This is an old style restaurant for old style dining. Take your Grandmother here, she’ll love it. Came with with wifey’s aunt yesterday. It was a nice afternoon. The décor is dated, but in a good way. Very nice landscaping and garden around the restaurant. They had multiple event spaces for weddings, baby showers, what have oyu. Service was slow, but good. The prices seem high on first glance,($ 29 for bratwurst!?) but you get a good value for that. Entrees come with an appetizer, and a salad, and the entrée portions are gigantic. The Fruit salad looked great, it came with a mini scoop of sherbert that was a nice touch. The caprese was small, and ok, needed more balsamic. The salads were good, wifey really liked the herb dresing on hers. I’m pretty sure my «Dijon» dressing was Honey Mustard. The brats were fantastic, grilled to perfection. Really nice home made saurkraut on the side. Nice Spaetzle. I could have taken half home. Wifey’s Penne vodka was very good, with some high quality cheese on top. The schnitzel looked terrific. The meal took 2.5 hours, for lunch. Now in this case, we were fine with that because we were catching up with relatives we haven’t seen in awhile, in a nice space, over good food, with a lovely view. But I can understand how some people would be frustrated.

This is our first visit to Travelers Rest. Wished we found this establishment sooner. To me, it was old world charm. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. A rare find is to have the owner visit your table to assure all is acceptable. The prices of the entrees are a bit steep, but I’m guessing it’s paired w/it pretty much being a double portion. Almost everyone in the dining room was packaging up their meals. Great attentive service. We will be back on Prime Rib Night. Thank you Travelers Rest for being a German eatery still going strong! Most are faded memories, sadly.

Tonight, Saturday, my wife and I and another couple arrived at 6 pm and were immediately seated. the problem was that they used one dining room downstairs. The other dining room was closed. This caused every table to be used in the one dining room. No room for the waiters to move around. The noise level was incredible! I could not hear my wife who was seated next to me. Two tables away one woman was talking about her family who ran out of bottled water. Two tables away in the other direction one man was regaling his tablemates with a story about an acquaintance who took his car to a jiffy lube and they forgot to fill it with new oil and his engine was ruined. Ypou get the idea, crowded and noisy. Additionally we waited 33 minutes after the salad course for our main course to arrive. Main course was like room, not hot. The food wasn’t bad but it was nothing special. The server did a good job, as good as could be done with a slow kitchen. I can’t say I would never go back but it would have to be during the week, and it won’t be anytime soon. This is a not inexpensive dining establishment so we should have been able to enjoy our night out more. All they had to do was start seating folks in the other room. So what if both rooms were half full?

We have been going to Travelers for almost twenty years, around the holidays and for private parties. The ambience is festive, the servers friendly, but something happened to the food. We were a party of twenty and it seemed they could not handle the amount. Truthfully the duck was dry and overdone, the chicken was tough, the soup and the stuffings were salty and the fillet mignon was left uneaten on everybody’s plate. Others in the party liked their pasta and chicken cordon blu, but even the rack of lamb was not eaten. The Christmas menu is expensive and this was not worth the money and quality of the food. Truthfully, we would have been better in a diner. Sorry Travelers, you have lost us as seasonal customers.

If this were written anywhere between 1995 and 2011, this review would boast a far higher rating, replete with raves and nostalgic tales and blissful memories. But alas, it is 2014, and things have changed. My Father and I have had our Thanksgiving tradition here for as long as I can remember. Up until 2011, the experiences have left us stuffed, grateful and satiated, to say the very least. Without further ado, I present to you some specifics about what has changed. Two nights ago, we sat after a short wait at a great table by the fireplace(although my Father had specifically asked to NOT be seated at the fireplace. But no matter; we were okay with it.) Our waiter, a very pleasant fellow(though clearly a touch inexperienced), took our drink orders and left us to look at the menu(he didn’t know what a Chivas Regal was, nor that they didn’t have any drink specials; but no matter. We were happy to be there!) And on we went. Fast forward to the receipt of our appetizers. Both my Father and I ordered the baked stuffed clams, and they were cold. Not tepid, but refrigerator cold. All of them. When we told the waiter, he apologized profusely and returned roughly ten minutes later with new ones. Mine were hot; my Father’s were tepid. When the turkey came, my Father was wholly sans utensils, and there were no serving utensils with the enormous platter of turkey. Once we had eaten and ordered dessert, my coffee that arrived was COLD. Genuinely cold. I felt like I’d been beaten by a gang in an alley by this point, so I didn’t raise a hand in protest. During the course of our two hour stay, I heard LITERALLY four different groups complain about how the restaurant«wasn’t what it used to be,» and two different groups audibly complained to the hostess on the way out. After over two decades of attending this restaurant, I do believe we’ll return only with a scowl and a large mark of skepticism, if only in hopes that our opinions will be defied and we will find a vastly improved restaurant where the 2014 version used to stand.

We’ve been going to TR for Thanksgiving for years, but yesterday they dropped the ball. Cold appetizer, no utensils with the platter, cold coffee. The waiter waited for us to clear space for dishes like you’d expect at a diner. Poor training and bad management. Another trip like this, and we’ll find another Thanksgiving restaurant.

Had our Easter dinner here tonight. There were six of us and everyone enjoyed it. The place was packed but the service was great and each course arrived promptly. We had tomato and mozzarella, and chopped chicken livers for appetizer. Both were good. Fresh baked loaves of bread were served warm. An Olive plate was brought for the table. For entrees we had roast leg of lamb, Wiener schnitzel, chicken Marsala and chicken francese. All were delicious. Cheesecake, carrot cake and apple strudel for dessert was a great finish. Would definitely come back.

Don’t believe everything you read. I’m not sure why the negative reviews are popping up because our dining experience was terrific. The renovations to the restaurant were apparent and tasteful. Same Travelers Rest feel with modern upgrades. The waitstaff was friendly, knowledgable and professional. Portions are very big so order accordingly. I can’t wait to return for another order of escargot. Butter, garlic and tender little snails. Delicious! For big eaters they offer a Seafood Extravaganza. The menu was so expansive I stopped reading. I’m a «split a dinner» kind of eater. Lots of good sides for the entrees. Prices are on the high end of pricey but remember you’ll get 2 meals out of every entrée. Another point that needs to be made. It’s certainly not a party bar or restaurant but Travelers is the perfect quiet romantic date night restaurant.

This place is awful since the new owners returned. They care nothing about service, spend all of their time with their friends and give absolutely no oversight to the kitchen or dining room. I was told 45 minutes after I ordered my entrée that it was no longer available(they didn’t know that when I ordered it?). My prosciutto and melon has one small piece of prosciutto and the salad was wilted field greens that tasted like rejects from the supermarket salad bar. Can’t comment on the entrees, since we left when we learned mine was not coming. I didn’t want my husband to wait another 45 minutes while they cooked something else for me. This place always used to be jammed. It’s been half empty the last few times we’ve been there. I understand why. We won’t be back. This was one of the nicer places in Westchester. What a shame.

Ate here as a baby shower guest. the steak was delicious. My elderly great aunts claimed their pork tenderloin was overcooked, and the owner gladly replaced them with the steak. I just hope these two 90 somethings don’t go to other places thinking every place will accommodate them this way. they had two private parties going on simultaneously and a third started before I left, so you know the restaurant could be generous. The service was terrific. The outside patio is sublimely beautiful.

I went here for a dinner-dance with my bowling league. The food wasn’t anything to write home about, but the service was great. I found that the dance floor of the room we were in was pretty small but the room led out to a beautiful patio. There was a great gazeebo and gorgeous waterfall.

Over the years we have been here for weddings, birthday parties, and just dinner. Yesterday, we went here to celebrate my dad’s birthday. Our appetizers, salads, desserts, were all very tasty and the portions were impressive. The 4-course meal for the price they offer is a good bargain. My wife had the red snapper with crab meat and was very disappointed. She said it was bland and overcooked. I had the fisherman’s platter and was equally disappointed. Bland and no taste. The swordfish smelled a bit. My parents had the smoked pork loin and the breaded veal cutlet. They loved it. The carrot cake, black Forrest cake, and coffee were all excellent. Service was very good as well. I have no doubt if we had ordered something other than the fish, we would have liked our experience better.

Always enjoy ourselves at the Travelers Rest. Just recently there for Easter Sunday. We were not rushed and service & food were superb. I highly recommend this restaurant. Can’t explain all the reviews, but we were more than satisfied. If pricing concerns you give them a call and they will run down the menu for you. It’s a lovely way to spend a day or evening meal.

We went here years ago around Christmas time and it was a wonderful experience with great German food and amazing decorations. We recently went back and found a different restaurant. We were brought downstairs to a stuffy and crowded room and left. We were waiting for a waitress to come over and take a drink order for 10 mins. During that time the manager came to check in with every table around us, but did not come to us. As we waited we thought we might enjoy a little bit a bread, but when we opened the bread basket it had two«breadsticks» and two crackers. They didn’t look appetising, but we figured we save our appetite for some good German food. That’s where things really got bad. There was barely any German food on the menu. I definitely wasn’t coming here to have chicken parm. After waiting for another five minutes with no attention from the wait staff we decided to leave to never return.

You have to try the artichoke appetizer. Excellent. The salad with dijon vingrette dressing is also so excellent. I really loved this place. The service was excellent, it had a homie feel and good German food. I am on the A diet so meat and vegtables worked really well for me. The prices are great. No wonder they are always booked. Great place to take a family for special occasions to.

I was here on Christmas day with my family and even though it was late in the day the server was very accommodating and knowledgeable. The food was decent and included appetizer salad, entrée, dessert and coffee. I’ve been going in on Sundays — they have a wide assortment of complete dinners for $ 30. Including my favorite wiener schnitzel with potato pancakes. I really enjoy the décor — too many of the restaurants these days are cold and sparse.

Christmas day dinner. The staff is under trained, completely knowledgeable and rude. If it were any other day and I wasnt with my family, I would have given them a piece of my mind and walked out. @ about 120 a person the quality was far below what would be acceptable in any other town. Aside from the awful service, the onion soup and appetizers were almost tolerable. The only reason why this even gets 2 stars is because my Fresh Roast Prime Rib of Beef au jus was excellent.

Went here for a family dinner — definitely a time warp. They do what they do well — old style food but great. wiener schnitzel, chateaubriand, beef wellington. Overall everything(the décor, the service, the food) feels a little dated. Be ready to spend a lot of $.

I felt like I walked straight into 1965, when fine dining meant appetizers of radishes and black olives on ice and a good salad was an iceberg wedge with roquefort dressing. They even brought freshly baked rolls to the table. The menu was filled with the type of dishes that I had not seen on a menu for 20 years, like chicken cordon bleu and chauteau briand It’s a huge place that caters to large parties and weddings. There are several enormous rooms. But unfortunately, we were a small group looking for good food, and it was not a successful journey for us. Our night was filled with long waits — a full 15 minutes passed before a waiter took a drink order. Another 15 minutes before they arrived! If you’re doing the math, that’s right: 30 minutes after we sat down, we got our first drink. No wonder, I think the waiter had a quarter-mile journey from our table to the kitchen. By the time our main course finally arrived, we had wised up: we asked for the check pronto. The food was OK, but dramatically over-priced.
