One of my favorite parts of Omaha, the Blackstone District has the old feel of a historic area but a new feel with up and coming local businesses. From places like Archetype(coffee), Mula(Mexican), Scriptown(microbrewery), Sullivan’s, Night Owl and Corkscrew(wine & small plates) to Pulp(cool gifts), Kleveland Clothing(boutique), Bouquet(flowers) and Surly Chap(barber shop) it has much to offer in Midtown. With more plans and revitalization on the way at points east of 39th street in the near future, Blackstone will become even better!

I can’t say enough great things about the Blackstone District! It runs along Farnam Street from 42nd to about 35th. The amount of development in this area over the past year and a half has been HUGE! With the addition of places like Archetype, Scriptown, Noli’s, Mula, Nite Owl, and Farnam House you are never far from a great place to eat or drink. In terms of shopping, Kleveland Clothing is awesome! If you are looking for a bike or for bike repair, the folks at Dundee Cycle are outstanding! Take a break from Downtown and Benson, and come hang out in Blackstone! It doesn’t get much better than this in Omaha!

There’s a lot to be said about this burgeoning neighborhood. After decades of suburban flight, pushing a flood of cars from downtown to the suburbs along Farnam Street, the Blackstone neighborhood slowly faded into a nondescript area of midtown Omaha vaguely keeping its identity solely thanks to its namesake building. But something happened a few years ago when small business owners in the neighborhood came together with a vision to bring the Farnam Street corridor from Midtown Crossing to the medical center into a destination for the entire city. Street festivals were held. Meetings with city planners were had. Eventually, Farnam was made a two way street from 30th all the way to 42nd, making the Blackstone District a place to stop, walk about and enjoy one of the many new and unique local businesses that now call the area home(with many more sure to come in the next couple of years). And this is just the beginning. Expect more empty lots to be turned into mixed-use retail and apartments. Expect top notch transportation to and from the area when the BRT(and possibly light rail) begin serving Blackstone in a few years. This gives hope to other historic corridors of Omaha that are blighted and boarded up. Caring for the core of a city is what helps establish and promote a shared identity among its citizens — something that’s vital making people who call Omaha home more proud than ever of our fair city on the plains.

I will start with 4 stars. This area of town is an area that I’m well familiar with. If you have you lived in the confines of this area I was seeing the dilapidation and the transformation. I am really excited for what it’s going to be from where was. I am sure rent in the local Apartments is going to be trying to find more expensive than Denver should be. let alone Omaha. I think right now the city is just rushing to fill with new businesses and I hope many of them have long term business plans. I can’t wait for the time or midtown and downtown and Blackstone are connected. each area offers something so diverse. I really like coming to this part of town for the fun activities that are available. soon I will see you here. The city had done a renovation to what is now Stinson park and made that a much better place than the old AkSarBen area that it once was. The same can be expected for Blackstone!
