First time here and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. A little pricey but we’ll worth it. Good food and good service. Will definitely come back and bring more folks. Did want to mention that the Sunday hours show 11am till 5pm instead of 8pm. Looks like it has been changed on the sign.

Just like it’s name Cock on the Walk, this place is quite unique with regard to its Southern cookin’. We arrived pretty hungry after attending Auburn U.‘s graduation, so we went heavy on the appetizers. I loved that we could order greens in a pot and cheesy grits in a pot, which was plenty as a very yummy appetizer for our party of 8. Also had the fried green tomatoes and fried pickles. The tomatoes were fantastic. It was served with what looked like ranch dressing — quite honestly, I think I’d prefer something more flavor — popping. The pickled onions, corn bread and cole slaw are served as appetizers to every table. The cole slaw was not a «typical» garden variety, but we loved it! The onions were a unique accompaniment to our appetizer array — and definitely was a wow factor for those in our party that like onions. I had a generous-sized chicken fried steak, which was presented with a thick crunchy coating and white peppered gravy. Outside of the baked potato, french fries or sweet potato that you can order as a side to the entrée, the entrée is not served with a hot vegetable. I was surprised that mashed potatoes or a rice pilaf was not offered as a side, as I would have preferred either of these. Overall, I’d love to visit this restaurant again. Very good Southern food. Very good food and great for kids. We sat outside and our kids feed the turtles and ducks with the leftovers. Great entertain for kids. The shrimp and catfish were homemade not frozen. Cornbread and especially the slaw were very good.

The cornbread was very very good. Me and my wife had crab claws for appetizer, catfish and shrimp and they were all very good. I would recommnd this place and will be going back.

Based on a local suggestion for the best catfish around I went there on my second week in town for an extended business trip. The fried catfish was indeed good. The coleslaw clearly above average. My server was excellent then it goes down hill fast. The baked potato(offered instead of fries) was past it’s prime and at 6:30PM was overcooked and starting to get hard and dry. I’m a big fan of bread and when they brought out this miniature cast iron skillet of corn bread(I think) my eyes lit up. I have a habit of eating too much bread and I love cornbread. After a few bites I pushed it aside. The dry flavorless offering wasn’t worth the extra carbs in my diet. Not a fan of drinking diet coke out of a tin cup but I guess they think that adds to the atmosphere. Conclusion, not worth a return visit, yes I’m picky but I’ve been to the Full Moon three times in my two week stay.

I can’t believe we had to wait an hour and a half after being told 30 minutes. then when we went back there were several tables open. We had to wait on a server. Won’t go back.

Went here a couple weeks ago and we absolutely love this place. Get here early to avoid a long wait because this place gets packed. The prices seem expensive but when you consider what is included(coleslaw, cornbread, and pickled onions come out before your meal), it is worth it. Next time I think I would split an entrée with someone(I think it was a +$ 3.50 upcharge to split entrees) and it would still be plenty of food! I got a combo of fried oysters and fried catfish. The fried oysters were some of the BEST I have ever had! Best part of the meal! The catfish was good but not spectacular(it was a tad overcooked I think) but I still ate it all with no complaints. Service is friendly(the server will flip your cornbread for you when they bring it out!) I’m taking one star off because the hours posted on their website is wrong! It says 11am-9:30pm on Friday, but that is definitely incorrect because the sign outside the restaurant says they don’t open until 4pm. We were traveling from Georgia hoping to get a late lunch there and were disappointed that they weren’t open like the website said they would be. Another thing that is dumb is the sign outside says«OPENDAILY» but they are not open on Mondays… not sure if they understand what daily means!

This is only the 2nd time I ate at Cock of the Walk. First time was almost 20 years ago. What a shocker! Food was okay but nothing impressive or any different than I could have gotten at another local mom & pop restaurant for MUCHMUCH cheaper! The real shocker was the price tag for fried food! I could have gone a mile up the road and paid $ 30 for the same amount & quality of food I got here for over $ 80! If I am going to pay that much, there had better be something more than the waiter/waitress flipping corn bread.

A 4 to 5 time diner. Food and service is good but those little details are missing that I need for **** or more. Freshen things up a bit and there is probably a fourth star there.

This was my first trip here, I was very impressed bumpy the cole slaw and pickled onions. I ordered the chicken and catfish plate with macaroni. The chicken and fish was delicious, very seasoned and flavorful. My wife had the shrimp which were awesome as well. Hush puppies, cornbread, and macaroni were good. Nothing special but there. I put 4 stars because we sat at our table for 15 minutes before a waitress asked if she could get us a drink. We were gonna walk out but she walked up just as we thought to leave.

Reservations for 6 at 5:30pm. Sat at 5:40. Ordered drinks and no appetizers. Drinks were out fast and then ordered 2 chicken salads, fried crab claws, fried oysters, kids chicken tenders and grilled tilapia. Waited an hour after telling the waitress we were in a hurry and left. Extremely disappointed and hungry now.

This is how I originally started my review: The name drew me in, the history of the name kept me interested(check the back of the menu), but the food left me with a smile. I tried the jalapeño corn bread and fried pickles, they aren’t my thing. Moved onto the pickled onions; yum, interesting flavor. Finally onto the entrée of the day, fried crawfish with hush puppies. I was surprised to find the crawfish as a bit bland but the hush puppies were good. This is how I revised my review in the past 2 days: I’ve been sick as a dog thanks to some questionable food. Ug, I can’t believe this. I’ve spent more time in the bathroom then at the table eating it. Never again. Walk away from the cock…

I returned to one of my favorite places with a colleague and I believe he was also amazed at everything. What makes this review different and worth reading is some clarity. First of all just because Georgia is minutes away — doesn’t mean Georgia and Alabama are in the same time zone. This place opens at 6:00PM Georgia time — lesson learned. Next — I cannot stress this enough — you WILL get more then you can possibly eat at this place and you will be disappointed that you do not have a larger capacity to store the food in! We ordered the fried pickles and rings as an appetizer and both were good. I can’t say as I’m a fan of friend pickles, but they were unusual for this Yankee! I also ordered the«Red Feather», which is offered friend or grilled — I chose grilled. It comes with a piece of tasty fish, shrimp and boneless chicken breast. I have to admit — the chicken was just on this side of being a bit dry, but still tasty — everything else was great. The meal came with a «Kickbutt» coleslaw — and might be my favorite all time slaw now. Also — a couple of those round balls — let me see — what are they called — hushpuppies yes — I don’t think they are good for yall, but they sure are as tasty as all hell. And the meal with a fresh tossed salad with dressing on the side and a pan full of corn bread — with corn in it and no wonder I am a fan of this place. Now — the kicker for me is the entertainment — better then a band or lounge singer by far — the turtles — hundreds of them, the geese with their youngins and the occasional fish or duck that swims by are amazing. Though you can throw in just about anything and watch them scramble to get to it — it’s best to buy some turtle food — it’s only 25 cents a bag and is MUCH better then anything else — please think of their health too! Finally — stop by and say hello to the cock — it’s the most beautiful cock you will see and it’s partner is there as well — why male birds are so much prettier then the females is beyond me, but do check this pair out! Even though the food isn’t 5 stars — I give this place 5 stars because they get extra points for the turtle pond!

This restaurant is in Opelika, Alabama. Need I say more? For the readers, I will provide my usual review. The restaurant can hold large parties, and has adequate space for parking. The servers are nice and there is no waiting to get seated. The restaurant is large enough to fill the entire town, or should I say the town is small enough that they can fit into this restaurant. Appetizer: Fried Dill Pickle… It was sliced up dill pickle fried to give you hyper tension and heart attack in the near future. It was the ordinary fried pickles, and nothing special about it. Fried Crawfish… it was good. It reminded me of Papadeux’s fried crawfish, and it was seasoned well. I enjoyed this appetizer quite a bit. It wasn’t too salty or overly fried with massive batters. Bucket of Coleslaw… wasn’t sure if this was an appetizer or they just give you a bucket of cole slaw to fill your stomach with… Cornbread… ehhh… I had better. The cornbread’s texture was a bit rough… meaning it was dry, but the outside was greasy. Obviously, this restaurant does not know how to bake cornbread even though it champions itself as a southern cuisine place. Entrée: I asked for Filet Mignon with Shrimp(Surf and Turf)… They ran out of Filet… this tells me two things: 1. Poor management by the culinary manager in the back 2. The restaurant does not have a lot of experience with steaks So instead, I ordered a rib eye with shrimp and my steak did not come out medium. It came out well done. I was not going to ask for a new one, and I just ate it. I was already bummed out as it is that I couldn’t try the filet. The rib eye was just a rib eye. It was nothing special. The shrimp was grilled, but soggy at the same time. It’s because my dish came out in a metal bowl which traps all the heat and liquid. The juices from the steak trickled over to my shrimp… making it wet like gumbo. This is the other thing, the dishes here come out in metal bowls. The restaurant is not too smart about this. Basic culinary chemistry… you cook your meat and place it on a metal bowl… it’s going to continue to cook more… and more… hence the well done meat I had. Catfish was eh… The one I had was blackened, and it was meh. I had much better. It wasn’t blacked like I expected. It didn’t have a kick nor a large flavor that comes with blacked fish. Additionally, I expected more since they advertise about their catfish a lot. The blackened was not done well, meaning, it was not seasoned well with ideal ingredients to give that traditional blackened taste to it. I could taste a lot of salt in the fish that the chef placed before cooking the fish. Normally, you want to place the salt into the fish after it’s been cooked, so that you don’t drench it with salt to season it. When you cook with the salt prior to cooking it, the salt dissolves, hence requiring a lot more. The cook did that… and I could tell from just eating it. Dessert: I was not tempted to try any dessert here. Side Note: The restaurant charges you more for grilled food. You get two options: Fried or Grilled. When the restaurant is charging me more for grilled food, you know something is not right. It makes a lot of people order the fried food here, and honestly, I feel like the restaurant is doing that to cover up the terrible ingredients. When you fry food, it’s easier to cover up a lot of bad quality ingredients.

When do you ever go to a restaurant where you see live peacocks and turtles just hanging around? Get your cameras out because this feels like half-restaurant and half-zoo. You can purchase feed inside to give to them. The actual restaurant feels like someone’s wooden barn somewhere in the country. I ordered the $ 14 half-fried catfish and half-grilled catfish just to have the best of both worlds. The grilled is way better than the fried. Hush puppies are good. I thought it was hilarious that the waitress admitted to me that she had to put the baked potato in the microwave to heat it up faster.

This place is amazing. If you love taxidermy, turtles, peacocks, goslings. .. and half of those around you as you enjoy a meal of fried foods. When you walk up to cock of the walk, there is a peacock and peahen to greet you along your path. As you wait for a table, make sure to take advantage of the wrap around deck that overlooks the turtle pond — where there are possibly hundreds of turtles interested in handouts. The interior of this place is all dark-ish wood, kind of of cracker barrel-esque, and filled with fur pelts, hog heads, and taxidermy. The food itself is served on tincups and plates, and you get a ridiculous amount of it. Don’t eat meat? That’s okay, because the majority of the food — albeit fried– is vegetables. The fried pickles(if you haven’t tried them, I suggest) were a little bit salty that night, but reheated great in the oven– unsalty and crispy the next day! There is a «grilled» option, for those of you on a diet. But, since this is a «southern cooking» style place, I recommend you go all in for the heart attack. I split the entrée of catfish filets and an appetizer of fried pickles — the entrees come with a skillet of cornbread, delightful coleslaw(which I normally find gross), and pickled onions. This was more than enough for two — moderate eating females to enjoy for dinner and breakfast the next day. We both got drinks and this came to a whopping total of $ 24. I took my cousin — visiting from out of town — here. I suggest this place as an adventure for non-southerners…but not necessarily for a sexy date(or any date. .). We saw one date couple and this finely dressed female looked very upset at either her date(bro’d out) or the choice of restaurant or possible both. There is seating(and were alot of) large tables with small children. Turtles are probably the main draw. I wouldn’t expect to wine and dine someone there — as it’s kind of loud, fast paced, and did I mention the country curtains? Those drape the windows overlooking the pond!

Cute place. Be sure to check out the pond. Food was pretty good and service was great. Ate with a large group and not everyone was impressed. I had the baked catfish which was very good. The fried pickles left much to be desired. Some had them before elsewhere and didn’t like that no special sauces were served. Menu is heavy on the fried and does offer chicken in addition to seafood. Unilocal calls this a BBQ place, but BBQ isn’t on the menu.

A great dinner with an county environment. As you walk to the door you are greater by the 2 peacocks and are surrounded by animals the whole time(mostly stuffed). It is set up in a riverboat theme so much so you eat on tin plates and drink from tin cups. It is also very family friendly with a lake out back with ducks, fish, and turtles for the whole family to feed. The food is great. After your order you are shortly greeted with slaw, jalapeño cornbread, and pickled onions. Catfish is their main dish, but they also have chicken, shrimp, crap claws, and even a country fired steak. The service is great(go before it gets busy and they might flip your cornbread). I would recommend stopping by for dinner if your ever in the area.
