This place is old faithful; Chinese Palace has been my go-to chinese joint for the past 15 years! It’s been a roller coaster for sure, they’ve had some years that were tastier than others but I must say that tonight they were at the top of their game, food-wise. An old pal and I were driving around tonight looking for a place to eat on a Saturday and everywhere was uncomfortably crowded so I was so relieved to get here to a peaceful quiet setting. Our waiter was in his usual quasi — grumpy mood but it’s okay because we asked for extra crispy sesame chicken and that’s darn well what we got, and my friend told me she was happy to see the restaurant filling up with patrons as we were leaving, a sign they’ll stay open for years to come… I’m confident they will and I consider them an Overland Park landmark:)

This place sucked. The quality of the food was horrible. The chicken was really dry and oversalted. The egg drop soup was nuclear yellow, literally glowing in dim lights. And the waiter was very impatient and wanted to order super fast, by saying, «okay, next.» And there was only one other group there. Never going back.

A friend brought me to her«usual» place for lunch. I think I will also become a regular! I love little places that serve good food with prompt service. I’m also a sucker for a great lunch special with all the fixings for a wonderful price! I did not go exotic at all today… I had the sweet and sour chicken. It was great. So was the fried rice and the spring roll AND crab rangoon(Isn’t it fantastic when you get BOTH and don’t have to choose!!!) For me the shining star was the hot & sour soup. Really tasty. And really full of mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tofu and egg. BIG menu. Lots to try on my subsequent visits. Décor is really tired and needs updating for this to be a 5 star place, otherwise, it is amazing.

I LOVETHISPLACE! I always eat here for quick dinners and its so great! I usually get take out because they give you more food so its like 3 dinners in one(aka leftovers galore). The only complaint is they no longer deliver but thats not a huge deal since I live fairly close. Great food!

Very delicious I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed it’s a great place for lunch but during dinner they raise prices for about the same size portion. Overall a good experience the service is quick and it is impressive to watch the one waiter manage all the tables. This visit tonight will certainly not be the last! :)

I waited on hold for ten minutes to order food to go… After 5 minutes I had already decided to order from the best Chinese food in the area FORTUNEWOK! I waited the last five minutes so that I could inform them they had lost my business to which the woman on the phone was extremely rude and belligerent about. I’m never going back! You shouldn’t go either! Go to FORTUNEWOK! Waaaaay better food!!!

A friend and I have dinner here pretty often before heading downtown for our symphony or opera performances! Chinese Palace is a good place to keep in mind if you’re looking for a pleasant place to eat in JoCo before an event in town — the restaurant is right by the U.S. 69 freeway entrance on 119th Street so you can zip downtown after dinner in 15 minutes or so without having to rush! Service is invariably quick, so your meal will arrive quickly and you won’t need to worry about delays getting to your performance. See my earlier reviews and others for comments about the food. It’s primarily the usual Cantonese fare with some other popular Hunan, Szechuan and Mandarin dishes, but it’s always been flavorful and well-prepared(as good as the food in any typical Chinese restaurant in San Francisco) and if there’s something you particularly crave that’s not on the menu they will make it for you, like most Chinese restaurants, as long as they have the ingredients in the kitchen. Chinese Palace is also excellent if you’re famished at dinnertime, because the«family dinner» for 2 or more is a greatvalue at $ 13.95 or so per person — it includes an extremely generous appetizer assortment on a lazy-susan with a flaming brazier in the center on which you grill the skewered satay-style beef that’s part of the selection. It also includes egg rolls, crab rangoon, fried chicken drumettes, barbeque ribs, fried shrimp, etc., followed by an entrée for each person from anything on the menu priced at $ 10.95 or less. You won’t leave hungry, and if there are leftovers they are very good about bringing boxes to take them home. The meal also comes with their usual welcome plate of slightly sweet-sour marinated cucumber spears and ends with a refreshing cut orange and a fortune cookie. At these prices, you can hardly go wrong!

I just love this place! Can’t speak to the whole menu because I ordered the Kung pao triple delight the fist time I ordered(8 years ago) and have stuck to it ever since. It’s the best and this place is so much better than your average Chinese restaurant. Highly recommended!

This place was mostly awful, except for the service. Waiter was nice enough although mystified why we would want to order dinner portions at nearly 2 when they were still serving lunch specials. We had to explain three times that we understood we wouldn’t get soup, an egg roll or crab Rangoon. The dishes were either bland or over sauced, and the beef looked like pork and was soft and mushy. And to top it off, the fortune cookies had black spots inside and stupid comments vs fortunes. We won’t be back.

The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the restaurant is pretty clean and in good shape for a Chinese restaurant. Chow mein was a joke. They served fried wonton chips as the crispy noodles. Not even close to what that dish is supposed to be. Service was slow and unfriendly. Definitely won’t be going back.

So far, so good. They deliver which is wonderful. Don’t trust their time frames for delivery, it said 45 – 60 min and it came in 30 max. We got the crab rangoon based on the other reviews and they were awesome! Fried rice was a little bland but not bad. Sweet and sour chicken was great and didn’t get once chewy or hard piece of chicken. We will definitely be back.

I have been numerous times and each time is always a great experience. I have ate there, had it delivered and take out and no complaints. They will customize your order(extra spicy, no celery). Best egg rolls I have had, when you order extra spicy-beware this place understands extra spicy!

I stopped in for lunch the other day since I was craving Chinese food. There was a nice little lunch crowd and most tables were occupied. The interior is very traditional, and the service was fast and friendly. I thought the lunch combinations were fairly priced for the amount of food that you get. I decided to start with the hot and sour soup. I thought the soup was great and better than the hot and sour soup that I’ve had elsewhere. Then came a crab rangoon and eggroll. I didn’t like the eggroll, but thought the crab rangoon was light, fluffy, and delicious. For my main course I went with the garlic chicken, which came with fried rice. I was very disappointed. The fried rice had no flavor to it. It basically tasted like white rice. The garlic chicken was covered in mushrooms. I wish it said this on the menu because I hate mushrooms. I was able to pick around them though. The chicken was just ok. One of the pieces that I bit into had either cartilage or bones, and I was completely turned off. Another thing I did not like was that they had sweet and sour sauce and spicy mustard just sitting on the table in bowls with spoons. It just screamed germs. My experience wasn’t horrible, but it’s not somewhere I will go out of my way to dine at again.

A friend i was visiting in Overland Park suggested that we have lunch here as the food was supposed to be good. We had the beef kebab for which they give you a flame at the table to cook the kebab to your liking. We also had the hot and sour soup which was good and Chicken and Shrimp fried rice. They added beef into the fried rice and when this was pointed out to them they quickly replaced that without any questions so great customer service from a Chinese restaurant which i did not expect. Service was fast and courteous. Overall a very satisfying meal.

This place has a great lunch menu with incredibly descent prices. Included in your meal is an egg roll, crab rangoon, choice of soup, steamed or fried rice and is most often under $ 6. The atmosphere is quiet and nice. If you need to dine alone I would recommend this place.

As with many other things, I have very strong opinions about where I go for Chinese food. I’ll try any place that seems reputable, but I always go back to my favorites. After trying Chinese Palace a couple of weeks ago, I have to admit that I finally have something to be envious of my JoCo friends for having.(keep this on the DL or I may never hear the end of it) A friend had told me for months that this was the only place he would go for Chinese food and as soon as he could get me to travel to the burbs, he jumped at the chance to show me why. What impressed me the most? The value. Many Asian restaurants run lunch specials, but to get soup, crab rangoon AND an egg roll, rice, plus a much larger than expected main entrée(with shrimp, mind you) for $ 7 seemed a bit more extraordinary than special. We were both thrilled with the quality of the food we were given and shared what we ordered since I had branched out and tried something new. My shrimp dish was labeled as having a bite to it but honestly, the spice was really good. Medium for sure, but not a scary kind of hot. His was his usual, the beef and broccoli, and it was just as good if not better than any place I’ve found here in the city for delivery or carryout. We were both thrilled that our veggies were nice and crisp and the meat not chewy or overcooked. We received the perfect amount of food so no food coma was induced but we both left sufficiently stuffed. I now know where I will go for Chinese next time I’m in the OP area and have recommended this place to friends already. I wasn’t able to look at the dinner menu but with lunch prices so reasonable for such good quality, I’m sure the dinner prices/selection will not disappoint.

Don’t judge the place by the outside! A coworker took me here for lunch yesterday, and I had low expectations when we pulled into this older strip mall. I am not a fan of Chinese because I usually leave feeling like grease is seaping out of my pores. Not at Chinese Palace. For as inexpensive as my lunch was, the shrimp and vegetables were large and fresh. The Red Curry Trio was a special, and I will go back just to order this dish again. Great crab rangoon too!

After experiencing an undesirable dining situation, my bf and I found ourselves next door to Chinese Palace. Since I work nearby, I have actually stopped in here for lunch(great value, great food!) Although this was not the type of cuisine I was craving earlier in the evening, we were hungry and wanted to eat, so we walked on in. We were immediately greeted and seated, and waters were promptly provided. Our server was very efficient and courteous. We ordered some soup, which arrived with slightly sweetened cucumbers and pieces of fried wonton. I really love hot and sour soup, and Chinese Palace does it right. Nice mushroom strings and small pieces of lean pork, in a spicy, tangy broth. Yummy. The cucumber spears were really refreshing, but I passed on the fried wontons. I think they were served for the soup, but I’m never really a fan… Our entrees arrived in a timely manner, steaming hot, and large portions. Both entrees were delicious with good tasting vegetables, the right amount of sauce, and lean, perfectly cooked protein. The food was great, and I cannot express how friendly the service was. We will definitely be back.
