I recently moved and was looking for a reliable place to go for an eye exam and purchase new glasses. It’s always a bit nerve wrecking when leaving one place to search out another, but when stumbling upon Sterling Optical when shopping at the Paramus mall, I couldn’t have been more pleased with the service and the quality of my new glasses. The staff was super helpful in answering all my questions(believe me there were a lot of them). And they have a great selection of frames to choose from. I am relieved knowing I have a great and trusty optometrist right around the corner.

Never understood why anyone would give this place less than 5 stars. I have been going here for years and it has ALWAYS been a pleasant experience. The staff is extremely accommodating and friendly. Not only are they informative, but they also suggest great options to try on. I highly recommend coming here.

I went to this store 11⁄2 years ago. The eyeglasses were not done correctly from the beginning. They kept hitting my eyelashes each time I wore them. I went back to the store several times and they were not fixed even though they told me they were. The eyeglasses just never fit well. This is the worse place I have ever been to for eyeglasses. The male who took care of me was not attentive to my needs at all. I will never step foot in that store again. The worse experience! By the way I paid $ 574.00 for junk.

Once again Sterling Optical saves my day!!! I scratched the lenses on my sunglasses, just in time for vacation. I went to them on Monday told Sandy what happened and that I needed new lenses by Thursday as I was leaving Friday. Sandy and Mike put on their superhero glasses and got me my new lenses!!! DONOTGOHERE. YOUWILLWASTEYOURMONEY. Awful place to get your glasses. They don’t know how to thin your lens if you have really high prescription. I know plenty of places that knows how to do it and the guy working there was arguing with me on that. He was extremely rude. I wasted my time and money by going here. They are not knowledgeable when you ask questions. Avoid at all costs.

This is the third time I have been to Sterling Optical at Paramus Park Mall and the entire staff is extremely helpful and professional. From making the initial eye exam appointment(and Dr. Yee was very thorough and listened to my concerns) to actually selecting the frames and lens. The optical staff, Sandy and her assistants, were friendly, pleasant and extremely accommodating. My glasses were finished 3 days earlier than expected. Once I received my glasses, the clarity of the prescriptions were outstanding — by far — surpassed any of those«highway optical stores» that I have dealt with in the past. The people writing the negative reviews must be very unhappy people and difficult to please — I can’t understand why anyone would write a negative review about Sterling Optical! They have a loyal customer with me!

I’m pleasantly surprised that I am able to give this store and it’s employees a 5 star rating. After reading the negative reviews I was hesitant to go there, but since it’s location was so accesable in the food court I went anyway to check it out and am very happy I did. I am not a newbie to the optical world and am quite knowledgeable myself concerning frames and lens. I’m telling you this so you understand that it would be difficult for someone to «pull the wool over my eye» on regards to this topic. That all said: the doctor was excellent.informative.and most importantly PATIENT, a trait not common among dr’s and the staff(i believe Sandy/Ally) were all knowledgeable, professional and even funny. A great team. I even asked to speak with the owner(mike) for the sole purpose to get an impression of him for myself. I asked several questions regarding lens(all of which I knew the answers) and found no fault in his responses. All in all: I WILLOBVIOUSLYRECOMMENDTHISSTERLINGOPTICAL and urge you to visit there and form your own opinion. P. s. I found a great pair of sunglasses there as well.

Ever have a service provider tell you that it is illegal for them to provide you with the personal data YOUJUSTPAIDTHEMTODEVELOP? Ever get duped into paying way too much for glasses based on a direct mail coupon that seems too good to be true(and is)? Well, if you want to be jerked around and ripped off, this is the place for you. The glasses I got should have cost half as much. Shame on me for not pricing them on the internet first. I was in a rush. Had I read the other reviews on Unilocal,I never would have taken the leap. Their inventory is thin, and dated. OK, so I overpaid. I’m over that. But at least I received an eye exam, got measured and fitted — all of which generated data that belongs to and is personal to me! I had to ask twice for a written Rx when I picked up my glasses. When I asked for additional dispensing data a couple of weeks later(pupillary distance, temple size, eye measurement, etc.), the optician(Mike) told me it is against the law for him to provide that information. Really?! After telling him I was a lawyer and that I knew what he said was not true, he backed off and gave me the information I needed. Do these people think that folks who shop at a mall are stupid? Just because I now wish to price another pair of glasses on the internet and save a few bucks(and get better quality) is not reason enough for Sterling to withhold information I bought and paid for. Shame on you folks! I can appreciate that internet commerce has hobbled many neighborhood opticians and other small businesses, but that’s the way of the world today. Adapt or perish! Had Mike not apologized for his deception, I would have taken this matter further. Probably worth a letter to the franchisor whose trademark is being trashed by the owners of this establishment. As it is I agree with all the other one star reviewers and suggest you look elsewhere for your glasses.

went to get an exam and glasses on a recommendation of a neighbor who told me they loved their pair of glasses they got there. I called and made an appt. I did not know what my insurance was, but the girl on phone was great, she took my info found out my plan and details and got me in the next day. Dr Yee was very nice and she took her time and I got a GREATEXAM .(I have bad vision so I have had lots of exam’s) came out and the optician(Mike) helped me, he was very patient with me I’m very picky, and know what I like. The other girls in store Ali and sandy also helped me choose, they have very good idea’s on what fits and what won’t. I ended up with two pair of glasses that I LOVE ! THANKS, one pair for work and one pair I use at home.(I spent less then I thought I was going to spend) Thanks to them I would recommend this place to my family and friends. I’m going back next week with my son to get exam and glasses(his first pair, very excited)

Horrible horrible place, stay away. My boyfriend went here for an appointment, paid $ 180.00 for a contact lens exam. The trial lenses he was given were wrong, and after months of not returning phone calls to correct the problem, he finally got in to see the doctor who insisted to try to charge him another exam fee, even though they’re good for a year and it had not been a year. He was rude and disrespectful. We are now having to dispute the charge paid. DONOTGOHERE!

Agree with the others. Service was terrible. They just want your money, they don’t care about you getting what you need. Had problems with my trial contacts causing my eyes to itch due to dryness and instead of just writing me a prescription for the brand of contacts I told them I had used for years without an issue, told me I need to pay for an office visit before they would do that. This really should have been a courtesy call since I did contact them within my 30 day period and did not get a call back until the following week when I was not available to come in. Oh, and do not bother to talk to the owner, Michael, because he doesn’t care.

Short and sweet… I wish I could give ZERO stars. Stay far away Sterling Optical in the Paramus Park Mall. The people are nasty and rude, especially the manager Michael. The doctor who examined my eyes is a quack. She wrote my prescription backwards and refused to address it. I guess there’s a reason she works in a mall and not in private practice. I’ll spare you the other details, but they are also liars and treated my wife and me like crap. If you value your eyes don’t go there.

I had a groupon deal, but, in the end, I never wound up using it. Would be 0 stars if I could First, the Optometrist. I have never sat in a chair for so short a time in my life. I really am not sure he did a complete exam. He found only a very small change to my vision, despite problems I have been having. I have not yet filled the script, so lets see. Second, the selection. The place appears to be overflowing with glasses.(I prefer to wear glasses for work, and contacts for social time). However, when you actually go to the racks/cases, 3 of the 5 are reserved for people with specific insurance. If you don’t have that insurance, you cant buy the glasses – no matter what. I probably wouldn’t have gotten the groupon had I known that, since when I scoped the place out, most of the frames I liked were in those sections. They aren’t marked or anything, and no one said anything till I actually went to buy. Out of what was left, really nothing appealed to me. Third, the service. The woman who was«helping» me was condescending, rather pushy, and passed gas the whole time I was there. Enough said. Fourth, the prices. There are no affordable frames there, and the designer frames they have are overpriced. Expect to pay $ 100 more for designer frames at Sterling than for designer frames at LenseCrafters, etc. EDIT: Fifth: When I decided that they didnt have what I wanted, I called and asked to have my prescription emailed or faxed to me so I could take it elsewhere. Despite numerous assurances that they either would or had already sent it, I never received it, and had to go back in person. EDIT: Sixth: Even though I never bought glasses there, and even if I had, I was planning on using the group on – not my insurance – they marked my insurance as used, so I had to fight to get glasses somewhere else. When I chanced to mention the terrible experience I had to someone in the industry, he laughed and said he had heard nothing but bad things about this particular location, and couldn’t believe they were still in business.
