Couple dishes are pretty authentic here: Dongpo rou, Shizi tou, Zhangcha ya, etc. Like it!

I came here for lunch with my colleagues as a large group and ordered a lot of different dishes. Noodles, eggplants, dumplings, prawns, beef and many more. None of them was any good and a lot of food were left unfinished.

Food is average. Dishes are not all true to the names. Wait staff were brief and serious. We were repeatedly asked«Are you done eating». We ordered: — Yacai chicken: came with bean sprouts and not the preserved specialty vegetable from Szechuan — Wonton soup with Chinese spinach — Mongolian beef: the most popular dish — Green onion lam: no difference from the Mongolian beef except the meat itself — Szechuan shrimp: deep fried with too much batter. — Salt & pepper fish fillet: so-so — Sweet & sour pork — Black mushroom and bean curd — Chicken noodle soup: it’s definitely not chicken soup

We came here at 630 pm on a Saturday night and got one of the few open tables. Nearly all Asian customers, an encouraging sign. Menu has many authentic as well as Americanized dishes. Service was quick albeit brusque and our food arrived within five minutes despite the place being crowded. The tofu with black mushrooms was good, with fresh soft tofu. The Mongolian beef and generals chicken were piping hot with nice chili and scallions but somewhat over salted. If they had put less salt I would have given at least one extra star.

We are stopped by this restaurant and surprisingly the food is really good, even better than Irvine! The free red bean soup is good.

We had a buffet style lunch. They served your typical Chinese American food. The quality of food was lacking. Maybe it was the selection of the food. But, the vegetables were greasy. The General Tsao’s chicken were small bits covered with lots of batter. I was really looking forward to eating here.

I do not recommend Su HOng at all, ever! Service is terrible, atmosphere is awful, loud, & claustrophobic, but worse than that is the food. Bland, bland bland. I have been eating here for over 20 years and it just keeps getting worse every time. I ate there last night and ended up throwing my food down the drain because it was so awful, tasted like glue, shrimp was rubbery, chicken salad had absolutely zero taste. Not enough soy sauce in the world to make the food taste good. I will be going to Chef Chu’s down the street from now on. Please, do not waste your money here.

For our company’s Christmas luncheon, my manager wanted me to order food from this restaurant instead of another Chinese restaurant that was close by. The day before the event, I had placed an order(over the phone) and gave the lady the company’s credit card. I told her that we need the food no later than 12 pm and she said that was fine. Fast forward to the day of the event, the delivery guy was late… around 10 minutes late. I panicked and called the restaurant and was told that the delivery guy has already left. A couple minutes later, he finally arrived. When we finally had a chance to consume the food(sizzling rice soup, wonton soup, combination appetizer sampler, honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef, Generals chicken, eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, fish fillet in wine sauce, Chinese chicken salad, shrimp chow mein and bbq pork fried rice), everything was overly salty. I could not taste the flavor of anything. The only thing I taste was salt! Fortunately, the honey walnut shrimp and the Chinese chicken salad was palatable. Since the food wasn’t that great, there were tons of leftovers. The next day, a few people(including myself), ate some leftovers for lunch. While I was chewing the food, I bit onto something hard. It looked like a piece of black/gray plastic(?). I posted a pic on Unilocal for you guys to see. I will definitely show my manager this pic and insist to not order from here again.

We come here almost every week. The quality of food is very good and consistent. Our most frequently ordered dishes are spicy fish pot and orange beef. The steamed pork bun is also our favorite.

My friends and I had a lunch here Saturday. The waiters are very unfriendly. The service is horrible. They don’t even have a bit smile for customers. After checkout, the waiter came back to ask more tips. We already gave him 8 bucks tip for only two people. I will never come back to this place.

Awful manager(owner) only cares about her money and not customers. I am disgusted by service that was given today.

Great food, pot stickers are delicious. Four stars for food, three for the impersonal service.

The Food was ok. The customer service was horrible. The manager was monitoring how much tip we were giving them as me and my 2 friends were signing our credit card receipts. I didn’t put any tip on it because I was going to put down some cash, however as soon as he saw me not write any tip on the receipt, he started telling me in a very disrespectful tone that I have to give them at least 15% tip by law… And didn’t even thank us for eating there. This is unacceptable customer experience, and even though the food was not bad, I will never come back to this place again.

I’ve come here on several occasions with a large party of family members, and every single time we have left pleased with our experience. This review will be rounding out around 7 dinners I’ve had at Su Hong over the past couple years, with my most recent experience taking the lead. Right off the bat, I have to say my family knows how to order THEGOODSTUFF. The dishes we order are quality Chinese dishes that I like, my mom likes, my grandma likes… you get the picture. The dishes are flavorful, and service is prompt and helpful. I can’t give away all of our family secrets, but some of our favorites you maybe haven’t yet tried are: Water Cooked Fish Slices with Chili, and Bamboo Lining with Green Melon, and Fragrant Slice Bean Curd and Meat(all roughly translated if you couldn’t tell heh). In my eyes, this place is a great time. Great food, great service, great vibes. If you know what suits your tastes/what to order, Su Hong takes care of the rest.

This place is over priced in general with average food quality experience. 1. Xiao long bao(their signature food) used to be better but it’s not juicy any more. There is no soup at all! You can call it no-soup pork dumpling — then what’s the point of getting it? 2. Dan dan noodle comes with fried noodle in some messy source. It’s priced at $ 9.9 for a really bad quality. 3. San huang chicken is actually good and big portion. Would recommend that. But it’s a bit pricy too(over $ 15). In general, not coming back. There are better Chinese food options with more reasonable price in Mountain View or Los Altos.

My roommates and I came here for graduation dinner and we had an awful experience. We ordered a series of dishes and was told by the waiter that we didn’t have enough food. We then ordered a bunch more and realized that as the busboys were bringing it out that we had too much. We asked to see if we could take one dish off and was told that it was too late, which was fine… However after we paid and were ready to go, we were stopped by the manager who told us they FORGOT to charge us tip(even though the tip was clearly written on our receipt) and could we please pay another $ 25 in cash. Seriously?! After all the awful service, the food was pretty mediocre. No wonder this place was near empty on a Saturday evening where every other restaurant couldn’t take a reservation for a party as large as ours.

The 1-star reviews here just need counter-balancing. This is a great place. Don’t go here for the Pu Pu Platter or the Mongolian Beef or the Lemon Chicken. Yes, they’re on the menu, but in 2005 this place had a «secret chinese menu» and popular opinion got that translated and the owners embrace getting the«secret chinese» in english. There’s a specials board: eat from that. The dumplings are as good as anywhere. Lionhead meatballs. Dong Bo Pork. greens with garlic. Hand Shaved Noodles. This place is not dirty or rude, but it is authentically chinese, just like a mid-range place in shanghai. It’s not Chef Chu — it’s much more authentic. It’s got racks of chinese language newspapers right out front and that brusk no-nonsense

Would only come here for the pot stickers and schezuan chicken. The first time I visited I had the chow fun — didn’t like it. The next time I tried Mongolian beef– also not that good. After that I’m not really interested in trying any of the other(expensive) items.

I’m very satisfied with the food here. They offer southern Chinese style food. Personally I’m from Shanghai and their food is as good as any southern food I’ve had in China. I recommend the dongpo pork.

Su Hong has a pretty difficult situation, as far as Chinese restaurants go, since it’s located in a neighborhood with a significant but not overwhelming Chinese population. As a result, Su Hong needs to attempt to please both Chinese and non-Chinese clientele with its food and service. This difficult situation is reflected(I think) in the mixed reviews on Unilocal. As a Chinese-American local, I think Su Hong is pretty great, regardless of your familiarity with Chinese cuisine. I’ve come with friends from school, where we typically order less authentic, «Chinese-American» comfort food, such as chow mein, fried rice, potstickers, kung pao chicken, etc. I’ve also come with my family, where we order the more authentic stuff. Here’s some of our favorites: — Shanghai Fried Vegetable Rice: Comes sizzling in a stone pot, this is not your regular fried rice! Shanghai fried rice features bok choi and salted pork and is crispy, savory, and delicious! — Wuxi Spareribs: Well-marinated, tender, and a good balance of sweet and savory. — Chongqing Boiled Fish: This is a boiled fish dish where the fish is cooked in a spicy broth alongside a generous serving of hot peppers. Your tongue will explode with flavor then go tingly and numb after a few bites. It’s awesome. This place serves up great Chinese food that’s on the heavier side in terms of flavor, so you’ll want to drink a lot of tea/water with your meal. Service is friendly and efficient, and the place is clean and comfortable(not always the case with Chinese restaurants). Highly recommended if you’re looking for a Chinese food fix in Palo Alto!
