I had never been here before and I think that the East Bay Plaza is a wonderful addition to Olympia. I know that after they relocated the Children’s museum they worked hard to build a family friendly park right in front of the museum and it’s really kind of amazing. Most people probably go over to Heritage Park to place in the fountain but there is a pretty big water feature/stream that runs adjacent to the museum where kids and adults alike and strip down and cool down. There are umbrella covered chairs nearby so if you’re a parent you can keep an eye on your kids and there are restroom facilities that are guarded by a security guard so that the large population of people in the downtown area without a home don’t damage the restrooms or not make them pleasant for those trying to use the plaza to have fun. The water is reclaimed and there are several recycle and reuse canisters nearby to help keep the area«green». There is parking all around the block which I believe is paid parking throughout the week. When you get done you can head on up to the Children’s Museum or down the road to the Wet Science center. Although I thought it’d be packed over here, I’m glad we stopped by here on such a hot day to cool down.

The East Bay Public Plaza opened to the public this summer. It is located next to the Hands on Children’s Museum and is operated by LOTT water management. Summer great timing! It is home to new sitting areas, an artificial stream, new bathrooms and fantastic landscaping. The scorching heat of summer was relieved by the artificial stream made specifically for wading. Even though no diapers or naked butts are allowed in the water, everyone had a great time. There are sculptures in the stream for children to play on. The new public restrooms are very nice on the inside. The tile is fabulous! The sinks, soap dispensers, and towel dispensers are all automatic. I have been there several times and each time the bathrooms have been immaculate. The sitting areas are a nice place to chat or to plop down for a rest after chasing excited children. There are sculptures here as well. I will be sure to add more information later.
