Service is good. However, the atmosphere has a spurious feel. Certainly, the steaks are good. As for the seafood… our waiter claimed that the Chilean Sea Bass is flown fresh from Chile within a day. Whether true or not, the Sea Bass was good, but certainly nothing rave about. All entrées come with wedge salad… which I enjoy. Seafood prices range between $ 21 and $ 28(approximate). Steak prices range between $ 29 and $ 43. Certainly, JJ Steak House is worth a try. But if given the choice between JJ Steak House and Arroyo Chop House, I would select the latter.

I’ve been here three times and had a great experience with all the trips. First off, it’s hard to spot while driving in the street. It’s located in a small three story building, right upstairs from the Melting Pot. Luckily there is a parking structure right around the corner. I strongly suggest getting any of their steaks. The filet mignon is one of the best i’ve ever had. I can’t recall any steaks i’ve had that was more delicious or tender. I’ve sampled their chicken, which was actually pretty bad. It was dry and bland, so I’ve learned my lesson from that. encounter. Just stick to what works, the beef! To match the great steaks is the outstanding service. The waiters and bus boys are always floating around, ready to clean up and refill drinks. Oh BTW, there are NO free refills on drinks(except water). I only wish they told me that before I asked them to refill my soda twice(which was about $ 3 a pop). It’s also pretty dim inside, which makes it a fine choice for taking dates. I believe on weekends there is a live harp player as well, which only adds to the ambiance. I would definately come back if i’m dying for some great steaks.

The steaks are great, particularly the ribeyes and the filets. Out of the handful of times I’ve enjoyed them, the only time I’ve been disappointed was when my steak wasnt served sizzling hot — seemed like it was left hanging too long. The wedge salads they serve there are the best I’ve ever had. Yes, wedges are remarkably simple. But the blue cheese crumbles, the balsamic-based dressing, and the crispness of the wedge and the generousity of the portions make it noteworthy. The between-meal Sorbet is also a nice treat. Tasty and a great palate cleanser. Does the job! Don’t bother with the seafood. Stick with the steak.

It is very dark and intimate. Great location if you want to have dinner and then check out the local area. The food was good. My filet was good, and the wine paired well. If you are in Pasadena, it is a great intimate spot.

The service was pretty bad, the bartender was rude and humorless, the music… well the dj was spinning some cool stuff… but still. I really hope the owner gets her @#$% straight and makes some changes. This place has some real potential.

I am JJ’s kind of customer and I know it. I’m a businessman who appreciates a top quality steak in an environment where you don’t have a bunch of trust funders and Hollywood types looking for a killer DJ and the latest fad drink. Or anybody who looks like their trying to be impressive because they have a bluetooth headseat on even when they’re not talking to anyone. Well, that was me four years ago, so I could be more forgiving. But I’m not, so piss off pikers. I’m not looking for a waiter to recite Shakespeare or pretend to lick my shoes. I don’t need a huge explanation except if there’s a special. It’s a chop house, I know what’s going to be on the menu. Just tell me if you’re out of something. Fine. I get a Jack & Coke. I get a medium rare ribeye with Bearnaise on the side. I get corn or spinach depending on my mood. I kick back and check my email or listen to Tom Keene’s podcast. I’m good. There’s medium slow original bebop on Muzak. I appreciate that. The joint is mostly empty and the waiter wants to make sure I come back. I appreciate that too, it is a recession, but the business traveler must go on. Now it’s true that I’m not in a mood to throw down 80 bucks every week for a nice piece of beef, but when I do, I know what I like and I like the way JJs does it. So here’s a bit of comparison. JJs Pasadena is a bit more dolled up than say the Hyde Park Grill in Cleveland. But not quite as buzzy and busy as a Morton’s. It’s in what I would say is just the part of it’s lifetime where it’s starting to look almost old. It won’t be there for another 5 or 7 years, but it’s just over the hill. Which means it’s just unpopular enough to be popular for somebody pushing 50. As for the food. It’s high quality, expensive, predictable. Like a good pair of wingtips. Just my speed.

The steaks are good. Very good. Better than Arroyo Chop house. Better than Ruth’s Chris. A few years ago, the steaks weren’t so good and I stopped going, but when I went back recently(twice), the steak was excellent. Tender, cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. The second time I tried the Wagyu NY Strip and it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had and it wasn’t that expensive for Wagyu. Everything else is pricey though. Service was consistently good. Try the wedge salad. It’s good. Their duck is the best duck breast I’ve had in long time.

You’re definitely better off at Houston’s or Ruth’s Chris. Overpriced, pretentious and not very comfortable. The food is very good, I can’t fault that. But for the money there’s much better experiences and food to be had within a stone’s throw of this place. Everything is Ala Carte which leads to the high sticker price at the end of the night. Service tries to be very high-end but comes off like they’re actors researching a part as a waiter in a movie. For this kind of price point I want professional waiters, people that view it as a career, nay, a calling.

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. My friends and I have been to all the local steakhouses and love to compare them. This one by far has been the worst. Presentation was nice, portion sizes were ok, the service was horrible. If I’m paying $ 45 for a steak I want better service than I could get at TGIFs. They did nothing right and we were about one of four parties in the room so it wasn’t like they were busy. I would pass on this one, Morton’s Flemings, and Ruth’s are all better choices for your money.

Boo!!! N.G. I was so disappointed with JJ Steak House. I’ve always wanted to try this place as I lived in Pasadena for 13 years. I’ve been to many steakhouses in my life, and this was the worst experience I’ve had. I must admit the food is decent, I give it 3 stars. But the service was a negative 2 stars. HORRIBLE service. They charge 5 star restaurant prices, but I’ve had better service at Denny’s. What’s worse is that we were the only customers in the restaurant! Our server never explained the menu. The menu didn’t state that our steaks came with mashed potatoes, so we all ordered potatoes(or similar side dish). The server didn’t state that the size of the side orders were large enough for all of us to share. So we ended up with a crapload of potatoes. Our server boxed up everyone’s leftovers except mine, I had to ask twice. I was never asked what kind of beverage I would like. so I just stuck with the tap water. Everything is overpriced by about $ 7. The décor is nice, bordering on tacky, it reminds me of Caesar’s Palace. Go spend your hard earned money somewhere else. Skip this place.

The bf took me to dinner here for my bday. I should of went with my first instincts and said Houston’s but I didn’t want to wait an hour for a steak. We had reservations for a Xmas eve which was probably unnecessary because it wasn’t busy at all. I got the petite fillet with au gratin potatoes. The fillet came out more on the medium to medium well side when I asked for Medium rare. The potatoes were really salty!!! The bf got the wagu fillet. His piece looked exactly like my piece and tasted the same way. He ordered the sauteed broccoli but they brought out creamed spinach for him. We ate it anyways and it was good at all. I knew I should of went to Houston’s to get my Hawaiian Rib eye instead.

I came here on Christmas Eve, for our company Luncheon. yea no party this year because our economy. Whatever. anyways. The food was VERY good. Our appetizers were delicious, unfortunately I didn’t get the name of what I had, but we had some of the best scallops I have ever had in my life. And a filet mignon quesadilla which was okay. I also had this um… interesting salad. Basically the dressing is on the bottom of the plate. and on top of that is a quarter of a lettuce. It wasn’t bad, in fact it was quite good. but it just seemed weird to me. For my main course I had the filet mignon, and it was delicious. made perfectly. Food presentation was also top notch. The service was fantastic. They were very friendly and very funny. Now I have seen how other people have said that this place is too expensive. I looked up prices and yea it seems like it. but since i didn’t actually pay for any of this I wouldn’t be able to tell you yes or no. All I can say is that this place is great.

My husband and I trickled in late on a Friday night craving for a steakhouse and what we found was this awkward looking restaurant, I mean it had statues, columns, a cheaper looking Caesars Palace type. The music was blaring from a live salsa band, the place was spacious but empty. As we requested for a table for two they had as waiting for quite sometime as the two gentlemen behind the desk argued where to put us. Finally they agreed on a nice corner both. My spirits slowly rose until our waiter came. This man who chose to yell insisted that we didn’t need to see the menu and to trust him to order since he has been doing this for 20 years. Really? I insisted I wanted my menu and after he got us our drinks which were remarkably fast by the way. We ordered and my husband chose what our overbearing waiter recommended the Kobe beef and I got what I wanted the Chilean sea bass. I also asked if the salad that it came with had bacon and if so to please take it out. He replied no and said«how kosher» Uh ok?! The salads came out fast and the lemon sorbet they provide you between salad and entrée was delicious! The entrée’s were good. No dessert even when our waiter insisted. Overall JJ Steakhouse has a cheap looking ambiance, the service needs a little tweaking and a little too fast, the food was delicious, will I go back? NO! For their prices, I’d rather eat at Mastro’s, Ruths, Cut, Morton’s, Flemmings!

This will be the place I will go for the rest of my life for steak forever and ever! Their steaks are so tender and flavorful. Unlike other steakhouse i’ve been to like Ruth’s Chris and Maestro, JJ steakhouse steak actually taste like their price. Their sides are excellent. I tried New York as well as their filet mignon. They were both excellent, so if you just want steak and don’t care for the difference between the two, then save some money and just get the NY. I tried the crème brûlée, they had the original and a chocolate flavor one. That night we had a double date, so we ordered both and shared. Both were excellent. The sides are great, scallops cooked perfect. Very romantic atmosphere, there’s an outside 3rd floor patio/balcony you can sit. We chose to sit inside because they had a harp player inside that night. It was just overall a great experience. The restaurant was pretty busy that night, so our server didn’t come check on us as often as I would like. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this place. GETTHESTEAK, any steak,!! You won’t regret it. Medium rare is perfect!

While I’m sitting around waiting for my face mask to harden I thought I’d write a review of our experience at JJ Steak House. Food…not good Ambiance…nice Service…not bad Price…too expensive Bad experience… When we received the bill we passed it on to our human calculator and she was able to calculate the exact amount we needed to put in. Not a problem, all put in cash except one person put in a credit card. Our friend collected the money and counted it at least 3 times, I was too far to see but know that she’s good. Everyone left except for a few of us and the waiter tells us that the bill is $ 20 short. How could this bill be exactly $ 20 short??? Well if someone who worked there snaked a bill, then it would be short. The waiter charged our other friend who was paying with her credit card $ 20! We met up with our friends afterwards and told them and I was surprised to hear that this has happened to a few of them at other restaurants! Will never go back here again!

I went to JJ’s steak house tonight and found it very nice. There were tons of people there. But the seating that we were in was very quiet and reserved. The service was excellent nothing to complain about and the bathrooms were nicely cleaned. Also the food was whatever… I mean it just taste like how any ordinary steak house should taste like. It wasn’t anything amazing or anything to rave a lot about. I was just satisfied and happy about the service but it isn’t like«The best place I have ever been» type of deal. I can say the sides for the meal was ok the vegetables were more expensive then the potato sides and yes they are really actually big portions so you can share with people! Which is good. because most places that say they are big portions aren’t big at all.

Known in the Pasadena area to be particularly expensive and exclusive, it fell short of my expectations. Not that the food was bad, but it was mediocre at best and quite expensive. Ambiance & Service — It’s definitely one of the nicer steakhouses in the area. Service is professional and courteous — great to impress clients or dates. Its definitely a more formal environment, so dress accordingly. Food — I was with a big group and we split a bunch of side dishes: Asparagus, Spinach, Mashed Potatoes, Mushrooms, etc. All were pretty good. My Filet Mignon, however was mediocre. Overly charred on the outside with very little marbling. The worst part about the night? For a party of 12, they charged us $ 40 to cut and serve a cake that WE brought! $ 80 for bottle water? Absurd.

JJs is expensive. But hey, it was on the company so who cares, right? The ambiance is what I would imagine Liberace’s house would look like. Decked out with chiffon, netting, pillars, statues of dead Greek or Italian people and heads, even decked out with a harp. The menus and napkins were purple. The drinks were weak. I have a few belvedere tonics… tasted ok. My boss got some fruity drink that looked like minute maid fruit punch. On to the food. Ordered the crab cakes for appetizers. They come in 2. It was actually very good. lightly breaded and full of lovely lady lumps of crab meat. Tasty. The remoulade(fancy name for tartar sauce) was pink and tasted cajun-esque. Recommended. Next came the wedge salad. Not a fan. The balsamic was a little too vinegary, and the blue cheese overpowered. I hate wedge salads. It reminds me of rabbit food. It’s lazy man’s salad… oh lets just cut up a head of lettuce into 4s. On to the main dishes. Fillet Mignon runs about $ 34 and a 3 lbs of lobsters were like $ 69. Tbone was about $ 37 as well. That is like 3 pairs of shoes at Neo 39. Anyway, Had that fillet. Medium Rare was awesome. Very tender and prepared very well. They also provided a palate cleanser of sorbet. Nice. The sides we got were asparagus(which were excellent) and garlic mashed potatoes… very smooth and creamy. You can almost feel the pounds stack on when you eat a bite from the rich cream, lard, fat, butter, garlic… oh so good. Skip the bread, its gross and dry. 3 fillet mignons, 1 Tbone, 2 sides, appetizers, 2 rounds of drinks for 4 people ran about $ 400+ plus tip. Come here if you are rich, or if the company is paying for it. Clearly everyone else was as well. The average age was about 50 and everyone looked liked businessmen. I think there are some tables at the balcony which you can see the sunset, however on a day like yesterday when Pas was 95, highly unrecommended. The End. I feel like I am going to have a heart attack from all that meat now.

If you’re looking for a great steakhouse, you’ve found it. The company I used to work for had their corporate and Christmas parties here and I helped organize them. You should make a reservation to come here because it is so popular. The staff are GREAT, and the owner is very accommodating. ~food~ The steaks and crab cakes are excellent. In fact, everything is great on the menu. ~price~ The food is great… at a price. This is a «special occasions» kind of place. You may pay between $ 20-$ 30 a plate for your main course. A bit pricey but well worth it. ~ambiance~ Like I said, this is a special occasions place. There are great big cozy booths for couples and the lights are dimmed in the place for romance. ~service~ The wait staff are great — very knowledgeable and attentive.
