Bringing delicious, unbeatable regional authenticity to one of Omaha’s hippest areas. Mula is a gem for Midtown. Their fresh and high quality food has us always returning!

3 stars today because his place is usually great — today the food was cold and the drinks were warm… So sad cause I hear the brunch is great on Sunday and not today.

Great place for happy hour. Their margaritas are the best! I liked the rolled tacos or the carnitas! Their guacamole is also super delicious!

Lay off me! I was hungry! Taco Tuesday gave me another view of this otherwise expensive taco joint. I had one of each $ 2 taco, some great guac, and some weirdly good bowl of corn! If you’re playing Big O! Bocce in Midtown its okay to skip Cantina and walk down to Mula because it gives you a reason to stop at Crescent Moon to see Bob on the way back! An even better combo than the other mass produced deals at any of the Midtown establishments on Bocce night. They might have to step up their game before Mula gets smart and adds a cheap beer special to go with the tacos!

I heard by word of mouth that Mula had«the best Mexican food ever.» I had to check it out. It is a little off my beaten path but worth the trip to the Blackstone District. I had the Camaron tacos and don’t forget the Mula margarita. The tacos were delicious and the margarita seemed simple and understated(the food is a foodie delight) until I stood up! Don’t forget the guacamole! Interesting use of textures and tastes to keep you coming back for more. Oh– did I mention affordable? Mucho gracias! Ambiance is a plus++ and no wi-fi. Lets enjoy food and conversation! Well done!

Came in on Taco Tuesday and was not disappointed. Really tasty tacos, pineapple salsa, chicharrón(pork rind) guacamole and a serving of 1800 tequila($ 3 on special!) made for an excellent meal. The staff was very friendly, knowledgable and ready to answer any questions. Definitely check this place out.

There are two kinds of mexican restaurants abroad. Those who claim to have mexican food and they only offer a weird overstated variety of tacos, that have nothing to do with real tacos… and those who show respect for true mexican cuisine. Mula is the second kind. Of course, you will find chips and salsa(so a lot of people can go nuts!). But you´ll find also a nice selection of mexican dishes. Some of them have a «street» flair, like tortas(a specific kind of sandwich). They are well served and delicious. The entrees are nice. Try the rolled tacos and the sope. They´re good! But also, they have this selection of nice mexican dishes… Those that need to be cooked for hours, so the flavor of the ingredients slowly mix. Those that remind you eating in your grandma´s house. Those that many americans have yet to try. like the Mixiote. Some of the original recipes have been modified, but in a really nice way. If this isn´t enough yet, they carry a nice selection of tequilas, mezcales and sodas. You can find Jarritos de Tamarindo! They have a happy hour, so you can try different drinks, at a reduced price. I was surprised to have a nice mezcal with sal de gusano. Delicious! Be careful. It´s easy to lose control of your budget in this place. Mezcales aren´t exactly cheap. You´ll have a decent dinner in this place for 20 dlls pax. BUT, a mezcal shot is around 15 dlls. Anyway, it´s worth it. You´ll end up satisfied, rubbing your belly, and feeling sexy. ;)

To preface, a little background: As a youth, I had a distaste for(what I thought was) Mexican food. My best friend loved the neighborhood taco place and would try to wheedle me into going there. I would sigh and concede, secretly wishing we were eating something else. I carried this belief into my adult days. My heart softened towards Mexican food when I began eating less meat, realizing the beauty of beans and rice and how truly comforting a cheese quesadilla could be. But then… One day I was invited to dine at Mula. I walked in and immediately noticed the décor. Bright colors, gorgeous light fixtures, and well-organized seating. I was aesthetically pleased. The bartender seated us and gave us happy hour and regular menus. Now, I have an appreciation for a well-thought-out menu, and Mula’s is just that. The flavor profiles of the dishes echo but do not repeat each other, making for a delightfully cohesive experience. I began to smile. I smiled even larger when I noticed that all tortillas are made in-house with non-GMO corn. The bartender soon returned and began telling us about Mula’s cocktails. His passion and expertise came through, and I enjoyed listening. He courteously answered our questions about different selections. I ended up ordering the Jalepeño Business. I will sum up my experience in five words: «My favorite drink I’ve ever had.» Never have I had a beverage so simultaneously delicious, refreshing, and unique.(Aside: It would be great to have this be a part of the happy hour menu) I began to get even more excited about the food. If the drinks are this good, what else could be in store? We ordered a smattering of items off of the happy hour menu, including: * Dulce y Picante * Smoked Esquites * Rice & Beans * The special at the time, which was a creamy poblano soup(Would love to see this join the regular menu!) My, my, my. Where do I begin? I could describe each individual item, but let me just tell you in one hyphenated word: Life-changing. I was so inspired by the esquites and the dulce y picante(guac with mango and pickled red onion) that I made my own versions for a friend’s birthday party. Also, they have really great chips. Epilogue: I left the restaurant happy and full, and I had a revelation: I really, really like Mexican food. Since then I have returned to Mula and tried several more dishes and drinks. I can especially vouch for: * Margarita * White sangria(Wonderful) * Tomatillo salsa * Several of their tequila selections Do yourself a favor and go to Mula. Go for happy hour and have a drink and some chips. Go for dinner. Go for lunch. And if you think you don’t like Mexican food, remember this: You don’t know until you’ve had Mula.

Why let the weekend stop on Sunday?! Mula had a brunch like no other restaurant in Omaha. The hip crowd looking for a great drink complimented by wonderful selection of food is a great way to keep Sunday– Funday rolling! The live DJ really brings up the volume(literally) in the restaurant. Adiós Felicia is a beverage with champagne, fresh orange juice, and a strawberry infused with tequila — refreshing and delightful! Looking to enhance your Sunday, come to Mula! Service was below average but I know it will improve with one or two more brunch runs. Mix of wait staff dancing and partying but needing to serve their clients can improve.

I went here on a Friday night and it was very busy which is great. I’m glad it’s doing well. We had a reservation but still waited 30 minutes to be seated — but I didn’t mind really because it was busy and I wasn’t in a hurry. I got a red sangria, chicken Tinga tacos, and house guacamole. The Sangria was great, but very expensive. The guacamole was very good — simple by excellent. The tacos were fine. I think it’s a pretty inexpensive place for the most part and their happy hour and taco Tuesday are competitive. The atmosphere is pretty cool. Nice space and cool décor. The music was wayyyyy too loud and it was pretty dark, but it didn’t bother me. It’s definitely unique to Omaha but some people in my party were displeased. I give two stars because the service was absolutely horrendous. I mean it was pathetic. Everyone in our party was atleast annoyed and some of us were pissed. Our waiter actually LEFT after taking more than half of the orders and was gone for a full 15 minutes until I flagged him down. Granted, we had a large party and it was busy, but if a place can’t handle serving a table of 9… then I guess don’t take the reservation. The waiter also was sort of a smart ass to one of the people in our party which was unwarranted because we were very patient with him. The food came out really fast because they ring up the orders on an iPad. That was pretty cool. However it honestly took an hour from the time I sat down to even order my food, but only about 10 – 12 mins for the food to come out. Our reservation was at 7:30, we didn’t sit until 8, and I didn’t get my check until 9:50. That’s ridiculous. My suggestion is to go for happy hour or for dinner during the week. They probably shouldn’t even take reservations because of how poorly their service is executed. I mean we ended up waiting as long or longer than most of the walk-ins. I’ll be back, but it certainly won’t be with a big party and it won’t be for dinner in a weekend. They missed out on atleast $ 30 more from me alone that I would have spent on drinks had my waiter not been so incompetent.

Got the Baja Fish Tacos, Horchata, and Churros.(I was treatin’ myself.) The Baja fish tacos were prettier than they tasted. They were sort of bland and nothing special. The horchata was good, but could get better in South O. And the Churros weren’t big and fluffy the way churros are supposed to be also they’re hard to eat with the chocolate sauce they give you. Also, the table we sat at was a really flimsy high table, and 5’2″ almost ate shit and threw it onto the floor trying to get down. Whoops. Also, our waiter definitely forgot about us after he sat us. We waited for about 15 min before we got menus, and the place isn’t that big.

Top quality Mexican in Omaha! This is definitely true good food and top quality beverages. I have heard mixed reviews since I moved from Texas. I now think people are expecting Mula to be Tex-Mex which it isn’t and it shouldn’t be. If you want greasy cheap food go somewhere else because this is good stuff. First of all Monday is happy hour all day! Score. I started with the $ 5 Guac of the day which was Parilla, a blend of guac, bacon, corn and jalapeño for a smokey goodness. I had a Mula Marg which was fresh and very good. I then ordered the Cochinita Tacos which was a very good set of 3. I also tried a special cocktail called El Diabolito which was a smokey mescal masterpiece. My only suggestion for this place is to let guests mix up the 3 tacos to try more flavors. They could just also offer a mixed set of 3 on the menu. It doesn’t cause any more work for the kitchen. Definitely going back and looking forward to their new brunch.

Mula recently offered a tequila tasting 101 course which I attended. It was hosted by the owner Michael and Will from Unilocal.I got there an hour before the tasting so I could dine in and get a little something in my belly before consuming liquor. Since I slid in the door before happy hour ended, I ordered from the HH menu. This time, I tried the rolled tacos(served with chicken only, and reminded me of a taquito), Smoked Esquites(smoky/spicyyyy corn in a bottle), Paletas(meatballs and rice), and the house salsa and guac with a white sangria. My server was especially helpful in decoding the menu, as the dishes are listed in Spanish with no descriptions of what it is. I was pleased with the service and food I received at at this past visit. After having dinner, I joined the rest of the gang for the tasting. Michael said that he offers tastings occasionally when the interest is met, and can also do private events if you are interested. I also got a bit of background on the restaurant and Michael’s history in the industry as a restaurant owner and tequila connoisseur. Mula is trying to be something different in an already explored food niche in Omaha. We have the amazing«street» and homey food of South Omaha, and the more westernized«tex-mex» version in West Omaha, but what Michael is trying to do is bring that street food into the modern food culture. As he remarks, the food industry in Mexico is becoming much like the food movement in America– to locally source, to add influence of modern fine dining, and to keep to the roots at the same time. This explanation was pretty mind opening to me, and I really enjoyed his take on Mexican food in Omaha. After meeting him, I am a lot more inclined to dine at Mula more often. Sometimes getting some background on the owner and concept is all you need to understand a business and want to support it. If you’re interested in my tequila 101 review:

I went in wanting to like this place oh-so-much. The ambiance is really pleasant and inviting with low light and hanging lanterns, and it’s quiet enough to have a conversation. The service is also good. We went with some friends to have happy hour drinks and food. The beers were a dollar off, and tacos were $ 2 all night. But only some of the tacos. And some of those tacos were unavailable. K, whatever. We got an order of guacamole and the salsa of the day for the table. The guacamole was great and amped up my expectations, while the salsa was decent enough to not detract from my expectations. In hindsight, though, salsa should be the first thing a Mexican restaurant should have locked down. Well, good thing the tacos were only $ 2 because I wouldn’t have wanted to pay anymore then that. There are a lot of places that charge roughly the same for a superior taco, happy hour or not. The pastor was mushy and devoid of flavor, the black bean was saved only by its accompanying crema, and the Baja fish was like a Filet-O-Fish with coleslaw. Ultimately, I’m not writing this place off. I’d like to come back and try the jackfruit taco(they were out of it that evening) as well as their cocktails. I think this is a place that still hasn’t quite found its footing, but until then, there’s excellent guacamole and drinks.

My daughter and I visited Mula tonight. My first time, she’s been there a number of times with her husband and friends. Great location, very nice ambiance. Cool lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling and tin can luminaria on the table. We split an order of chilaquilles, some of the guac of the day(dulce and picante), smoked esquites, albondiges, and rolled tacos. The chilaquiles were great! Enough to share between two people. Flavorful and delicious. Just a bit of a kick of heat at the end. The guac, tasty and unique with hints of sweetness and spice. Smoked esquites… I didn’t know what it was so we Googled it. It’s a smoked corn salad served in a little jar. When we opened the jar, the smoke came out and it smelled just like a campfire. I can see why these would be very popular. However, for $ 3(happy hour pricing) it was a very small serving. After all that, I was still a little hungry so we ordered the albondigas and rolled tacos. The albondigas were good, but nothing really that special. In case you’re just about to Google albondigas, they’re meatballs. We got two and and a similarly sized scoop of rice. Meh. The rolled tacos though… damn…those things are delicious! Again, we got the happy hour size and price. Three of them for $ 5, I believe. Really wonderful flavor. I added some heat with the provided green sauce to kick it up just a bit. I would definitely come back just for the chilaquiles and rolled tacos. I’m seriously starting to drool just thinking about those again. Get there and give them a try.

Taco Tuesday means 5 out of the 8 tacos on the menu are $ 2. So as I sipped a Victoria, I decided to try all five! My favorites were the fish(it came topped with slaw), and Cochinita pork… But all were excellent. The jackfruit was a delicious change of pace. I’ll come back on another night and do the other three tacos sometime. The chips her are not complimentary, which is fine by me. They are thick and crunchy. The roasted salsa I got was delicious. I ate the whole basket. That says all you need to know. Service was a bit slow at the bar, but the bartenders were very busy.

Delicious, upscale Mexican with prices to match(they do have a great happy hour for the budget-conscious, though). First off, it’s hard to beat the location and atmosphere — in the heart of Blackstone right on the corner of 40th and Farnam. This neighborhood has changed by leaps in bounds just in the last year, thanks largely to local businesses like Mula moving in to a once dilapidated area of Midtown Omaha. Step inside, and you’ll find an open, modern atmosphere housed inside the brown brick of the exterior. You’ll also find a few rustic touches with(what at least appears to be) reclaimed wood and miss-matched thrift store plates. Now on to the food. I tried the jackfruit and carnitas tacos. It’s really hard to compare the two, as they are for different audiences; I guess you could call me a sometimes-vegetarian like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The carnitas tacos were simple and delicious. The slow-cooked verde pork was juicy and went well with the house salsa. I can see why some patrons desire a bit more from these, as they are pretty small. And $ 10 for three won’t fill you up. But the quality was definitely there. The jackfruit tacos had a little more bulk to them and were mixed in with pineapple — citrusy and sweet. I also tried the house guacamole, which was excellent. I had a bite of a jackfruit torta, which I preferred to the jackfruit tacos. The house durros were also hard to stop munching on. There’s plenty more to the menu I’d like to explore, including their extensive cocktail menu. Overall, a great spot for a upscale-yet-casual dining experience in Omaha.

I will start with 3 stars and go back to get a better feel of this place. I came in for lunch and was seated quickly and checked on many times. I should be going with 4 stars, but the price point is what is holding them down. $ 9 for 3 tacos is actually a great price. Th Jackfruit(think pulled pork, but for vegans) al Pastor were pretty good. the flavor was drowned out for me by the corn shells. Not doubled up like other more traditional places and yet the made it seem bland. for me the star was the Jackfruit Torta. It had great flavor and a decent size. At $ 8 I would be ok, but at $ 9.50 it was a tad high. I would like to see an option for flour shells and flour or mixed chips and that would make it way more worth it. As it stands I will go back, but probably during taco Tuesday or when it is more affordable

LOVE Mula’s HH. By far one of the best margaritas I’ve had in a while and the sope always hits the spot. I always wish the tacos were a wee bit bigger so I could have more of the flavors, but worth the trip for Taco Tuesday($ 2). Nice location in an up and coming section of midtown, Mula keeps me coming back.
