this is a real sandwich shop and needs more recognition. i have had most of their 18+ featured sandwiches and have enjoyed every single one. my favorite is the BEARNAISE, add cheese. i keep wanting to post pictures, but never feel like taking out my phone once my sandwich is unwrapped. i think the name hurts the business. never knew what it was. found it by accident one day looking for a bathroom tough to park on arcadia usually so try the lot next to bank of america or a spot on sound beach ave instead.

Best sandwiches ever, period. So much flavor packed in, it’s a real meal. Gobblers are the best.

We believed the hype about Alpen Pantry, and were revved up for something epic. The service was great(super efficient and friendly), the selection was huge for drinks, chips, sauces and sandwiches, and overall very convenient. We had the black bread, which was good but nothing crazy special, and the makeup of the sandwich was decent but not unique. All in all, this was a good neighborhood deli, nothing more, nothing less. I’d definitely recommend swinging by to grab a picnic lunch if you’re in the area, but wouldn’t make a special trip there just for the grub.

Fantastic restaurant shop in OG. Always go with the fresh black bread. The Stilton is my go to. Management is fantastic. Great drink selection.

Great stuff. Has been forever. Unique European-inspired sandwiches, Schaller & Weber cold cuts, I’m partial to the Diller on black bread but you could pretty much throw a dart at the sandwich board and get a winner. Gary is cool, prefers cash. The TV is always on. Hit this place at least weekly.

I probably haven’t had a sandwich from here in a solid decade, if not more. I used to go here all the time when I worked in Riverside in the late 90’s. Today I was in that neck of the woods getting an oil change, and it occurred to me «Alpen Pantry!» This place hasn’t changed a bit! They serve up some unique, creative, generously-portioned sandwiches that are just out of this world. My favorite – which I had today – is the Bernaise. It’s a roast beef sandwich on their famous black bread with their special bernaise sauce. It was just so mighty tasty! Definitely worth the short trip every now and again from Darien, as we have a real«deli shortage problem» in this town!

I LOVE this place. It’s right up my alley & never disappoints. Each of the sandwich combinations I’ve tried so far have been excellent, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. I find the black bread especially delicious. It’s a nice, quiet little takeout place, perfect for popping in before or after getting on the train or going to the beach.

If you can catch them before they run out of bread or close good job. My top 3 are the Bernaise(roast beef melts in your mouth), the diller, and the courier. I get everything on black bread because it’s so money.

Thanks Unilocal!I really liked this place. It’s an old fashioned deli. The black bread was good, although not up my alley. I believe it has a rye base, which I’m not a huge fan of. If I remember correctly, I ordered a Salami, ham, cheese and butter sandwich. Yeah, butter. I figured I should just go for it. This place inspires that. Like I said, it was good, although next time I’ll try it on different bread… blasphemy, I know.

I first went there in 1980, and it really hasn’t changed much since then. Same sandwiches. Don’t miss the Stilton.

This has to be one of OG’s best kept secrets due to the lack of reviews. I haven’t lived in town for more than 2 decades, but I return time after time when visiting family because nothing beats their sandwiches. It’s always the first place on my «what to eat» list when I arrive, and usually, if timing works out, I get one as I depart for the airport so I can have one on the cross-country, food-less flight. The Bomber is truly the bomb! Beautiful, rare roast beef, lettuce, tomato and the amazing blue cheese dressing, all on Russian black bread. MUST have the black bread.

Alpen Pantry is the BEST. I grew up five minutes away and whenever I’m home I make it a point to go pick up a delicious sandwich on black bread from Gary, who’s been there since I was a kid. I always eat half at red lights because I can’t wait until I get back to the house. I’m really picky about sandwiches and these are some of the best I’ve ever had. Favorites are the Gobbler, Beefeater and Stilton(if you like blue cheese). Oh and don’t forget cash. Also they close at 3 on Saturdays, so I’m gonna go run to get a Gobbler!

Morgan and I strolled in here all sorts of hungover a couple of days after Christmas. We’d slept WAY through breakfast and made an informed decision to start the day off with sandwiches from Alpen. I ordered the French special. It consisted of imported pâté and cornichons on homemade black bread. I concede that the choice was a gamble in my alcohol-battered state, but I rarely turn my back on my French heritage when presented with such a culinary option. The bread was incredible, and the sandwich was very satisfying. After three bites, my lingering headache all but disappeared. Morgan had the Stilton, but for some insane reason substituted ranch dressing for my favorite blue cheese. In either case it was really good too. Alpen has a crazy selection of sauces, chocolates, and side items. The«hot as fuck» line is really funny.

I’m kind of surprised that this place doesn’t have more reviews. Another one of Old Greenwich’s hot spots this is a great sandwich shop. Right across the street from Arcadia coffee Alpen has fantastic sandwich selections. I would recommend anything off the board, being as this isn’t like any regular sandwich shop(i.e. you can’t just order a ham and cheese and call it a day). Great selections of chips, snacks and drinks; some ran-dos and no-names but a lot of your favorites as well. They also have random spreads on the shelf and fun snacks. I would recommend the Gobbler and I agree with Cameron order everything on black bread, eat it on the bench outside, don’t wait until you get home.

There’s only one guy that takes your order and he’s been there for like the last two decades. Order from the sandwich board and make sure you get the black bread. Great sandwiches, no matter which one you choose. It’s take out only and they have a good selection of chips, drinks & a few side items. My favorites are the Italian, the Stilton, the Gobbler, & the Russian. Yum!
