In a previous life, I was one of those management consulting schmucks, who would travel all over the world, and stay at the 4 Seasons and only slum it at the Westin if I absolutely had nowhere else to go, when the Waldorf was booked solid… But, I’ll tell ya, NONE of those places holds up in a head-to-head with a place like Mountain’s Edge. In the end, a place like the Waldorf is a very nice, very professional place… it’s the perfect place to stay if you’re in town for an IMF meeting or if you need a big suite, along with several rooms for your entourage of secret service agents, because you just happen to be the dictator of a tiny Middle Eastern oil nation. But, if you’re in Park City to go skiing and have fun and enjoy the snow with friends and family, you want something a little more convenient and down-to-earth and friendly. Mountain’s Edge are 2 condos owned by Rhonda & Terry. They have lovingly maintained the condos and have made them an absolutely amazing place to stay when you’re in Park City. You have access to the hot tub, the sauna, the steam room, and all the little amenities and personal touches that you’d never find in a hotel room — they even have Café Ibis coffee.(No, joke, Café Ibis coffee is «triple certified, organic, fair trade, Smithsonian-certified shade grown«bird-friendly» coffee. How funny is that?) What my wife and I found particularly convenient is the fact that you are literally slope side, at the base of Park City Mountain Ski Resort. You’re just steps away from the ticket office, rentals, shops, etc., etc. My wife and I were able to ski-in and ski-out, come back to the condo for lunch, go back and forth when we forgot something we needed — it makes for a really convenient ski trip, as opposed to something akin to a military campaign, i.e., something you have to plan out months in advance for. Look, I have nothing against the 4 Seasons and the Waldorf. Believe me, more than anyone else, I wish I still had access to my old corporate expense account. But, given the choice, I’d choose to stay at Mountain’s Edge any day of the week. Something about Rhonda and Terry’s personal touches and their attention to us helped to make the entire stay the very, very best.
