Charlie Horse Restaurant

So far not impressed, apparently there is a party of 5 and below sweet spot and if you have more than 5 you are automatically put on the back burner for special tables or something, all I know is after 40 minutes and 3 parties of 5 going ahead of us then we are made aware oh well sir it’s because you have 6 not 5 or less. So very upset and very hungry, it will take some very good food to change my mind on this place at the moment., after getting my meal, and not being hangry anymore, the food was great and the service too, they could definitely improve on the initial communication, but we all miss stuff sometimes.

First time here, we waited about 15 minutes for a table. Nice atmosphere! The server was very busy but did not miss a beat with making sure we had everything.
The salads, drinks and appetizers came out fast. The food is very good! Try the crab cake bites.
I will be visiting this place again for my July 2016 trip!

Best service, great food and atmosphere. Laid back and good for kids too. Fair prices as well which made for a great night/​meal.
Had captain Brian’s meal with mahi and everything was fresh. Nicely cooked and desert was some coconut cream cake thing that was devoured in seconds. Well done guys first meal of our vacation was a hit!

Unilocalers lead me wrong! This gets a star for having hot dogs (not a menu item usually). It gets a star for how the manager handled a bad crab claw order. Everything else from the cheese steak sandwich to the rice pilaf was inedible.
The manager did bring out fresh crab claws to the woman that had over cooked ones. That was good.

The sea food was not local and fresh. Too bad cause it was right across the street from the ocean. It was a mediocre experience, probably wont return.

Great food and experience. Crab legs were amazing and staff accommodated our 3 kids well. Even though they don’t take reservations we got in quick and enjoyed walking off the meal at the beautiful Park across the street.

I really enjoyed this place. The Ribeye steak was excellent quality. The drinks were great! Recommend!

Had been meaning to try this place. Had crab cakes and Caesar salad. not bad, but definitely isn’t Maryland crab cakes. I had the appetizer. it wad large. were 8 mini cakes. most places only give 4−6… Daddy Bob had blackened mahi mshi with pineapple salsa. said delicious. other 2… Please. They got chicken.

I came here tonight based off of the reviews here on Unilocal.The atmosphere is an awesome family type atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They work together to take care of their customers. I sat at the bar since I was alone. Kenny was tending the bar and was very helpful. I was considering the 1.5lb crab leg dinner when he suggested the combo with 1 lb of crab legs and half pound of peel and eat shrimp. Great value at $ 21,99. The red potatoes were perfect and the Cole slaw made fresh was great. My drink glass never went empty and they kept the top clean. I highly recommend the Charlie Horse. I found a place to replace Riptides for seafood.

Awesome crablegs! Its been years since I cracked one open! There was sooo many! That was just the appetizer size too. The shrimp jalapeño poppers were great too especially with that sweet spicy sauce the give you! The waitress was very nice and It was a treat listening to all the old 80s songs playing in the background. It was an overall great experience and I would definetly come back!

Crab legs are great it’s seems they give you the best ones on your first plate if you get the all you can eat
Anyway after the second plate crab leggs go way down in quality
Not too bad though. But the other items not so good
Actually they should take some of their items off the menu if they can’t put out a good dish

We ate here 3÷15÷16 for dinner. Although we waited about 50mins for a table for two on a Tues night, I suppose it was indicative of the quality of food & service we were about to get! Plus, it was full of locals waiting as well, so we knew we were hopeful we made the right choice. Our server Brandon was helpful with crab cracking tips & was super friendly. We had the sweet fried corn nuggets & stuffed cheddar jalapeño shrimp to start, both yummy! One of our party had a 10oz sirloin that was cooked to perfection at med rare. And personally I had the 2lb crab dinner for $ 19.99. What a deal for the amt of food! They also had an all you can eat crab dinner deal for $ 38pp, which seemed like the popular draw. I’d definitely come again if in the area!

Had the coconut shrimp and clam chowder. The clam chowder was full of clams and excellent. Very good seafood restaurant and would highly recommend.

Went here cause of the 4 star rating. In my opinion it was barely a 3 star. The food wasn’t bad but wasn’t great. My husband ordered the rib special on Monday night… pretty good deal $ 15 for a full rack. Problem with it was they were over cooked. Also, they give you a tiny side of BBQ sauce. We had to ask for sauce twice. I recommend maybe having a bottle of sauce on the table?
I ordered the crab legs and shrimp. The marquee outside says they have been serving crab legs for 25 years so I was expecting them to be exceptional or at least really good… they weren’t. They too were over cooked. So much so that when I went to use the crab cracker they didn’t crack cause the shells were so soft. I had to open every crab leg with a fork. Oh and forget the crab coming out in one piece, it was so over cooked you had to scoop out the meat with a fork causing the crab to be shredded which really kinda sucked.
Our server was nice though. That’s why they get three stars. If I was just going by the food it would be 2 stars.

Thank you Unilocal!We had intended on leaving Daytona Beach before dinner but our plans changed at the last minute — thought we’d have a very difficult time finding a quality restaurant to eat at. But you never fail me! The Charlie Horse was awesome, friendly staff, quick service & most importantly great food! By far Unilocal is my favorite app And if you want great seafood stop in at the Charlie Horse!

The Charlie Horse was recommended to us by the bartender of another restaurant. They are famous for all you can eat crab legs for $ 37.99; but on Tuesdays they have Crabby Tuesdays where you can get 2 lbs of crab legs with a side for $ 19.99, and if you want more they can upgrade you to the all you can eat. Believe me that 2 lbs of crab legs are a LOT; and that’s about all we could hold.
The wait here can be a little long to get a table, because it is not a very big place, but it is pretty popular with visitors and locals.
The service here was pretty good, they were nice and friendly and took good care of our party of 8.

This place has excellent seafood plates. On vacation with my mom and sister we ate here. They both had the fish and shrimp combo plates and loved them. I had the Cajun shrimp skewers over pasta, and it was excellent. We also got the crab cake balls, but were not so fond of those (I’ve had much better crab cake appetizers.).
I also believe my husband and I ate here on our trip to Daytona, but I believe we only had an appetizer and drinks.
The atmosphere was all right. They were really packed, and some of the guests were a bit loud (possibly intoxicated). It was also very warm. Not sure if the AC was on the fritz or because of how crowded it was, but I was extremely glad to get something cold to drink.
We also didn’t see our server very much, but I chalk that up to again how busy the place was. She was nice, though.
I would definitely go again just maybe at a less busy hour next time.

This place is one of those small restaurants that you want to try again. My friend and I went twice during a recent vacation.
One night we got the Captain Brian’s sampler and the other the crab leg dinner. Each time it was cooked very well and didn’t take long to get out to us. Very tasty.

4 stars for a tasty dive bar/​lunch spot… that hit the spot!
We were in the area and were looking for a seafood-​ish place to eat lunch. It was by recommendation from a local to try Charlie Horse for some seafood deciliousness.
They have lunch specials throughout the week, each day and today was a grilled fish burger with fries and soft drink for $ 7.95, which I thought was a nice deal. I ordered the grilled shrimp with fries ($ 10.99) and a side of 4 hush puppies ($ 1).
I really wasn’t expecting too much since it was kind of dive-​bar-​like. But I was pleasantly surprised… the shrimp were huge and tasty too! The fries were awesome. However, the hushpuppies needed some help, seemed to be corn based and kind of on the small side, I’ve had better. My mom enjoyed her sandwich and it was tasty as well. I liked how they gave us the entire bottle of cocktail sauce and tarter sauce to the table.
The service was great, no need to ask for a refill, the waiter brought out another right away. And gave us to-​go cups. Also to take note, they had a full bar with a variety of drink specials, but we didn’t partake in any.

My boyfriend had been raving about the all you can eat crab legs for months before we even came to Daytona Beach, so I was excited for this meal! He got the AYCE crab legs and boy did he eat them! Definitely got his monies worth! I was on the fence about getting the 1.5 lbs or the AYCE as well. I went with the 1.5lbs, and I’m glad I did! I could not have eaten any more than i did! They were good crab legs, the cole slaw and potatoes that came with it were good also. We left here stuffed and happy!
