Great mexican food. 5 pages of choices… all sounded amazing. Espinaca dip… oh lordy. The best queso ever. EVER. the service was subpar and slow which is the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars. They have 2 for $ 1220oz patron Margs too!

I’ve become more and more disappointed in Mi Ranchito each year, and my latest experience confirms that it’s just not the spot for me. Back in the day, each menu item had a lot of flavor, a bit of spice and was overall good Mexican food. Things have seriously changed though, as most things I’ve tried have been exceptionally bland and only edible because I’m starving. The latest menu item to turn south is the Quesadilla Salad. Plain and simple, this is like a salad you’d pick up at an airport kiosk. It was full of thick, white wedges of iceberg lettuce, chicken that tasted like it was cooked for someone on a strict diet with no seasoning, and a small dollop of guacamole on a fried/microwaves flour tortilla. It’s just not good, and when I used to get it, it had mixed greens, fresh veggies and well flavored chicken. It’s worth mentioning that my tastes have really changed over the past decade. I enjoy authentic tacos, hotter than hell hot sauces and flavor way more than the traditional Tex-Mex I liked because I grew up on it. All taste changes aside, I still think the quality here has slipped year after year. Also disappointing, the oversized margarita I ordered the other night was 20 oz. of sweet syrup. I mean, I wasn’t looking to get up on the bar and dance or anything, but I can say I got about as much of a buzz as a whiff of hand sanitizer would give you. This was a completely watered down mixture. I’ll still go here as sort of an easy family gathering kind of place, but that’s really it. The chips and salsa are incredible and I should just start living off those when I visit.

We came here for a big group lunch, had a seat on the patio in the sun and enjoyed some fabulous mango margaritas. The food was wonderful the service was good. I would come back again.

I had a good experience here. The waiter was nice and the food tasted good. I had a relatively healthy dish, grilled chicken and veggies. It was tasty. I like the type of chips they use. They are the thin crispy type. I only wish I could have taken advantage of the ½ priced margaritas. But alas, I did have to go back to work. It’s a great hole in the wall kind of place.

It took a while but I finally figured it out: — Order the No. 1 Combo. — Eat the taco, rice, beans and all the chips and salsa you can manage. — Save the burrito and enchilada(and whatever bonus chips/dip you have). — Enjoy a hearty meal the next day. Do not go into this place thinking that you can finish your plate. I’ve made that mistake plenty. Be smart about it, consume close to your limit — do not exceed — and save the rest of that goodness for later. Is this the highest class of Mexican food? It depends: If your idea of Mexican food is tapas and high-end atmospheres, then this is not your place. But Mi Ranchito is the quintessential Mexican family restaurant in town. And they have horchata. Check and mate.

Mi Ranchito is one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. I’m a big fan of their carne asada tacos and the espinaca dip. In fact, that’s my go-to order on most visits. On my most recent visit, however, I tried the pollo poblano platter and love, love, loved it. As you might guess, it’s chicken and poblano peppers. It’s served in a cheesy, white cream sauce with tortillas on the side. Beans, rice, and polenta are standard. Service was good even though we were a fairly large table. Getting the check taken care of was a bit slow, but nothing to get worked up about. There are a number of Mi Ranchitos in KC and each one I’ve tried has had the same delicious food and friendly service. I highly recommend making this a staple in your rotation.

I’ve been going to Mi Ranchito for years, but felt inclined to write them a review just now as it seems to me that they just keep getting better and better! The chips and salsa are some of the best in the city and I’m yet to be disappointed by anything I’ve ordered off of their menu. Take that with reasonable prices and ample seating(unless you come on taco Tuesday) and you have a top notch Mexican restaurant!

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! I love taco Tuesday here. In my opinion they have the best tacos in town. Regular or deep fried doesn’t matter, because I am eating 5 either way and enjoying every bite.

Coming from Texas, I needed some good Mexican food, and I needed it NOW! We stopped in at Mi Ranchito based on Unilocal!reviews and welp… it’s freakin’ amazing. They don’t have some of the typical fare you get in Texas, but the food was AH-MAZZZZ-ING. The cheese dip, unmatched. I just happened to be in on $ 1 taco night, so that’s what I had. I figured they’d be whimpy little guys and ordered 5. They let me get chicken for no upcharge. I could only eat 3 and they were better than most tacos you get in the area. Needless to say, I’ll be back… maybe every week.

We came back to our«favorite» Mexican restaurant after moving out of state. What a disappointment! Bland, bland, and more bland. So Americanized it was hard recognizable as Mexican.

A bit of a disappointment on our visit to Mi Ranchito. There are numerous 4 and 5 star reviews for this place, so I thought it would be a good place to try, since my wife loves Mexican food. We started off with the espinaca dip, at the recommendation of the server. My wife looked at me odd when I ordered it. «You realize it’s a spinach dip, right?» I thought we’d at least try it. I had one taste, heavy duty spinach flavor. Couldn’t get past it. My wife tried a few more. She said she couldn’t get past the spice, a bit too much for her. The server switched us out for their queso dip. The queso dip was okay, not great. They advertised their queso as cheese with a 3 pepper blend of seasoning. I asked«is it too much to ask that your cheese taste like cheese?» The queso was more palatable than the espinaca dip, but still not that great. My wife did like the salsa, so that worked out at least. We then got our entrees, which was a bit of a change up for both of us. I got the chicken chimichanga. My wife got a chicken enchilada with the cream cheese sauce and a chicken taco. My chimi was pretty good. It had a red sauce on it, almost a mole. The chicken was nicely seasoned and I thought the sauce tasted fine. My wife didn’t care for it. The beans were ok, but not memorable. My wife thought the rice tasted like dirt. The enchilada was interesting with the cream cheese sauce and the taco was average, but my wife was very disappointed in the rice. Overall, my wife wanted to put in a 2 star review. I upped it to a 3 star because I did like my chimichanga.

This restaurant hits all the boxes in my check list. It has some good food, pleasant ambiance and very friendly staff. One thing that i must acknowledge is the service provided by the girl who waited upon my table. She was very polite and kept checking upon me from time and again to ensure that i enjoyed my meal. The chips were light, warm and crispy, which were served with three different types of salsa. i love the green one. I order a bean burrito and margarita. It was one of the best margaritas i had in sometimes. The tortilla in my dish was a little too large and folded like a package which made the skin of the burrito a little thick. Apart from this, the food was amazing.

What’s to say?! It’s Mi Ranchito! The margaritas are awesome and deep, the chips are warm and light, and the food is always on point. The service is awesome and super-friendly. We are often here with six or more people, chewing down on chips and enjoying time with one another. They have a decent gluten-free menu for the gluten-challenged and a broad selection of dishes with a bit of Americana for the kiddos with blander palette. Yummo!

I agree with a previous Unilocaler, Mexican food is either good or bad, there’s rarely an in between. Unfortunately for this restaurant, it was bad. The salsa was great! The cilantro could have been cut a little smaller, but it was still great! The chips were equally good. My kids got the taquitos and they were fine. It’s very hard to mess those up. I got the fajitas. My steak was undercooked(I ordered it well), and I’m sure they would have fixed it, but just didn’t mention it. The chicken and the shrimp were lack luster in the delicious seasonings that a good fajita has. My husband’s fajitas were equally as underwhelming. Kansas City is home to some great BBQ and it is home to some great steaks, but we have yet to find a restaurant worthy of the«tex-mex» label.

Used to be our favorite Mexican, not anymore. They need to put in a new floor as it looks like they put stucco on the floor… looks awful and dirty. Raised prices, though. The food is pretty good, but the place looks so rundown. Also, I know two people who had their credit card accounts stolen after eating there… makes you wonder! Sad to see it go downhill like this.

Sometimes it is hard to really distinguish one Mexican Restaurant from another. They are generally either good or bad with not a lot of middle ground. This is one of the good ones and has become our go-to Mexican place. We’ve now been a few times and I’ve always left full(sometimes too full) and satisfied. First, the basics. Their chips are really good. They are super thin and crispy and excellent. The salsa is pretty solid. The traditional salsa(«house» salsa, whatever you want to call it) is pretty straight forward and isn’t bad. The biggest mistake one can make with this type of salsa is too much cilantro(i’m one of those people that thinks it can taste like soap) and theirs gets right on the line of being the right amount without going over. they also serve a green salsa that is avocado based. It is really mild and flavorful. I’m a fan of that salsa(though I’m not a big avocado guy). They have an espinaca dip you can get(usually can find a coupon for a free order of it in random mailings and crap) and it’s pretty good. I generally prefer the green salsa though. I’ve had 3 or 4 different entrees and I have been happy every time. I had a sampler thing my first time(taquito, taco and chicken feliz thing) and it was all good. the feliz thing though? excellent! I absolutely loved it. Per usual, they all tend to come with rice and beans. I’m skip the beans(everywhere, not just here) so I’ve got nothing on those but the rice is fine. Nothing great, nothing bad. It’s filler like at all Mexican joints. Also usually come with sour cream, guac, etc if you are into those things. Also comes with a little scoop of this corn pastey stuff that I don’t know what it is called but I love the stuff. I’ve also had a couple different fajita options and I really liked the shrimp. Really, I think their grilled shrimp on anything would be great. It’s straight forward grilled shrimp but it just comes out great and is excellent. It’s a Mexican restaurant, so you aren’t talking fine dining and all that stuff. But for Mexican, it is right up there with the best places in KC that I’ve had. The space is pretty typical. The parking is tight with a shared lot in front of the building and then wrapping on the side. There is also street parking. I’d guess at their peak times, parking might be a problem, but a little walking never hurt nobody.

My second fave Mi Ranchito. This one is a little more cramped than the one on 95th St. This is still a great location, the servers always keep my drink full and my entrees are hot! Attentive managers too! I’m always asked how my meal was. Great location!

To review, things that will always hurt your rating. 1. Food with no seasoning 2. Swapping top round in place of «steak» 3. Delivering a plate that will cause a 2nd degree burn if touched 4. Hot lettuce on the side 5. A dirty bathroom The queso is the only redeeming factor in this place. Service was good even though they are spread a little thin. There is nothing more infuriating than ordering a steak burrito and not getting steak, call it a beef burrito. That I could accept, there is no surprise there, but what I was served was not steak.

I can’t believe it took me so long to try Mi Ranchito. The first visit was with our friends who highly recommended it to us. We weren’t disappointed. We have been back several times for dinner. Each time is as good as the previous visit. The chips are amazingly addictive. They are crisp and not too oily or overloaded with salt. If you’re a hot salsa person; ask for it. It has enough heat but too much that you can’t taste your food. The mild and the avocado are good too. I prefer the hot and more of it too. I had a very good and plentiful burrito for my first visit. But now I have ordered the carne asada tacos and haven’t looked back. The meat is tender and full of flavor. I usually end up taking one taco home because just one for dinner, along with the awesome black beans, is plenty. Plus I have had my share of chips and salsa as a starter. The service is top notch. Even when they are busy on Friday evenings we have been in and out in less than one hour. They also offer to pack up extra chips and salsa with your leftovers. Score! Mi Ranchito hits the Tex-Mex spot for me.
