No longer open in a store front. We were in the area from out of state and were going to visit — but they are no longer open. They only do events now I guess. Unable to give a real review of the product, but bummed we couldn’t try it out– our kids were excited :(.

This review is for their booth at Taste of Buffalo. As cool as it was to see a lot of restaurants bring their heavy equipment to cook food on-site @ ToB, Nitro Magic should’ve been the biggest winner in that respect. However, liquid nitrogen canisters were nowhere to be found as all of their stuff came out of boxes. I thought the entire draw of using molecular gastronomy was to flair involved in making the food, not necessarily the end product. And because of that and the weather, their ice cream was put at a big disadvantage. Yet they still managed to win the rookie-of-the-year award at the competition. At least one of the workers there let me get 2 items worth 10 tickets for 9 b/c that’s all I had left. I had the«Have your cake and eat it too»(aka cake batter ice cream) and a «Nitro Pop». Neither really all that special.

Nitro magic is surely one of kind experience that many has seen on the food network and on Bravo’s Top Chef. Creating ice cream using nitrogen!!! Whoa, I know. I was intrigued when visiting the Galleria to quickly pay some bills. Located on the second floor right outside of Macy’s, it’s worth to stop even just to watch and to be amazed. Three employees where quickly moving around the little shop amist a gathering of people just as curious as I was. The large tanks of nitrogen were spouting the gas and the ice cream creators were quickly stirring the concoction as the ohhs and ahhs were being heard. You could either get a flavor of nitro cream and add your own toppings or there is also a list of sundae-like menu options. Flavors like vanilla, chocolate, mint, strawberry, cake batter, pitschao, and coffee were options. The saying of Go big or go home flashed in my mind. So I ended up going with Nitro Mike’s Fav which was cake batter ice cream with cookie dough, peanut butter mixed it. The ice cream was very creamy and yet seemed a little less heavy than a typical Perry’s offering. The price ended up being just over $ 6 with tax. They apparently also catering at special events like weddings and birthdays which is a pretty cool idea. The employee who made my order also mentioned that more franchises are coming. But right now they are only at the Walden Galleria mall. As much of a haven of canadiens that the Galleria has become, I feel I’ll bear it to have some more of their ice cream!
