The falafel sandwiches are still great. The cilantro hummus I took home was pretty darn bland.

First off, let me say I met this family the same way I’ve met all the Food Truck or «Street Vendors» that I know; at the Monterey Street Food Festival back in May( ). They had a ridiculous line, were extremely busy, and yet I was still treated like I was the first and only customer they might have all day. I ordered a lamb shwarma(5 stars all by itself) and some curly fries(because who says no to curly fries?) and the meal was killer. I went to this event on a mission; to attain as much contact info from as many vendors as possible, and I’m really glad I met this guy. I’m the leasing agent for a big apartment community here in Monterey, and every other week or so we have a Food Truck or caterer hang out by the leasing office to provide food for our residents. The only reason this information is important is that the other day I had a vendor cancel on me with 2 days notice prior to a «Food Truck Friday» event(ahh!!) and Mr. Falafel came through in the clutch. All of our residents were excited to see him again and a great time was had by all. They’re fairly priced, provide cuisine that’s more difficult to find in Monterey than you’d think, and are some of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met. I’d highly recommend them if you’re having an event and you don’t feel like cooking, so long as you have the room necessary(10’x10’) for his tent he cooks and serves out of. Also: If you find yourself passing by the Farmer’s Market on Sundays in Marina(Grocery outlet parking lot), I suggest you stop by and order some food. You will not be disappointed. I hope to know and work with these folks for a long time to come.

BESTFALAFELSANDWICH I HAVEEVERHAD. I discovered Mr. Falafel at the Salinas Valley Food and Wine Festival and it was incredible. I had the cilantro hummus on mine although he has other flavors also. After I ate it and walked around for awhile I had to go back and tell him how tasty it was(I also got a Baklava at that time too. Mmmmmm! Yummy!) and does he have a regular restaurant. It sounds like he does not, that he pops up at Farmer’s Market etc but I am not sure. But I am going to find out!

Best chicken shawarma I’ve ever had! So fresh and delicious! I’ve never had falafel anywhere else, but Mr. Falafel’s are scrumptious! Anytime we’re in the area and Mr. Falafel is set up, I race over to get the yummiest chicken sawarma!

Mr. Falafel was kind of a let down. I would expect more from them. The gyro was virtually all lettuce so I felt like I got ripped of. Won’t be going back.

Tried Mr. Falafel out for the first time today at the PG Good Old Times deal in downtown PG. I had the chicken shawarma sandwich, and it was awesome. The chicken was moist, the veggies fresh, and it had the perfect spice. I’m not sure what kind of bread they use, but it was MUCH better than any regular pita I’ve ever had. On top of all this, at $ 6, it had to be the best deal of the day. That sandwich was filling! Next time around it will be hard to try anything else, but I will definitely be eating here again.

Hot out of the fryer, these falafels were the best I’d ever had. So much so that I promptly proclaimed«These are the best falafel I’ve ever had» and purchased 6 for $ 2, a generous accommodation to my plea that I really have no need for 10 for $ 3 and that I don’t have a freezer to freeze the leftovers right now(residing in a hotel room). The outer shell is thin and crispy, yielding to a soft, fluffy inside with bits of crunchy chickpea. They are well seasoned and every so slightly spicy. Fresh is best because as they cool, they become more dense.

I’ve recently become enamored with the food offerings at the PG Farmers Market. Babaloo serves up some great Cuban food and just a few booths up, Mr. Falafel serves up some mighty tasty Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fare. Of course I’m most fond of the titular falafel – the falafel balls(10 for $ 3 or 15 for $ 4) are so flavorful, with a subtle spicy kick. They’re the perfect snack to share while wandering around farmers market. My only complaint – they get cold too quickly, but usually I’m gobbling these up so fast it doesn’t matter. I’ve yet to take home any of their spreads, like flavored hummuses, but I have sampled some and they’re mighty tasty too.(And is hummuses that even a word? Huh, well it is now!) Perhaps one day I’ll snag some of these, or try them in one of Mr. Falafel’s wrap sandwiches.

Delicious Falafels! Smaller than the ones I’m used to seeing but they pack a nice punch of serious flavor. Great healthy snack. At the Pacific Grove Farmer’s Market they offer Falafels, hummus, pita bread and more. We got a baggie of 10 Falafel for $ 3. Great deal and can’t wait to go back next Monday for more!
