This shop has books and coffee. Heaven on earth. This place has a mission, but wears it lightly. Affiliated with a church, and home to services and other spiritual and philosophical events, it was mostly empty on my weekday morning visit. The gentleman who made my drink was the leader of the community, and very ready to engage in conversation. This is not to say that the experience here is preachy or proselytizing, quite the opposite. In fact, one of the children’s books for sale was the one about two male penguins hatching an egg and raising the chick(oh my! – George Takei). There is a small selection of best-sellers, an interesting curation. The rest of the books are spiritual in nature, with a numbers bias toward Christianity. The space is brightly lit by large windows and provides ample seating of a good variety. The bathroom was out the hall a ways, but there is one. My latte was competently made. Come here for a place to shop a specific niche area of books, do some work with a coffee, or to attend and event.

I think A-OK is probably the right call for this place based on my experience. I had seen it before and decided to stop in today for a cup of coffee. The place itself is very nice, plenty of seating and lots of books. I can see it being a great place to get some reading or work done, if you like to go to coffee shops for those things. They have a good selection of muffins and other baked goods, which I didn’t try. I’m trying to watch my figure! I am only going with three stars because the coffee was only average and when you are a coffee shop, that’s what you get judged on at the end of the day. The lady working the counter was very sweet, it just wasn’t a great cup of joe. I probably would stop in again if in the area for something but I doubt I will make any special trips.

Terrific coffee but the kicker up to five is that it’s a church run nonprofit that uses revenues for many humanitarian causes, nice people. No preaching :)

Went in here today to grab a coffee passing through town. The vibe is very nice and as a Jew/atheist I was excited and open to a Christian bookstore and wanted to sit and enjoy nonjudgementally. The barista, asking my fiancé and I about our cross country road trip, said«ah, man, you’re only visiting liberal cities!» Which is a gross thing to say when you’re not talking about politics and you don’t know who you’re talking too. The coffee was sour and crappy. I got an iced Americano, pretty easy. He put a cold drink in a hot only paper cup so in 10 minutes it was soaking through, plus he let the espresso sit so it burned itself before it touched the ice. Bad experience. Go somewhere more professional.

I just adore this place. I was a bit of a hippie in the late 60’s & early 70’s, and the one thing I do miss most about those times was the feeling of peace and warmth and spirituality that would wash over me in certain blissful settings. I feel as if I recapture some of that peacefulness when I relax with a good book and a cup of tea here. I know the selection isn’t what you would find at B & N, but the vibe is on point, and that is hard to find. Peace :-)

Nice, quiet place to get some decent coffee. Brighter and more colorful than the standard coffee house. Good for studying.

Amazing coffee. Worth the price paid for the experience of an amazing cup of Joe. The atmosphere is quiet and inviting, java-heads should check this place out if you atop into the Old Market area in Omaha.

If I lived in Omaha, this would be my spot. While visiting I came in for coffee, wifi, and checked out the books. What wonderful people and an overall wonderful experience. Fully equipped with outlets and tables + chairs. Check it out!

I loved the tea and coffee here… .the tea was actually so great I ended up buying a box set! The atmosphere was super welcoming. Everyone there was full of smiles. There were several tables strewn about that welcomed not only people wanting to study or to work, but for quiet conversation. The only reason I’m not giving this place more than three stars is that the selection of books was pretty limited. Yes, I know it’s a spiritual bookstore, and hence, the books are limited to that genre. But still. I’d get more out of it if I could buy a book or two. :) Regardless of the array of books they carry, I really do like this little spot. Check it out if you’re out and about.

Such a cute coffee shop! Such a homey feeling upon entering, the décor is fun including the furniture. Part of the space is a bookstore with cool gifts to buy. Great natural lighting especially when I visited on a Monday afternoon in December as the sunlight filled the room. Lots of space to study or do work. I think it’s also a great place for a date or light conversation. The coffee smelled good but I didn’t get a drink because I’m not into coffee. However, I indulged in their fair trade chocolate, which was fair price and tasty. Restrooms were clean, friendly staff, what more can I ask for?!

Easily my favorite coffee shop in Omaha. There are several things you simply cannot beat about it: Mission: Affiliated with a church, they are a non-profit coffee house that uses parts of their proceeds to benefit local Omaha charities. Though the place is explicitly religious, I have never felt unwelcome or pressured by the employees or members of their religious group to attend their services beyond one simple invitation when I first visited. Product: The coffee is Beansmith which is delicious and high quality AND it’s for a great cause. They also have small plates of desserts and lunch-type items that are homemade donations to their charitable cause. They have all the beverages you’d expect at a good coffee house from the simple brews to the frozen coffee concoctions. Atmosphere: Bright, airy, surrounded by books, and welcoming. You don’t feel rushed or hurried. Price: Affordable! Service: Super friendly and personable. You’ll probably makes friends with the employees in no time. If you’re in the Old Market and you’re thinking of getting a coffee, give Urban Abbey a try!

This shop is great for coffee. The staff is awesome and the coffee is also delicious. The building is very bright and perfect for studying or meeting friends. I also enjoyed how open the shop was compared to other coffee shops. The great thing about this shop is the community involvement that they focus on, while it’s a business their focus is on the people of Omaha not on the next dollar.

The place was quiet, probably a good place to study but beyond that it doesn’t have much going for it. There is definitely a hyper-religious crowd that puts effort into making outsiders, even those minding their own business, feel unwelcome.

A friend of mine, who lives in Omaha, told me about this place, since it as her favorite spot to get coffee from. I would always compare small coffee shops to the mega Starbucks and Urban Abbey was a pleasant surprise. It felt like a Starbucks, but in a more earthly, mom and pop environment too. Located in downtown Omaha, I was here after getting lunch @ the Wheatfields restaurant in the Old Market area. I was in Omaha to run the 2012 Omaha Marathon and it was a good weekend. Urban Abbey didn’t foot the bill as a premium coffee outlet, but the ambiance was almost prefect, yet subtle. The service I recorded was above averag, instead of the usual drone of Starbucks in my daily life. They have places to sit down to enjoy your drink. They also have a display case filled with sweets, which a portion of the proceeds are donated to charity. I bought a mint brownie and it as good! Recommended! The service was wonderful and I would totally come back to Omaha and visit this plac again. They also have a mini book store in the back, so that is a pleasant surprise. Sort of like your Barnes and Nobles in a way. There is parking adjacent to the building, so you can hop in and out of your car at your leisure. This plac makes me smile. I tried their Ethiopian roast and its different than Starbucks’ dark roast. Support local! B+
