The Best of the Best Tours

Not worth the money. The sound was not good and the tour only last a little over an hour. Hard to see as Ken drove by very quickly.

Generally informative but tour guide lacked expertise to be giving the tour of a windmill farm.

Don’t waste your money on the «Combo» Tour (Rich & Famous/​Windmills). We made the mistake of sitting on the left side of the jeep. The bench seat is sideways so most of the homes that were pointed out were at our back. You can’t really turn around or stand up so you resign yourself to just listening to the rhetoric. I was charged a second full fee for the windmill tour but never came close to the turbines. The tour guide just parked for about 10 minutes and gave us a few facts. We never actually got a windmill tour. I was originally told it was a 3 hour «Combo» tour when it was only 2 hours. Based on the other reviews, I wish I had just taken Ken’s windmill tour. I thought that was what I paid for. Very disappointed in the customer service also. I don’t usually write reviews but I feel I was taken for a ride and it wasn’t the one I paid for.

We purchased the Rich and Famous city Tour. Horrible experience. Cramed 10 of us in mini van and drove around pointing out homes you could not see out of the van. Many times Richard would say «that house over there…» And those of us from second row back had no clue what home and we would be on to the next home that only a few could see. This tour is not worth the money or time.

I highly recommend Ken Huskey’s windmill tour. He takes you up close to the wind farms and explains in depth the economic and environmental impact of the farms, as well as showing you the variety of windmills and equipment, discusses their feasibility, other energy projects and the nature of the surrounding desert. There doesn’t seem to be a question he can’t answer. He makes education fun!

Three of us took Ken’s Windmill Tour today. It was fascinating! I was expecting a very cookie-​cutter and somewhat dull (how exciting can windmills be??) tour, but Ken’s expertise and wit made for a great tour. I’ve already texted a friend to tell her she should take the tour and I have been trying to rehash the tour to my husband who wasn’t able to attend.
We booked this tour on a whim and the ticketing process was very easy. I highly recommend it!

Our Girl Scout troop is working on the Breathe Journey so we called and got an amazing Girl Scout rate for our scouts of $ 10 (10 – 13 year olds) each with a party of at least 10. Adult prices are higher of course. We had no idea what to expect and were very happy to have had the opportunity to meet Ken and have him as our tour guide. He is an amazing man and is so full of knowledge. He gave our girls ample opportunity to ask questions, told them all about the different types of windmills, talked about their impact, and even told them about careers in the industry!
We definitely recommend this tour for EVERY troop that is going through the Breathe journey. You won’t find a better expert than Ken, anywhere!

Dave gave us a good ride and was very informative of the area and landscape. We had a great time. I recommend this to anyone new to the area looking for a fun time.

Tom was our tour guide on the windmill tour and I must say this was the best tour I can remember in a long time.
Tom is just a really cool guy, a civil engineer, and someone who has worked on windmill power for 30+ years in Palm Springs. He was just a walking encyclopedia of information about everything from technical to where Marilyn Monroe was discovered, to the story of Sonny Bono’s now defunct restaurant/​racquet club (sad, what a great guy Sonny was — someone should revive that place). Tom really loves what he does and it shows!
My six year old son even asked questions and he would explain things to him in the most polite and patient way — I was impressed!
He was more than happy to talk and show us as much as we wanted. At one point we were heading back and he said we could see the largest windmills in Palm Springs if we didn’t mind and he said «I don’t mind spending extra time if you don’t»
We are still talking about this tour, it was fascinating and funny too. On the way back, he pointed out the nude resort and explained why there is a bridge with no windows across Palm Canyon drive — who would’ve figured?!
He then pointed out the gay friendly resorts which created an awkward silence on the bus so I said «well it is nice that Palm Springs is so welcoming to all» and Tom replied with «exactly, they don’t bother anyone!!»
At one point he said «I will shut off the tour bus so you can hear this new wind speed sensor, by the windmills; if the truck doesn’t start we’ll just go out and get sandwiches» or how his house is wind powered and when there is no wind, he has no electricity!
It was just so cool to have a tour guide who was real and genuine and didn’t mind saying his thoughts. It was refreshing!
Tom: Make sure you put some of those modded woody beach cruiser bikes out front your shop Tom, people will buy those. you have a winner therel!

We took a tour of the windmills. Our tour guide, Tom, was very knowledgable. We really enjoyed it. $ 35 per person (cash). The tour started at the visitors center at the edge of town and lasted about 2 hours. They only run the tour if they can get at least 6 people to sign up.

We totally enjoyed our tour. It was great to hear the stories of old Hollywood and how Palm Springs came to be, to quote our very knowledgeable tour guide, «Palm Springs was build for the stars by the stars.»
We also scheduled last minute and they were able to accommodate us. Most of the other tour companies only had 9AM tours available.

Best of the Best? Sadly, I beg to differ. After reading one Unilocaler’s review, I wish I’d called to confirm if the shuttle’s a/​c was functioning. It was so still and uncomfortable in that bus that I found it difficult to stay focused on what our guide was even saying; instead, like waiting for a jackpot to hit, I anxiously anticipated the intermittent flow of air from the fan above (which served — I think a row or 2 of – the front portion of the bus); disappointingly, the flow of air didn’t arrive often enough. On a positive note, we were on the first tour of the morning (and a bottle of cold water was provided); imagine the discomfort during later tours!
Another positive: our guide was very pleasant. He concerned us, however, with his constantly looking away from the road, to direct his information to (and make eye contact with) the passengers. I wanted to say, «…we fully understand you not looking at us while talking; PLEASE keep your eyes on the road.»
Portions of the windmill tour were informative and interesting; however, we expected more of a behind-​the-​scenes look, to go where others were not permitted (vs. staying on roads that anyone can travel). Certainly, my opinion is swayed by my discomfort during the trip. Despite the uncomfortable conditions, we all felt that the tour’s cost did not justify the information/​entertainment received.

We were looking for a tour on short notice… we came across Best of the Best and were not disappointed. It was a wonderful tour and Cyndie, the guide, was fun and knew her stuff. It was not a hot day when we went so the open jeep was just fine and provided a better, view especially for taking photos. She took us down small streets that Im sure a large bus wouldn’t be able to access. Very happy with the tour – we recommend it!

My grandparents were visiting from Michigan and my grandma was interested in taking a celebrity home tour. A friend recommended Best of the Best, so we gave it a whirl!
First, the good:
–The route the tour took was very interesting and included some great aspects of Palm Springs. I have lived here over 5 years and wish I had taken tour earlier– very informative and covers many many homes!
–The tour guide did seem to know her stuff, she was constantly talking and telling us stories over the 1 ½ hour tour.
Now the bad:
–Tour guide arrived almost 30 minutes late for the tour.
–The website listed the price as $ 25 per person, but we were actually charged $ 30. No biggie, but website should be updated.
–Sometimes, the guide would say things that did not make sense, like that Michael Jackson is starring in a new movie. We’re not sure if she meant someone else, but she never corrected herself.
–Throughout the tour, we were told that afterwards, we’d all receive a $ 10 credit to the casino (the tour originates at the spa resort casino’s hotel lobby), but when we finished, the guide was out of credit slips. Again, no biggie, but don’t advertise something if you can’t deliver.
And the ugly:
–The van we rode in was super hot! She told us the open air jeeps they normally used were getting smogged that day, so we’d be in a van with inoperative a/​c. She told us before we even got in the van that it was very hot in there, but that it was starting to cool off since it was getting later in the day (we took the 4pm tour). It never cooled off! We were surprised by just how hot it was! We were in the back of this passenger van with windows that would not open, desperately fanning ourselves with tour pamphlets. In my opinion, if they did not have a proper vehicle, they should not have been running the tour.
Since I was not completely satisfied, I did email company before I wrote this unflattering review. I was not asking for anything, just an acknowledgement, but have not received a response in over a week.

We had a great windmill tour!
Very affordable and the guy was an amazing, knowledgeable and funny motor-​mouth. He put stuff together in a way that I had never understood — absolutely fascinating.
Even if you don’t care about windmills, you will after the two hour tour.
