This restaurant has delicious food. I have tried the fried shrimp(jumbo and large,) the all you-can-eat fish fry, and the peel-and-eat shrimp. Although all have been stellar, I think the peel-and-eat shrimp has been my favorite. We requested to have them cold and they recommended which type would be best(Original Old Bay.) They were right. They were so flavorful. I have also had the cornbread and key lime pie and neither disappoints. The restaurant is being impacted by the construction on Lagrange Road. It is worth the hassle. Don’t miss out!

The food was terrible! We ordered the shrimp, po boy, lobster roll and the lobster Mac and cheese. Nothing tasted fresh and when we opened the food up the smell was so pungent we couldn’t get past the smell to eat it. We should have taken the food back but we were out of time. Now that I have a minute I can warn others not to waste their time cause it really stinks to read reviews and go to a place just to end up throwing away the food and walking away hungry and feeling a little nauseous at the thought of it.

I tried this place for the first time the other day but it has been around for about 10 months. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and the service is good. The menu is not large but when you do shrimp, crab and lobster for the most part what else do you need? Talking with one of the owners while I was waiting for my order it came up that they actually have a real chef on staff so things things like the soups and lobster rolls are the real deal and home made. I tried the jumbo shrimp, scallops and a lobster roll. All of them were very good. The lobster roll is one of the best I have ever had. I have eaten dozens of them up and down Maine and New England coast. This one ranks right up there. I will be back here for sure.

What a lovely surprise to find this place in the SW ‘burbs! It’s a modified fast food setting, can order to go at the counter, or eat in with very friendly and helpful table service. Seems like a family operation! No liquor, wine or beer, but the seafood is fresh, tasty, and delicious. Zesty jambalaya, rich shrimp bisque. Lobster rolls are lightly dressed and served on a toasted roll. I think it was a thick slice of Hawaiian bread, split, toasted, and generously filled with the lobster mixture. Quite yummy! Lobster Mac n cheez was a rich, creamy, cheesy delight. Portions are generous! We will definitely return!

Great food! On weekends the Original Island Shrimp House has lobster rolls and lobster mac and cheese. So yummy! So fresh. Portions are ample. Very casual. If you are eating in, sit down and they will bring you a menu, take your order and serve your meal. Staff is very nice and helpful. Can’t wait to go back and try the shrimp bisque.

I really enjoyed it! We went to the Palos location. I wanted to try the lobster roll. The portion size was perfect. The bun was delicious and totally made the sandwich. It’s the first one I’ve ever had so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was very good. We also had the jumbo shrimp. I was disappointed in the size compared to Just Shrimp or Dicola’s jumbo, but it was a simple batter fried perfectly. The restaurant was clean, service was very good. I’d read a review about the odor but it smelled like fresh seafood, and it wasn’t overbearing. Price point is a couple dollars more than Just Shrimp and comparable to Dicola’s. I would eat there again when I’m in the area or taking friends out because they have a bigger dining area than JS. Try it — they deserve a chance.

Patty and Dan always make us feel welcome when we walk in the door. This is the BEST lobster roll I’ve ever enjoyed. The lobster falls out of the generous and tasty roll. Don’t miss the homemade soups-clam chowder, jambalaya or shrimp bisque. If you ask about dessert you’ll end up ordering one. Enjoy!

Very good service, clean and refreshing atmosphere. The owner and staff came out to chat with me and the Lobster Roll was fresh and delicious. Plenty of parking. Hard to see first from the street, but once road construction is complete, that should eliminate that problem. I wish the owners well!

My husband and I had dinner here and it was fantastic. We started with a bowl of shrimp bisque. Very generous in size and quite delicious. We also had the fried calamari which was fresh and wonderful. And then there was the lemon garlic butter peel and eat shrimp served hot and dripping in all that tasty goodness. The key lime pie was the perfect topping to a fabulous meal. The service was great and the place is impeccably clean. We even spoke to the owner who has a true passion for this place. We will be back to try some other menu items and we are lucky it is not far from home for us. Can’t wait to try the lobster roll!

Wife and I ordered the lobster rolls, garlic shrimp and calamari and they were all fresh and excellent. Not quite a Connecticut lobster roll but still dang good. I’m looking forward to a return trip.

First off — the soups were fantastic. Very, very, tasty! We had Shrimp Bisque and Jambalaya. Both, again, were excellent and we ordered the corn bread to go with. The corn bread was sweeter than most, but that’s the way I like it so OK with me! I had the lobster roll and hubby had the cod. Both entrees were very good — some of the salads needed a little punching up, though. However, to their credit, they were home made and not out of a carton. Now, what would I change about this place? First — it’s an island shrimp house, so ditch the folk rock music and replace it with something more appropriate. Second, serve the food on a plate and the salads(potato, coleslaw, macaroni) on said plate with a scoop, not in a condiment to-go container. I kind of felt like everything was made to-go instead of dine-in. Third, I wouldn’t charge separately for everything. Extra condiments are 50 cents each. Our total for two soups, cornbread, and two dinners was $ 42 and change. I hope this place does well. We did enjoy our dinner and plan to come back to try the shrimp.

What drew me to this restaurant, was a sign on the wrong side of I-55 heading into the city. It was definitely worth the drive. The food was excellent, and if you’re a New England clam chowder fan make sure you get a bowl as it is one of the best I’ve ever had. I got the impression that this is a nice family owned/run restaurant, and I would encourage everyone to try this place out and support someplace local. They do have specials such as lobster mac & cheese that are only on certain days. Make sure you ask what specials are available that day.

I had a pound of smoked shrimp and a bowl of Jambalaya. The smoke shrimp was not very good, and it’s obvious they use oil to smoke it versus really using a smoker. The jambalaya tasted just like New Orleans, but it had 4 pieces of meat in it and about 3 shrimps. Not worth a visit again.

I have been searching for a good lobster roll for years in the SW suburbs. I hadn’t been able to find one done right until I visited The Original Island Shrimp House! I had read good things about this relatively new seafood spot, so my hubby and I packed up the little one and headed over there on a Sunday night. We must have timed it right, because the crowd wasn’t too crazy which is good news when you have a baby in tow. The space is new and very clean, they have large booths and some counter seating. I appreciated the booth being big enough to accommodate our baby carrier. We took a few minutes to review the menu and the nice young gentleman behind the counter offered us a few suggestions. I knew going in I was going to get the lobster roll($ 12.99, such a steal)! My husband asked if we should split a few things and we agreed that was the way to go. We ended up ordering the lobster roll, the peel and eat shrimp in lemon garlic butter, the smoked salmon, cornbread and a side of macaroni salad. The big reason I am going five stars here is the flavor of everything we tasted! I’ve been to most of the casual seafood places in the area and none offer the flavor and freshness of the lobster roll. The peel and eat shrimp were medium to large in size and were cooked perfectly with a generous amount of sauce to dip your peeled shrimp into. We very much enjoyed the smoked salmon which was peppered and had fantastic flavor. Our sides were solid as well, we especially liked the sweetness of the cornbread and the slight crispness it had on top. While we were eating the owner checked in with us to see how we liked everything. He was very nice and told us a little more about the sourcing of the seafood and his chef’s recipes for some of the soups and other dishes they offer.(I tried the soup, and it was very hearty… it could be a meal on its own!) It was obvious he takes the freshness and quality of the food they serve very seriously. Overall, I am so happy to have a great seafood option in the area at a good price point. We will definitely be going back and look forward to taking part in some of their upcoming special offerings(crabby Wednesday) now that we are on the email list!

Shrimp is not jumbo, it is rather a heavy gummy breading, with a medium sized 16 – 20 sized shrimp. I ordered a jumbo shrimp dinner, It came with 5 shrimp, left hungry and overpriced. There shrimp has too much horseradish in it. Kind of a foul taste. Cole slaw is watery. And why would you ever have to pay extra for shrimp sauce? Everything in this restaurant is served on paper with plastic dinnerware. This is really sad, we waited a long time for this restaurant to open, as we live right in this subdivision. Sorry we will not be going back. Concequently after speaking to our neighbors, they feel the same way.

Great lobster roll, stuffed with large pieces of lobster lightly dressed. Also had traditional old bay peel and eat shrimp with their homemade cocktail sauce, another great choice! Service has a couple kinks but I’m sure will work it out I will be back for more good seafood Much needed casual shrimp, seafood place for the area!

Saw this restaraunt on the«Hot and New» filter option on Unilocal and decided that it was my rightful duty as a local foodie to dive into this seafood and test the waters. Food options such as ordering by fractions of a pound, sandwiches and peal and eats were offered. My heart was set on the lobster roll; however, that roll is only available Friday through Sunday. Instead I ordered an oyster po’boy, while my family split a pound of shrimp. The food didn’t take long, being that it’s fast food and everything looked great(Frank’s Hot Sauce products are also offered to take to your table)! As I took my first bite, I was greeted by the crispy warm, sweet goodness of the fried oysters. The sauce that came on the sandwich was a lighter, Cajun sauce that went well with the freshness of the lettuce and tomatos. The French Roll was however a bit much to my liking and at times out-breaded the overall sandwich. After tearing some of it off, I was able to once again enjoy the sandwich(I recommend having it with the siracha sauce to give it a little more zing). The fries and coslaw that came with the meal weren’t anything stand-out. I tried a few pieces of shrimp which also had the same crunchy, sweet, bready exterior. The cocktail sauce was fine; however, the hot sauce we ordered tasted very mustardy as the shrimp may need a better teammate to go with. The service was very good and the owner came to chat a bit with us, leaking his plans of POSSIBLY expanding, adding a future hot sauce scale, similar to Buffalo Wild Wings, and serving beer and alcoholic beverages. He also informed us that the food comes in fresh from the state of Washington, which is then hand-made once they receive it. Lastly, the atmosphere was well thought out and comfortable. Each booth was large and very spacious. The only thing I would pick out from it was that the ambient/chill music didn’t seem really fitting with the Cajun style food and the rest of the restaraunt. Overall, The Original Island Shrimp House is a great place to snatch up some quality seafood and shows great promise in the future as well!

I am in trouble — big time! This place is waling distance form me. They only have been open 2 weeks maybe and I am addicted as I have been there four times already!. I am primarily addicted to their scallop po’ boy. This business is in it’s infancy and they are starting to experiment with daily specials to see what goes over well to see about future menu expansion. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly and very receptive to inquiries and questions. Every time I have been in has been just as good as the last in regards to the food and the service.
