Found this place through Unilocal and had an incredible latte. I don’t usually drink them, but was so happy with what I got, as well as the beans I purchased to go. The friendly group of people hanging out in the café was a welcome respite from my long drive across the country. They also gave excellent recommendations for food options in Omaha. I made sure to stop off here on the way back. Highly recommend.

I only got a sip before abandoning my bev for toddler and infant duties but it sure was a good one. Next time we’re back we’ll stick around and enjoy a cup.

Was out walking around, got thirsty and stopped in here… Very nice and homey inside, not overly big from what I could see, but certainly enough space to enjoy coffee and such with a friend or two… Ended up ordering a iced coffee from a very friendly fellow who was probably the proprietor… Price was about what it usually is at a downtown coffee house, I enjoyed the drink and would most definitely come back since the gentleman who took care of my order was truly one of the friendlier people I’ve met recently…

I work from home and often come visit Greg at howlin hounds. I usually get at regular coffee. I got a macchiato the other day and it blew my mind. It’s a simple menu that focuses on the integrity of the coffee, instead of providing a hundred menu items. Greg knows everyone that walks in the door and continues to build a community atmosphere for each and every customer.

This place is a gem! Greg is the owner and is such a fun and friendly guy. He always makes great conversation and makes the best lattes I’ve ever had! The artwork also switches artists frequently so you can see a lot of different interesting work. It’s a great place to go hang out. I couldn’t speak highly enough of it.

I love going to coffee shops, and I love trying out new coffee places. However, I’m always hoping to find that special coffee shop that is my primary«go to» place. This is Howlin’ Hounds, and here is why: the drinks(I enjoy a Cuban style breve), the owner(Greg– friendly and always ready for an engaging conversation), and the atmosphere(I love the open, uncluttered space). I highly recommend this coffee shop.

We’re passing through Omaha as we travel around the country in our trailer and love a good coffee shop. Greg was very hospitable and made a great americano. He recommended us other places to go for food and an open mic and we hung out in the shop for a couple hours utilizing the free wifi to get some work done and work on our website,

On a recent trip to Omaha we checked out Howling Hounds Coffee thanks largely to the five star rating it has on Unilocal.Wanting to check out a good, local coffee shop Howling Hounds certainly seemed like the right choice. The coffee shop is in front of the Department of Corrections and from the outside looks to be a little hope in the wall. Once inside the mixture of local art coupled with the architecture of an old bar impresses. Greg, the owner and barista, took our order which consisted of a coffee and a latte. The coffee was hot, fresh and flavorful and we learned the beans came from a roaster from Ithaca, NY. The latte was noted to be quite good, as well. The shop prides itself on its craft and Greg was friendly and a gracious host who told us about the history of his business, his family’s ownership of the building which used to be their bar, his plans for the future and other Omaha history. Howling Hounds focuses on coffee and tea and the menu is centered around the drinks. A great spot to check out if an Omaha local or if a visiting traveler looking for a cup of really good coffee!

So good– they let us in for lattes in the middle of a windstorm while CLOSED. Such good people– it’s a must for Omaha newbies! They don’t compromise or have over roasted«grease» black French beans either– only the legit ones… Ask about it and you will find out! Enjoy the great heartland hospitality and I may see you on my way back through again!

We were just driving through Omaha and because of my love for coffee and coffee shops I looked up places. This was one that showed up and after reading the nice comments about the owner, my husband I walked 10 min to try it out. Greg the owner was outside and said hi before we knew who he was. He came inside and made us amazing drinks, and all the other reviews are right… this guys is SUPERNICE and totally loves what he does. This is a must stop shop. We will come back every time we are near this area.

If you get the owner who is there most of the time serving you, you’ll probably start wondering the same thing I did. «Why is this guy so nice? Like suspiciously nice. Is he being flippant and I just can’t tell? Seriously who is this nice to people?» Then you drink the delicious coffee he makes, see the time and care he puts into his preparation and you’ll think«Shit, I’d be that nice too if I was drinking coffee this good on the regular.» Kid you not, dethroned Omaha Bicycle Co for best cup of Iced Coffee in Omaha. So good. Go here you dummy. The guy who runs it is super nice. I’m not.

Really great spot to enjoy a coffee when you’re downtown and don’t want the hassle of dealing with the Old Market. Howlin’ Hounds takes up two bays in a building that sits along South 16th Street in the shadows of the Douglas County Penitentiary. To the north is the old Greyhound bus station — so it’s not the most serene location in Omaha, but really there’s nothing to worry about. Especially once you walk inside to the warm, welcoming and dog-friendly environment. The space is somewhat raw with tasteful decoration that’s both sparse and artistic — a really comfy spot to sit and work, have a meeting or read a book. I ordered my usual — a cup of coffee, black. I figure if a coffee shop can’t do that right, nothing much else will be good. Luckily, Howlin’ Hounds did not disappoint. My coffee was not overtly strong(which I don’t mind, actually) or watered down, but full-bodied, fresh and delicious. Plus the owner offered me a glass of water as soon as I walked in. Loved it. Definitely stop by Howlin’ Hounds if you’re in looking for a relaxing spot to spend a couple of hours or are in need of a casual meeting space downtown.

Stop #7 on the 2013 Coffee Crawl! By the time we got to Howlin’ Hounds, I had effecively killed my desire to drink coffee. Nonetheless, being the trooper I am, I drank down a shot of Beansmith’s Alleycat espresso, a taster of the same in a regular brew method and a cold brew of the Grey Plume’s Chiapas roast. How could I not? This place is pretty fantastic. (Yes I’m easily swayed by businesses that also act as purveyors of local art and allow dogs). But when the coffee offerings are also pretty stellar, and the drinks are served to both sides of the space via the repurposed bar? That’s just mre to love.
