They have a great selection of beer. One of the best I’ve seen around town. I had the burg Bella and it was amazing. The burger had Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and an Aoli sauce on it. And the fries were fire. So good. Definitely worth the stop.

This was such a pleasant surprise, I can’t even tell you. I do not like burgers, and pub food, well, it’s just pub food. But this place was a gem. My son had the Smokehouse burger, my husband had the Spicy avocado burger, and I had the fish and chips. We also ordered chicken wings with the medium sauce, which were some of the best tasting wings I have had in years. They were not over sauced and cooked perfectly. The blue cheese was excellent and the celery was amazingly crisp. Next, let me say that the fish and chips were astounding, malt vinegar included. The tartar was delicious, the fries very flavorful. Now lets talk burgers. My family loves them and eats them any chance they get. I on the other hand can’t stand burgers out. I would rather make them at home and the way I like them. My husband and son ordered them medium rare like always and they were cooked to perfection, bonus number one. But then as I looked at how yummy they looked and at how much they were enjoying them, I just had to take a bite of my husbands(my son had wolfed his down to quick for me to scam a nibble). It is a good thing her was close to finishing the darn thing, because I think I would have eaten the entire burger. Yeah, it was that good. Now we live in the Wichita area, but are in the Overland Park area of Kansas often, and I told my husband that we will come back here and I am definitely ordering a burger. Yup, me. By the way, I had a side salad and it was marvelous. It was just the right size and had diced bacon, tomato, onions, and shred cheese along with little mini croutons made from the beautiful buns they use for their burgers and sandwiches. This is an A+ in our book, and that says a lot.(also to note, that the music was not too loud, and it was busy but not over crowded for lunch on a Friday afternoon) The servers were all so nice and attentive. Kudos for excellent customer service! The iced tea was awesome too. We don’t drink alcohol much but they did have a great selection of beers and such. Enjoy!

I loved this place. Excellent atmosphere. PB&E was killer, as were the Goat Cheese Balls. Sweet Potato Fries and Tater Tots great too. Server and hostess were great as well.

We walked in around 8:30 and it was evident a large group was finishing up at their room for large groups. It said seat yourself, so we did in the decently large room with 2 tables of people on the patio and only 2 tables of people on the inside. We saw 4 waitresses plus the bartender all hanging around he bar talking to each other and one customer person. We waited 11 minutes before anyone spoke to us! I was about ready to walk out when one waitress saw us grabbed menus, but stooped to check on the other 2 indoor tables BEFORE coming to greet us. My husband had the pretzel app(yum) with cheese dip(served middle warm). I had had goat cheese balls with ranch which were AMAZING. I had the fried egg, Peanut butter and Sriracha burger. The egg yolk was hard as a rock which was disappointing. Other than that my burger was great. My husband had a BBQ burger with a disgusting onion ring on top that was cold and so heavily covered with a thick, soft, oil filled breading that we almost couldn’t determine what it was. He removed the onion ring and stated it was a great burger. We both choose the Cajun fries as sides which had a hint of spice. They were good. Service — 2 stars Food — 4 for bar food with points for a creative menu for a bar

This place was such a bummer in my book. Stopped by here mid-last week because my man wanted to sip on a rare released beer they had on tap. I’m always game to try new food, so figured this was worth a go on our hunt for the best burger in KC. We split the Gotye — patty with goat cheese, tomato, arugula, and a basalmic reduction. It was super meh. The burger was cooked okay(medium rare like requested), but seemed like a frozen patty versus a house-made burger. It might have been the way they shape the burgers, if they use a mold, but something just seemed off to me about it. The cheese was partially melted and not well distributed on top. The rest of the toppings were fine, but the bun… Soggy burger buns happen. If burgers are juicy, I get that this is totally inevitable after a time, but the bun had basically disappeared already by the time it’d made its way to the table. Such a bummer as that texture is terrible, and attempting to gracefully eat a burger with a partial bun is no fun either. It seemed more like grease or fat than a great«juicy» burger, too. We sat outside, which was fine. It wasn’t busy, and seemed like a nicer atmosphere than the inside. If you’re looking for a sports bar, this will fit the bill. On a nice day, I didn’t want to spend any additional time inside if I didn’t have to– especially because it seemed very dim to me. While the patio makes due, I wouldn’t recommend Burg for its outdoor seating by any means. It’s just an odd spot next to the parking lot in the strip mall. There are better places to dine outside if that’s your goal. Our waitress seemed too cool for school. Our beers took a long time to arrive and a busboy ended up bringing out most of our food/water refills while we were there. Despite only ordering one entrée, she didn’t manage to enter the correct side. We ended up with both sweet potato fries and the cajun tots due to this. The fries were what I’d expect. The cajun tots I thought would be better based on other reviews. They’re basically plain tots with a dry rub/spice sprinkled on them… and not that spicy. I’m certainly glad we didn’t pay to try both. If you’re nearby and you want somewhere that has basic bar fare with sports on, by all means this is your joint. They also appear to have opened a separate room for private events, which could be fun for a guys night or sports party(fantasy football draft anyone?). I can’t see why I’d be back again.

Wow, is about all I can say about this place, wow. It makes me wish I lived anywhere near this place, located in what used to be a very seedy«The Peanut», is now clean and bright and full of JOY. Just having looked at their menu, I could tell it was going to be a little different bar experience, though once we sat down and the place started filling up, I was kinda wondering, where did all these people come from, they definitely weren’t your typical north OP crowd. So the food, I must say was very tasty, we had goat cheese balls, delicious, giant, and I mean GIANT fried chicken sandwich with wing sauce on it that was pretty darn good, fairly tastless onion rings, tator tots to die for, some interesting beers that I’ve not seen around town, and one very frazzled waitress who it seems was responsible for the entire back room, which had 3 people when we got there, and then 25 when we left. I would say I’ll definitely be back, but this place is really out of my comfort zone for driving home after having a drink. the happy hour menu looks pretty fab, and if you’re looking for a place to watch the game, there are literally TVs on every wall. overall the prices weren’t too bad, almost everything on the menu is under 10 bucks, which I like, and everything comes with sides, instead of for an extra price. there aren’t any entre’s on the menu, just apps, sandwiches and salads, which means they’re not trying to be everything to everyone. I wish I could say I’d be back to try again, maybe even soon, but for now I’ll just say, if you live near here, then go because it’s pretty good stuff.

We love this place and always have a great experience there. My favorite is the PB&E…a bacon cheeseburger with peanut butter, fried egg, and sriracha. It sounds odd, but it’s fantastic! The fries are good, but I usually get the tots or Cajun tots. The host cheese balls are a great appetizer. Great selection of beer on tap.

Wow! That’s all I’m gonna say. The service was amazing we had the bartender taking our order and she was like a super ninja. Everything was amazing. Had one the best Bloody Mary’s it was deff a pre meal before the actual meal. Burgers are by far one of the best I’ve had in a long time. They cook it how you want it. Nothing better than that. Great prices and great atmosphere!

Delicious! Had the Diablo burger, it was awesome. The Buffalo sauce was a little vinegary but still great. It’s not often I can walk away from somehwere and be fully for the majority of the rest of the day. This did it well.

Good food! Amazing tots and sweet potato fries But very bad service on a Friday evening ! We ordered for water as soon as we walked In and our server never got it to us. My friend had Togo to the bar counter and ask the bartender for water. So much hype but the service was bad. I couldn’t give it a better rating Coz whatever stats it got was for the food. We ordered drinks, server took it to the wrong table. My friend even mentioned that the women’s bathroom stalls didn’t have locks. Kind of disappointing that a place as good as this has such horrible service. We had to wait for 10 mins for drinks and didn’t get water !! Hope someone does something about this. Sad part is the whole time we sat there our server never brought us the water which we specifically asked for 3 times !!

Nice little hidden gem in a strip mall! Great selection of burgers and fries. Great flavor combos! I had the cajun/spicey turkey burger with Cajon fries. It was tasty(and the condiments were fresh!) We also had pretzel bites, which were fresh, warm and yum! The wait staff was friendly and gave us great input to make a good selection. Will be back!

We enjoyed spending date night here. Started with the goat cheese balls which were creamy and deep fried(anything deep fried is delicious). They were very good. I got the Spider and it was tasty, though I would have preferred it without the sauce. We had drinks at a good price and liked the modern décor. I would definitely add this place to our list of regulars.

Burg & Barrel is a suburban bar and grill that has decent food and a solid trivia night. If you like quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches, and other protein-between-bread dishes, boy is this the restaurant for you. The tatter tots upgrade that I forked over $ 1 for reminded me of Sonic’s glory days. The Mean Bean burger itself was fine. The pepperjack cheese and chipotle cilantro mayo were nice touches. I wouldn’t recommend the queso or the fried pickles. Stick to the burgers with fried potato side dishes. The rest of the review is dedicated to the bizarre seating situation on trivia nights. Too long didn’t read — the host refused to seat my group in a largely empty restaurant. Trivia started at 8PM on Wednesday. At 6:40PM, the host, without any emotion, turned and looked at the mostly empty restaurant. «You can wait at the bar,» he said. A woman behind me chirped, «Hey, you’re behind me too.» A six topper opened up minutes after this interaction. The woman claimed the table, and then sat at it by herself for more than an hour. I looked behind the host and quickly counted dozens of empty seats. But all the six toppers were busy, so I guess he had orders to not seat larger groups until they opened up? Unfortunately, with the exception of one full table, the six toppers all had two or three patrons each. I checked in every thirty minutes, but the host told me to continue waiting. Ironically, many four toppers had enough room for six because of booth seating. So groups of six that came much later than us were seated easily. I watched three of groups of six be seated just fine. It was just our group, stuck in this weird purgatory. Did I look at the host the wrong way, or say something pretentious? I don’t think I did. If I did, I want to know what I did so I don’t do it again. Right before trivia, more than an hour later, I asked a manger, not the host, if we would be seated soon. He looked very confused. He talked to the host, and came back apologizing about the wait. We were seated at a six topper that had cleared of its two people. I looked over at the woman who was in front of me in line — she was still alone. At this time, the restaurant was filling up, but still not full. Burg & Barrel team, if you’re reading this, there are quick fixes that could improve the customer seating experience! Only seat groups with half or more of their party there. When seating parties of three or fewer, seat them at 4 toppers, not at larger tables! Or, push two tables together. Or cram me at a table with booth seating. There are many options other than the bizarre«wait at the bar for an hour and twenty minutes with no update,» that I’m happy to brainstorm. The situation reminded me of the All Quiet on the Western Front situation I describe all the time. If you’ve never read the book or any of my other Unilocal reviews, in an early chapter, the German cook refuses to give his soldiers more food, even though half the men are dead and there’s enough food. He exercises his power in a way that seems irrational, but empowers him. I’ll probably be back because the trivia was fun. Our team nabbed 8th place before running off to catch a late showing of Star Wars.

Went solo on a busy Friday night, and I was asked if I wouldn’t mind sharing a hi-top table in the bar with another couple — which was a little strange, but whatever. They were pretty unfriendly, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant :-) Burger was delicious, a juicy medium-rare, but the fries weren’t up to the same awesomeness standard — a bit soggy. Next time I’ll get the tots. Huge beer selection. I love the big display screens over the bar that show what’s been recently tapped & what’s close to running dry. Service wasn’t the quickest(they were pretty slammed,) but was friendly enough.

This place is amazing! It’s a Saturday night and busy as can be, but the staff is on point. We got say at the bar right away and the bartenders were great from the get go. We ordered pepper jack queso &5 oz beers to start with. I am thrilled they serve 5 oz beers. So I am able to try all the different kinds they have on tap. It’s really a great idea, kuddos to this place! Great selection of food and the food is very good. If we lived here, we’d visit often.

I’ve lived in KC for 25 years and have driven by this place more times than I can count. The sign on Metcalf makes it look like a dive. It’s really kinda upscale. The service was better than many fancy places that I’ve eaten at and the food, all I can say is, YUM!!! I had a buffalo chicken sandwich and could only eat half, so good but so much! I can hardly wait to come back and try something else.

I’ve actually heard quite a hype over this little joint and had been meaning to give it a try. Happened to drive by one Tuesday evening and said«why not?» On entering it’s a seat yourself place, sourounded with TV’s and fun wall art. Was able to find a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly and took the time to explain the menu and a few of her favorites. Drink menu was extensive and several awesome beers on tap. Would definitely recommend coming back during happy hour, great specials! I took on the spicy Avacado burger and sweet potato fries. Looked amazing as it arrived at the table. I was slightly disappointed from there. The sandwich was so sawgy it fell apart… and the«spicy» namesake, well it would be better changed to «bland» burger. It was like a bad date, I went in wanting to fall in love and left wishing it was more. Bottom line… great place to meet up with friends, grab a drink and catch a game. But it’s a bar… and the food ranked about there for me… bar food.

Time for an update, because this has been better than the first time I tried it out. I LOVE their fried pickles. Holy hell those are amazing, and worth every bit of saturated fat. Their burgers are huge and sometimes, when the craving is just right for a big, flavorful burger, this spot just sticks out in my mind. Also, points for good tots. My server Laurie was so cool, she really helped us have a better experience this time around and while it’s a big meal and a bit out of the way, I’m going to be coming back.
