Cancun Mexican Grill

I really hate to give a negative review to Cancun because the food and service is consistently good. However, my wife and I ate there last night and I think we got taken advantage of. We each ordered a jumbo margarita, but we could not taste much if any tequila in the drink so we ordered a shot of tequila to add to it. Later we ordered on more shot to add to the margarita and finally got it just right. However, when we got the bill, the shots of tequila were over $ 8.00, while the original margarita was $ 7.50. At the time, I didn’t want to make a big deal over it, so I just paid the bill. However, after giving it some more thought, I really think they intentionally took advantage of us and overcharged us for the drinks. Again, I really like the food and the people that work there, but in this case I feel like I’ve been ripped off.

This is a great Mexican spot for lunch, especially. Great service with fast, friendly staff. Good pricing and i really enjoy their Huevos con Chorizo, especially with their home made Tomatillo sauce on the side. Great salsa for their chips and great lunch specials, too!

Delicious and authentic. The only downfall I think they have is their servers. You can tell which ones have been there for a while, and they always do a good job. But whenever they seem to hire in new people they tend to mess orders up all the time. I always get the fajita nachos, half steak half chicken, no tomatoes. The last time we were there (5 of us) we got our food, my nachos had tomatoes and were cold, my dads were as well. The fajita vegetables also were not cooked like they should be. They were more or less raw onions and green peppers. I told the waiter, he took our plates and told us he would fix them. By the time we got our new food, the other 3 people were finished eating. so we awkwardly sat and ate our nachos. Now, after they were done right, they were delicious!

Our group was looking for a place for dinner after a conference and decided to try Cancun based on the Unilocal review. This is one of the few times that Unilocal has steered me wrong. While not a terrible experience by any means, other reviews gave me a higher expectation.
The restaurant has a fun vibe, brightly painted chairs and painted wooden designs under the glass of the table. Our server was friendly and took the time to respond to our questions and to check in once we had started our meal. I would give the server four stars.
The food came out quickly. We all ordered various combination plates with basic items such as burritos, tacos, enchiladas, rice and beans. The plate comes with exactly what items are ordered, no side salad or garnish. The food was your average Tex Mex, this is not authentic Mexican food. There was flavor but no spice at all, which I think the food would have benefited from. I thought the chicken was better then the ground beef. The higher points of the meal were the tortilla chips that were still a bit warm and the margaritas. The chips also came with a tomato based sauce that okay, again no spice.
Overall, it was not a bad meal, and we appreciated the good service.

This restaurant is located in a strip mall near other restaurant options. Upon arriving we were immediately seated and provided menu. The restaurant has lots of seating. I ordered a meal that came with two chimichanga’s (note about the menu pricing — 1 chimi is $ 10, 2 are $ 12. why would anyone ever order just one). The chimi was okay. I would have liked it to be fuller and more flavorful, but it was good enough.

Very good authentic Mexican food. If you’re from the west side of the state and are familiar with el burrito this place is similar.
Complementary chips and salsa are a nice touch.
I had the lunch special (steak chimichanga) which was very good.

Looking for a shredded beef wet burrito. No shredded beef, but the waiter did recommend the steak. I got the dinner with all beans no rice — as it usually has red or green bell pepper in it and I’m allergic. Could have used a bit more «Gravy», but it was very good! Chips and salsa excellent — chips were crisp and not hard. There was someone by my table at least every 5 minutes to make sure everything was fine! Excellent Service! I’d have given a 5 star rating IF they either had the shredded beef or there were more steak in my burrito — seemed a bit «skimpy».

Food was good when it finally got there. Waiter never checked back for drinks or asking how the food was. Very slow waiter and cold retried beans. I’m definitely crossing this place off my lists of places to go.

I have no idea how this place gets good reviews. Ordered the carne asada. It was tasted like bad round steak. The worst I have ever had. Service was decent.

You know, I’m not sure what to say. Wasn’t expecting much from a strip-​mall Mexican joint but this place rocked my world. Great food, great service, great margs. World class — one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. Super menu selection, atmosphere and attention. I am totally coming back when barreling through the area.

Fantastic! It’s very hard to do Mexican food really well, and most establishments just end up being mediocre. The chicken quesadilla I had was well-​seasoned and flavorful. The tortilla shell was perfectly crispy. Cancun’s margaritas could have used a little less sugar and a little more alcohol, but they were still fine.

Awesome service. Awesome chips and salsa.
Don’t miss their corn tortillas — they are fresh made and soft and tasty.
The chimichanga was easily the best chimichanga I’d ever eaten. The cheese sauce was incredible. Beans were seasoned perfectly.

Amazing. Authentic Mexican food. Reminds me of favorite restaurant in Stillwater Ok El Tapatio! Must try!

Great place for lunch as the staff are great and the service is fast. Had the chimichanga with chicken which was delicious as it was not deep fried or doughy.

Cancun is the most amazing restaurant on the planet. I have yet to find a Mexican restaurant at this level of amazingness. Let’s start with the margs. Fantastic. Just fantastic. They’re really big and perfectly blended. The salsa is really fresh and is in constant supply. As for food. The IS special or the chimichanga are my go to. I cannot stress enough, the cheese sauce was created by God and transported to this small Mexican restaurant in mid Michigan, just to confirm that God is real.
These feelings are not just my own. Every person I have told about Cancun feels the same views as myself. For your taste buds, souls and hearts sake, go to Cancun.

A great authentic Mexican restaurant. I’m not from the Lansing/​Okemos area, but I come here enough to be able to enjoy such atmospheres. I had 2 soft shell tacos, which were awesome.
The staff was kind, and very friendly. They brought out chips and salsa, which was also very good. We have a similar place back where I live, and this definitely rivals it in terms of good food, and authenticity.
Come here if you can because you won’t regret that decision at all!

This restaurant is GREAT!!! Food is fantastic and absolutely delicious. Portions are just the right size. I leave filling very satisfied! Great frozen margaritas!!! I had the peach margarita! The servers are very nice! Nice atmosphere!!!

Love this place!!! Amazing prices and they are also fast, friendly and clean! The fajitas are super tastes! Get the corn tortillas to go with them– huge upgrade from flour in my opinion :-) … Beware of the margarita sizes– a large is HUGE!!! :-D

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN AMERICA. Couldn’t find a place that even comes close in Cali. So yes, I come back to EL when I visit Detroit once every 6 months just to eat here. That good.
Get the chicken chimichanga.
