Grand Avenue Liquors & Deli

Went to get sandwiches because of all the great reviews, but the deli counter was totally empty. Not a stitch of food in it-​So we were out of luck. Bummer!

A terrible business. My family bought a defective product and would not get a replacement or refund (for a bottle of tequila that had a broken spout).
I truly could not believe how my father was treated for what should have been business as usual. The clerk threatened him with violence (my father being a 60 year old man) for attempting to come get me while holding another bottle of tequila (as I sat in the car on the side of the street).
But most importantly, the owner (Chris) is a rude moron. He was as hostile as his employee over the phone and hung up on me after failing to get me to pay for the defective product. He was not concerned with my family’s experience in his store, nor his behavior with me. I am appalled.
Please do not give this business your hard earned money. They do not deserve it. We certainly never will again.

Clean, good customer service, fresh sandwiches and fair prices. No negatives here. My wife and I shared the BBQ Chicken and Tuna sandwiches. Both were great. Highly recommended shop.

Great staff made me laugh. Good sandwiches and the best tomatoes soup I ever had. Don’t be afraid of the sandwiches. They are filled with yummy fresh ingredients and unique. Not typical deli fare. Though they can make anything you want.

Hands down the best tuna melt I’ve ever had! The guy who runs the deli is so nice, too! What a hidden gem in Monterey. SUPER glad we stopped in here instead of some large chain tourist spot.

I’ve been going to a pretty «good» deli in PG for years, but my first impression is that this one is much better. In fact, I just ate one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in ages: chicken breast on ciabatta with tomatoes and fresh basil, drizzled with basalmic and olive oil. The bread was fresh, the chicken moist and tender, and the combination of flavors delightful. I will definitely be back soon.

Called in and asked the fella behind the counter if they had ginger beer for Moscow mules and he said they did!
Went in and he gladly showed us where it was and said to give him a call after we made the Moscow miles because he had never tried one and wanted to know. Well sir they’re fantastic. Just like your service and your store. The variety of liquor here is awesome. We love PG and will definitely shop here for our drink needs!

It’s so nice to find a local business that I have never noticed before, and walk out a happy customer. Places to grab a fast «to go» lunch in PG are very limited and I prefer not to eat at McDonald’s or Carls Jr. I prefer grabbing something portable, so I can park by the beach and enjoy the luxury of living on the Peninsula. I detoured from Fountain Avenue (my usual shortcut to the ocean) and discovered this place. Why have I never noticed it before? Apparently there is a new person running the deli, within the last two months. I ordered the hot tritip sandwich, and it was delicious! It was medium, pink, just the way I like it. The grilled red peppers, garlic aioli and Havarti cheese was nice. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu items, and perhaps a salad or two. Average lunch price is $ 8.00, served with a pleasant smile and warm thank you. I perused the liquor store, which seems to have a nice selection. I’ll browse around more, later on. We’re more beer drinkers, than wine, but once in a while we like to indulge in some adult grape juice. Great experience. Definitely will return.

Went there last night with a friend because I heard they had live entertainment. Belly Dancing! Super cool. This is the first time I have ever drank inside of a liquor store. I bought a bottle of local Pinot Noir (Hahn). It was about $ 12. We sat at a table and had a gyros plate and some kind of triangular pastry stuffed with chicken, spinach, and cheese. The music and dancers were very fun and they encouraged women in the audience to join in. What a great time!

I was curious about the new Mediterranean deli — we tried the Lebanese garlic chicken and the shawerma — excellent sandwiches! The shawerma spices were right own … The owner was nice and friendly.

Went in with another Groupon for the deli this time. Great made-​to-​order sandwiches with fresh ingredients along with a decent selection of non-​alcoholic bevs to wash them down. Get there early, the deli closes about 3pm… even on weekends.

There is unbelievably great service and wonderful products! The yummy high quality deli food is obviously made with love. My neverending hunt for the obscure hoppy beer brand that I love is now over. They carry it and it’s always fresh. I live in Seaside, and it’s totally worth the drive. I recommend taking a quality moment to check out their stock. Somebody really did their homework.

Found this place via Groupon and I’m glad we did!
This is on of those places that made me wish I lived in Monterey so that I can make it my go-​to lunch/​wine stop.
Those people know how to make a sandwich! A great selection of bread, cheese, meats, and toppings. Made in a decent amount of time and fairly priced at under $ 7 a sandwich.
Their wine selection is beyond impressive. Wines from all over the world, but several Monterey County wines featured — and at their prices I’d say Safeway and Lucky’s have some fair competition. I got a nice bottle of Monterey Cab for $ 11. Several Italian and Spanish wines for under $ 20, and for the bargain hunters — a couple of $ 5-​$ 10 bottles (some of which I can testify to being good.)
Only thing that would have made it better is a larger fine foods selection — crackers, goat cheese, olives, etc. Perfect picnic accoutrements.
It’s a quick walk from Lover’s Point and the coast — I’d reccomend finding it!

Another great find from Groupon!
I had purchased two groupons, one for my daughter and one for myself. We stopped in to get sandwiches, chips and drinks to take to the beach. The sandwiches were fantastic!
1. Pulled Pork Sandwich on soft french roll.
2. Roast Beef with Swiss on sourdough roll
3. Tuna with avocado on marbled rye.
4. Ham and bacon on soft french roll.
Comes with chips (any bag you want and they’re the bigger bags) and a drink (which was any drink except the energy drinks)
It was a great deal!
However, aside from the great lunch we had — my experience with the merchant was was really counted the most.
So we get there and I’m having technical difficulties with one of the groupons, it was a mess. The manager there (names Will) knew that we were taking our lunches to the beach and he tells me to go ahead and get to the beach while the sun was still up — he would be there until 9pm and we could take care of it later. So, he gives me the customer service number to Groupon. We head out to the beach before it got to late and I try calling Groupon but, they’re on Central Time and were closed already.
We enjoy our lunch — and enjoy the beach — and we head back into town. I stop by to talk to Will and let him know that I wasn’t able to get ahead of customer service. I told him that if he wanted me to, I would just pay for the sandwiches and/​or if he was open to it, would he be willing to wait until the next day and I could contact them in the morning. He said that was fine! (Who does that in this day and age?)
First thing in the morning, I contact Groupon, get the matter taken care of — and later that afternoon, stopped by – the manager Will was there — paid for our lunches with our Groupon — and it was great. An experience that could have been a real drag — turned out great and all because of the way we were treated.
We all agreed that their sandwiches were excellent (in fact, my daughter and I have a different favorite sandwich place in PG — but we are now converts to Grand Avenue Deli.)
We will always do business with this merchant —
because it’s not just about the food —
it’s about Customer Service –
and this store, the owners and management are absolutely Top Notch!
I will forever remember the service I received and will stay loyal!

Alright so I’m cheating a bit on this review. But I can’t help but give five stars for the 50% off wine, spirits or beer groupon this place is running right now. Am definitely buying it and can’t wait to stock up for the holidays!
