(Dec 2015) Only ok. Heard rave reviews for years from family, so maybe we hit a dud? The sandwiches were good, but nothing special. $ 8.50 — decent price. Bought Neahwa & Rhode Island Deli Hot. Asked counter person if RI Hot was a hot/heated sandwich. She said yes and pointed out others that came hot.(Menu says«served hot.»). My expectation was a panini style sandwich. Got it home and it was ordinary white bread – not grilled, not toasted???(A mistake?) Meat piled all in the middle. Good ham, fresh, but just ok. «Free» pasta salad included with all orders fell short too. :( Neahwa: essentially a BLT with turkey & ham added… but only one sad, little piece of soft bacon in the whole thing. ??? Hmm. And LOTS of leaf lettuce. Assuming this was a bad day for them we will try again for a 2nd shot, but not in any rush. Stark, open restaurant design. Simple. Clean. The place stays busy and had most tables filled, so they must be doing something right. Loved the extensive, well-stocked bottled drink coolers – excellent marketing choice. Adds interest and the feeling of abundance as well as appealing to a wide range of tastes. Kudos. The online menu via iPhone shows beautifully. Nice detail on each menu item; thorough. Basic pricing structure on food items makes ordering easy.

Why would you put a hot chicken Parm sandwich on untoasted rye bread? Soggy and inedible, and chicken was relatively bland. Two stars is only for the pasta salad.

Always a fan of this place while visiting Oneonta! The service got a bit confused this week but it was probably my own fault! Will most def be back again!

The Mrs Eggplant sandwich was the most amazing vegetable sandwich I’ve ever had and whoever created that culinary wonder should receive an award. The pasta salad had no flavor other than sugar though. I’d give them 5 stars if it wasn’t for that and the steep price for the kids ham sandwich($ 9). If I’m ever in the area again, no question I’d stop for me, but grab something else for the kids.

I work near Undercover Eggplant, so we order from there rather frequently when lunchtime rolls around. Today I tried the Little Freddie’s Salad. It consisted of mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, red onion, shredded red cabbage, shredded carrot, Genoa salami, grilled chicken, Italian olives, artichoke hearts and mozzarella cheese. I chose the balsamic vinaigrette to top it off. The salad normally includes mushrooms and bleu cheese, but I don’t care for them and ordered my salad without. The salad costs $ 9.50 and you can see from my pictures it is a decent size. Everything was fresh. I would have expected a little more meat for the price(there were just a couple pieces of chicken tucked under the salami). There was a ton of greens. The salad was very good, as was the dressing. Just a little pricey, in my opinion.

A great place! The meatball sandwich will not disappoint. The drink selection rivals 7 – 11! A must stop when I’m in town.

I dream about their Mrs. Eggplant sandwich. Fresh food, helpful service, huge selection of teas and sodas, and of course: sandwiches! They have a nice array of salads and desserts in the fridges. Clean! Wonderful place, I stop in as often as possible.

This place is the best thing to happen to Oneonta in a while. The food is always fresh, delicious and prompt. The salads are always MORE than generous and can actually take a couple meals to finish so take that baby home! Their own desserts are stored in the fridge and the bread pudding is absolutely delicious! They also have a huge variety of different bottled drinks. Parking is also available right outside the restaurant.

I love Undercover Eggplant! I usually get the eggplant special and have no complaints. The bread tastes amazing and is very soft, the lettuce, onion and tomato taste very fresh, and the eggplant, provolone cheese, and pesto mayo combo gets my mouth juicing. They redid their restaurant so there’s a lot more room now. before the line would be out the door! Big portions and incredible food. Can’t go wrong here. I’ve never had their pizza before but the salads are huge and satisfying.

Had the Oneonta Reuben. Breaded chicken cutlet, melted Swiss cheese, coleslaw & spicy mayo. Super sandwich. A real value!

They win in the category of best deli in Oneonta. Their homemade bread is to die for and it is used to great effect in their scrumptious sandwiches. They have an excellent selection of sodas. The homemade Italian pretzels are big and soft pieces of heaven, but they usually sell out early so get them before noon.

I have not been there in a few years until last week but remembered the sandwiches being good. It seems to me they really increased the size of the sandwiches from a few years back. I got Maria’s Muffaletta(an Italian style sandwich) and it was big with plenty of meat and delicious! I like the fact that the sandwiches are unique and the bread is too. I can’t remember exactly what I paid but it was worth it. Give this place a try!

Considering the name of the shop, of the sandwiches I’ve tried, the eggplant special was the most disappointing. You can’t go wrong with the one stop or the po boy though. The sandwiches are huge and come with a generous serving of what appears to be homemade pasta salad.

Aubergine, je t’aime, je t’aime. One day perhaps I’ll live nearer to my family, living a life that more closely resembles what’s been proffered as ideal. An unattainable ideal, perhaps, an insidious construction made only by those who profit from my attempts to comply. And the harder I try the farther short I seem to come up, which makes me only try all the harder. My hours and wages are wasted chasing somebody else’s dream. I wax like this because of the magical spell I ate yesterday at the Eggplant. Clarity came to me between two slices of housemade bread, truth tucked between the slices of delicate deli meat in the Toasty Italian, beauty nestled in the pastrami and pickle sandwich. I kid you not. Come here for the food(and you should not just because I say so and I know what I’m talking about but because simply these guys make insanely good food period) and you’ll find upon leaving that the smile on your face is three dimensions long. The first two are because your mouth is happy beyond words how long has it been since it was pleasured with such sweetness but the third, a dimension maybe you haven’t felt for awhile, the smile vector rarely seen, ties to your mortal purpose. The curtains will be swept aside. You’ll discard your commercially manipulated self. You’ll catch a glimpse for the first time maybe ever that the ring you’ve been reaching for truly does recede each and every time you stretch out your grabby hands and maybe it was all a cruel joke after all and now you’re free. So go get you some incognito aubergine goodness. Then go get the rest of your life on.

I no longer live in the area, but when I come back to visit I always make a point to grab a lunch here. Incredible sandwiches here. On top of their great standard menu(of which my personal favorite is the Eggplant Special), they always have 5 or 6 specials to keep it interesting(all are served on their homemade Italian bread). Overall, this place never disappoints. (Oh, and if they’re not sold out already, make sure to grab one of their homemade pretzels.)

I definitely love eggplant, so when I first drove by Undercover Eggplant, I had to try it. They sell mostly sandwiches. I think 3 or 4 of the sandwiches feature eggplant and I approve of all. They also feature sandwiches with deli meats, cheeses, sausages, etc. All of the ingredients are fresh. The bread makes the sandwiches awesome. They use huge slices from nice crusty round loaves. Most likely, a whole sandwich will be too big for you and you will take ½ home with you. Pasta salad comes w/the sandwiches. Tons of nice sodas/drinks to choose from — this is the type of feature that I love in a sandwich shop. I haven’t tried a pizza, but from the looks of the couple’s sitting next to us, it looked much better than the other pies I’ve tried in the area.

Fresh baked bread with mouth-watering deli meats and delicious pickles. These sandwiches are the best I have tasted. EVER. The New-York Pastrami sandwich and the Roast Beef sandwiches are amazing. The sides are pretty good and the assortment of drinks for sale includes some unique finds(like Grown Up Soda). It’s a bit off the beaten path from central Oneonta, but it’s worth the trip. The eat-in atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but I told everyone I knew how amazing the sandwiches were when I took my first bite. This is already a local favorite of mine and I’ve only lived here three weeks!
