This is now called Ozzy’s Kabob( Unilocal lists it under old name). Also the hours posted on Unilocal were wrong, saying it closed at 5pm. It was open when I went there at 6:30. The décor isn’t fancy but it is nice enough. I had their chicken schwarma entrée with fries and lentil soup. The schwarma was quite tasty with good rice pilaf with a large serving of both chicken and rice. The soup was also good. The fries were not very cooked right however, but to their credit they seemed homemade and not the standard sysco stuff served at every other restaurantin america. I was happy to dine at a family business and not another chain, and got some tasty ethnic food in the process. It wasn’t quite as good as some Lebanese food I usually eat in the Detroit area, but it was still good enough for me to recommend, especially considering the scarcity of good food in this area. BTW they don’t serve any alcoholic beverages here.

I like the idea of different alternatives to fast food at lunch. One that offers sit down, real plates, silverware and cloth napkins, is a real bonus. Chinese buffets scare me off for the most part, this establishment is an OK alternative to that. That said the food on the buffet at Abu runs the gamut from cold and stale one day, to delicious the next. The lentil soup is a must have, the humus is always very good, the salad stuff is always fresh and colorful. It is the main course selection that varies so much. I do like the food here. I can not tell you what it is, but when it is warm and fresh, I always eat too much.

I had the lunch buffet with coworkers and everyone seemed to enjoy the food. It wasn’t the best Middle Eastern food that I’ve ever had, but it was good. I was impressed with the vegetarian options and the freshness of the salad on the buffet. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the service was the drawback. One of my coworkers ordered a coke and they brought her diet coke because they ran out of regular and didn’t think she’d notice. Who wouldn’t notice the difference between regular and diet coke? We also waited a while for someone to take our drink order and we weren’t even offered menus both of which were fine but odd. I’m spoiled when it comes to Middle Eastern/Lebanese food, I admit it. I think someone else might have given them 4 stars.

We were in town for an event and ate here one night. My whole family found it excellent. The food was great. The service was great. The owner(the Sudanese gentleman) waited on us himself, and he was wonderful. He was so nice to my two-year-old daughter. He brought her things to try so she could find something she’d like. We went back to the hotel and told the front desk that we really enjoyed it. I read a couple of the other reviews, and I was surprised. The first night we went there(yes, we went back for lunch a couple days later), the lentil soup was thick and tasty. The blended juice was delicious. Our meals were very good. My daughter ate quite a bit. We left full and happy. When we went back, we had the buffet. There was a lot to enjoy. I have to admit that it did seem a bit more watery, but the taste was delicious. There were new things to try, and we enjoyed pretty much everything. I do recommend the place.

One of the blessings of living in the Metro Detroit area is the abundance of good Lebanese food. Today, however, I was not near home but in Okemos around lunch time and I happened upon Abu Sahara. Maybe I just ordered the right things at the right time but my reaction couldn’t be more different than the reviews below. I tried the hummous, baba ghanoush and crushed lentil soup. All were exemplary, as good as any I can remember eating. The lentil soup, in particular, was delightfully mild and somewhat chunky, not the over-seasoned, homogenized affair that is common. Your mileage may vary but I was unexpectedly impressed. If I’m back in the area again, I will definitely return and post an update.

Very friendly people, but unfortunately service is slow(one person out front) and quality of food not too great. I ordered a fresh raw juice and it tasted so bitter/rotten I had to throw it away. Haven’t tried the food, but I will not be returning.

The food was horrible here. The lentil soup was watered down. The salad vegetables tasted rotten, and worst of all was the lamb Shish kabob I ordered. First of all I think they brought beef instead. It was so dry and nasty I could hardly chew it. It came fairly quick, yet it was very over cooked. I think they might have reheated some leftovers. Judge for yourself if you don’t believe me.

We brought in a group and were served buffet style. Falafel are very tasty. Curry– like dish is very good. Lamb stew was great as well. All seems authentic. Nice family atmosphere. Service was friendly and accommodating. The rice pudding was some of the best I’ve ever hadThey even have raw juices. Great prices 8 lunch 12 dinner. Sue says it’s the best hummus ever!

We dined here last night and we were disappointed. The yogurt salad and hummus were very salty. We ordered the combo which had 3 skewers. The shish kabob and chicken kabob were dry. The Kafta Kabob was ok.

This location has had several owners, so my recommendation is to look at any previous reviews with caution. The new owner is from Sudan and he works hard to make sure that his customers are happy with their food. I usually order the house salad with a side of chicken kabobs. It’s a smaller portion size, which is perfect for me.
