I stayed at the castle by the sea from July 25 — August 2, 2013. reserved the carriage house portion of the residence and it was fantastic. From the moment I arrived Sheri made me feel like I was home. She ensured I had everything that i needed and was a wealth of information for local happenings. Set up a boat excursion to see the flowing lava into the sea, shared her vast knowledge of the area, and just was a pleasure to interact with on a day to day basis. I would thouroughly recommend making this your destination point on the Big Island! Looking forward to the return trip…

I have been fortunate to winter on Hawaii’s Big Island this season. I started out staying rather north at the rim of Waipio Valley. I discovered Castle in Hawaii on a B & B site and knew I had to check it out ASAP. The castle is a slice of seaside paradise, about 45 minutes outside Hilo and well worth the drive. I do my best to find gems on the island and find experiences that go way beyond touristy Waikiki. Castle in Hawaii falls nicely into both categories. Yes I am already a proud member of their target demographic: I have been known to throw a «champagne pirate soirée» or two while sailing on Lake Michigan. It was hard to believe there could be a castle on the Big Island that I did not yet know about. I had an enthusiastic email exchange and phone conversation with Sheri S. of the castle duo. The castle is done in extensive gorgeous detail with a few pleasant surprises when guests arrive in their suites. A moat and drawbridge! A stunning lanai to watch regal sunrises, relax, do Yoga and share adventures stories over a tasty beverage! We have even seen breaching whales while chillaxing with friends in the hot tub! The ocean is just across a park and you can certainly enjoy the soothing sound of the surf as you fall asleep. I’ve taken in neighborhood walks, the black sand beach, colorful local farmer’s markets and many delicious meals. Sheri and John treat guests like Ali’i(royalty) indeed. They have wonderful stories of living in Hawaii for 10 years and are happy to share their Aloha. It has been so refreshing to find a place like this to call home for 6 weeks of my Pacific Paradise adventure. Yes, relaying stories such as these has inspired several of my pirate colleagues to fly over to experience the Castle in Hawaii and the Big Island for themselves. It has been an exceptional experience to see special guests and share new stories. We even caught our first ono on the Pacific and brought it to the castle to share and enjoy over a moonlit night on the lanai! Check it out and feel free to pack a costume! Some of my best photos are from the castle visits. Cheers & aloha.
