Had a mid-day lunch there. Ambiance okay but preparation is fast. The Bbq beef sandwiches were very tasty and we weren’t disappointed. We also had baked beans. Very good but spicy. I would return

First time checking this place out. Looked at the menu online and was set to get the tin plate. As I was walking in, I saw the sign for the Burnt Ends special. For sides I got green beans and mac n cheese. Meat and mac n cheese were pretty good. Wasn’t much of a fan of the green beans. Can’t explain why, as I really like green beans. Passed on the free ice cream and drink as I got it to go. Service was outstanding. I will be back for sure.

Reviews for this place were mixed, but we were pleasantly surprised. I had the Big Western sandwich, beans, and fried okra. More food than I needed to eat, but did anyway. It would be in my top 7BBQ places in KC.

It’s fine. I mean this is KC so you’ve gotta be great to get a good review on BBQ. There are much better joints in town… Joe’s KC, Zarda, Haywards, WoodYard. I could literally go on all day long.

Being as that I have lived in Kansas City for all of my life, I know a lot about barbecue. I was born within walking distance of the legend that was, Quicks Barbecue — gone before its time, after almost 60 years. It’s a gun store now, but I digress. Dickey’s Barbecue is something of a novelty. I went there recently for the first time, because it looked somewhat interesting, and Groupon is great. The brisket lacks smoky flavor, and they leave too much fat on the meat. The pulled pork is succulent, yet lacking that«time» component that great barbecue is known for. It seems as though it is quickly prepared, in a sort of steam or braising, then finished on what somewhat resembles a barbecue preparation device. Perhaps it is the bane the meat is kept in that renders it nearly flavorless, but I wasn’t taken aback by no means; not bad, however when considering the mecca of BBQ, this meat just doesn’t cut the Au Juis. The fired Okra was refreshing, as I find it harder to locate, further north from our southern hospitality and it’s cuisine: overall, not bad. The beans were odd; not bad, but«dickey’s beans» if you get my drift. They butter the bread before toasting, like one does for a burger which lacks that extra flavor component. I found that particularly jarring, as good barbecue doesn’t even include bread. If you want a slice or two, it’s just pulled from some bag of generic bread they slap on the side for 10 cents a slice. The point is, the bread has always been an add-on to help gracefully deliver the smoked excellence to your face, keeping you from jamming your hands into a pile of meat like a sort of carne-cookie monster! The most interesting thing about Dickey’s is, they have a free self-serve, soft-serve machine — with cones. It made perfect sense after trying the food. Overall, not bad, but it doesn’t fit in, in Kansas City. A gimmick of culinary barbecue innovation, set well as a sort of BBQ chain restaurant, akin to what Olive Garden is for Italian food. It’s kinda food, and it can be quick and fun, but your Barbecue dollar — in KC — is well served, self-served, else where.

Good food, nice sides. Reasonable prices; it’s clean and service is good. Bring a sweater, because it’s usually freezing in the restaurant! The other thing I do not like is the tv playing loud Dickey’s commercials in between the country music. Come on! We come for a pleasant dining experience. They do have free ice cream.

I have had some really good BBQ and this place is only good. today had brisket, pulled pork and chicken. the sauces were OK and the brisket was dry. the only thing I really liked was the fries and that is mostly because I’m not supposed to have them any more

We ordered and the food was ready before getting to the register to pay. My daughter and I tried the pulled pork. It was excellent, very moist. We both liked the sweet BBQ sauce. She had the mac and cheese and I had the potato casserole. Both very tasty. We loved the free soft serve ice cream to finish our meals. We will definitely be going back.

We have always gotten our orders to go but last Sunday my husband and I dined in. Same excellent service, food is good and quickly prepared! Bonuses for eating in — endless iced tea with the best ice!, warm BBQ sauce, and soft serve ice cream is really good:) This place is very busy and was packed when we walked in — by the time we ordered and got our drinks several tables had opened up and they were all clean! I always get chopped brisket sandwich, fried okra and onion tangles(thinly sliced onion rings) — very good. My husband had pulled pork and hot links — also all very good. He had the potato bake — not his favorite — it is more like loaded mashed potatoes.

Hey, if they improve I will change my mind. And Dickey’s has improved dramatically since my last review. At a family event, those in charge of picking up Q got the Q from Dickey’s. I was very worried because I used to just hate their Q. But I found that the brisket and the ribs to be well prepared and in good shape. I prefer a touch more smoke but that’s nothing more than personal preference. I don’t know if they changed their system, hired a new pit master, or what… but I am pleased to announce that Dickey’s is back on the radar screen for me.

In a town over saturated with bbq restaurants, any new bbq place needs to work twice as hard to stand out. Dickey’s needs to try a little harder. I had the bbq turkey sandwich. I trusted that the cook was going to put enough sauce on it. It could have used some more. That’s my bad though, the cashier did point out the free sauce where I could have added on. I love coleslaw but there wasn’t a lot of flavor here. But at least it wasn’t soggy. I might be back to at least try the ribs. I came in right at closing time and the staff was super cool. I would be back just to see if they are that friendly all of the time.

I ordered the pulled pork«big barbecue» sandwich with beans and cole slaw at the counter. The meal was ready before I finished paying. The sandwich was piled high with moist, smoky, delicious, pulled pork. The beans were above average, and the cole slaw was okay. Extra pickles, jalapenos, three sauces, and free ice cream were available. Kids eat free on Sundays. The interior was spotless, with themed music playing. I was greeted when I entered, checked on while I ate, and thanked when I left. E-club and punch card discounts are offered.

I love their pulled pork and beef brisket. The bbq beans are amazing and the potato casserole were fantastic. I combined all the three available bbq sauces they have and it worked well with the meat. They served free soft serve ice cream and I believe it’s complimentary everyday. Kids eat free on Sunday!

I stopped in for a late lunch today and left feeling like this Dickey’s location does not care what sort of service they provide. Part of my food was served cold and the beans tasted like they had been sitting around for awhile. I mentioned it on the way out(not asking for a refund, just to let them know), and the manager got snotty that I even mentioned it. I will not be back. By the way, I sent this info to Dickey’s headquarters and they sent me a coupon for a free big yellow cup. Like I would even think of going back there again…

I was made fun of for buying a Groupon for a chain restaurant, but I don’t regret it. I received my food promptly after ordering it. I ordered the chopped brisket, polish sausage and ribs. All three meats tasted immaculately. The sweet sauce was just to my liking. If you like fries, make sure you order their waffle fries. Free soft-serve ice cream will help you finish off your meal.

I realize that there are a million KC bbq places we could have gone to, and maybe some that are better… but while visiting my brother and his girlfriend, we wanted something quick and tasty to have after a long day of moving. I ran over to pick it up and couldn’t BELIEVE how much food we got for 44 dollars! There were 5 of us, and we had a lot of leftovers. I loved that the smoked chicken wasn’t shredded, it was sliced… which was nice for those of us who went«bunless.» We got fries(meh) mac and cheese(average) and baked beans(bomb) I heard the shredded pork was tasty as well and all three of the sauces we got were delicious.

I read the reviews before and was instantly thinking that we were in for below average food. That wasn’t the case at all. The food is cheap but it was really good. You get a huge bang for your buck. I had the turkey, bbq beans, mac n cheese, and the roll. They had free ice cream but I was stuffed, so I passed this time. We will most definitely be back!

This first time I ever tried Dickeys was down in Dallas, I had no idea that there were locations here in Kansas! While it isn’t the most amazing BBQ that I have tried for«fast food» BBQ as I like to describe it, since the Dickeys I use to eat at down south had a drive thru, it is pretty decent food. I’ve always ordered the pulled pork sandwich and gotten and side of the Mac n Cheese!(I’m a sucker for Mac n Cheese, this wasn’t the best but it was good!)

Solid 4 star restaurant. The food was great and so was the service! Husband and I each tried the 1 meat platter. He had the Texas beef brisket and found it to be moist, smokey and plentiful. I opted for pulled pork and also really liked it. It was really finely minced and already had sauce on it, but that didn’t stop me from adding a little more of the HOT stuff. The sauces here are very tasty and nice and thin so a little goes a long way. Waffles fries were hot & crispy, I’d have them again. I was feeling«healthy» so had the Caesar salad as my second side. I don’t regret the choice, but I did miss having beans. The 1 meat platters also come with a bun(small, but tasty and fresh) and some pickles/onions. You can also help yourself to a great BIG pickle spear from the monster glass jar on the counter. Potato salad was more of the mashed variety, but had good flavor. Next time at least one of us will try the beans and coleslaw. Loved the free ice cream for dessert… always enjoy a little sweet something after a good meal. Good value for the money.

Not really into ice cream, but they had self serve vanilla for the taking. Green Beans had a good flavor. Brisket was a little tough. They have a few sauces to choose from. Good sweet tea. Used a Foodie KC coupon. No issues with that. Order your food and pick it up cafeteria style.
