I saw someone else had posted a pic of the enchiladas and I had to have some. I wasn’t disappointed. Had both chicken and cheese. Salsa was very good. The best part though? Cucumber mint margarita. Delicious! Sat outside in the patio. Perfect!

Wow. Truly enjoy going to this restaurant. Made the mistake of sitting on the bar side today. Bartender was extremely rude to my group(all work in the service industry) and all the customers we saw him interact with. It was too much to handle so before we even got a drink we went next door to another mexican restaurant. Customer service is first priority! #agavemarias

Excellent customer service. Decent food. Very clean and organized interior. I stopped by here to eat some breakfast/lunch… Would depend on what the menu was. This is a tequila restaurant. I didn’t see a bar any where. Unless it was closed this time. But they do have a long, long list of tequilas. I’m not a huge fan so I just had their food. The lady, looks like the manager, was really friendly and kept coming over to check on us. I had the chilaquiles. They had no eggs. It surprised me because I’ve never had they without eggs. Maybe this is the way they’re supposed to be. I don’t know. They were okay. Pretty much chips soaked in tomato sauce and cheese. I also had the tortilla soup. It’s a very light broth soup with a half a cup of cheese in it. The broth was good. I couldn’t eat half of all that cheese. My wife had the carnitas. They were decent. Again the service and the locale made it a positive experience. The food was okay. I’d come back to try the tequilas. The food not so much.

From the minute we sat there was very friendly service that made the vibe very welcoming, we also chose the patio seating which was comfortable and open. We had guacamole to begin which was extremely fresh and complimented their salsa well. We then ordered our entrees– two taco plates one carne asada and the other chile verde. Both were fantastic yet the carne asada was definitely my favorite, extremely flavorful and perfectly cooked. I also recommend there Serrano sauce on the side if you like an extra kick. Before leaving the owner approached our table, an extremely pleasant older man with a sweet smile and asked how our experience was. Definitely will visit again if I’m in ojai.

Food is absolutely killer. I had chile verde and chile colorado, my wife had potato tacquitos. Leticia is the friendliest person, she took great care of us. We’ll be back whenever we’re in town.

What an absolutely lovely place! The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional. Leticia took very good care of us and even made me Canela tea. Her suggestions were perfect, and as our first stop in town, we couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome.

Played golf in Soule Park and needed some sustenance, so we stopped in for some Mexican food. Carnitas are the BOMB! Highly recommend. Order the Margarita with fresh mix, lime juice and orange citrus and you can’t go wrong. Please ask about their non menu salsa, it is robust, tasty and spicy. Homemade tortillas; enough said! Of course, this is anybody who wishes to hear my opinion…

The tequila bar is good. Probably one of the widest selection of tequilas this side of Mexico and the bartenders will do some interesting cocktails beyond the margarita. Small & cozy inside but the patio is spacious and sociable. The restaurant next door has the hidden extra that you have to be turned on to by others that know it already — the late night after hours limited menu. I think it is only Friday and Saturday but after the restaurant closes for normal dining they stay open for a make-your-own taco/burrito menu. Basically, order the hot stuff like beans, meat, rice and you finish it off with the trimmings yourself. If it is a burrito, after you add your stuff they will roll it up for you. Very chill location next to Libby Park and since it is probably the only restaurant serving food in Ojai past 10p to pretty much last call the local bars let you bring food back there if you don’t want to enjoy it on their patio. Prices start at just a couple of bucks so pocket change can get you a nice midnight meal.

In Ojai it can be difficult to find a happy hour spot for a group of friends to go, you try to discern between the elite, trendy, & pretentious eateries, to the two or three popular biker bars, and then you have the person that just wants to sit back and relax with friends on the patio taking in the Ojai sunset and sharing laughs with friends, that brings you to Los Caporales. While I cannot say I’m a huge fan of the food, they make a great pitcher of Margaritas & a killer Guacamole. When I lived in Oak View & didn’t want to venture down the hill to Ventura this was my go to place. The staff are also extremely nice & always attentive so it’s hard for me to poo poo the food, but I just don’t find it worth wasting my calories on… The Margaritas yes… The food not so much.

Nectar of the Gods is delicious! It’s like Mexican chili with bean and chicken but very light and fresh… A must try Also, the margaritas are great! As they should be since there’s an attached tequila bar!

Vegan alert — Vegan enchiladas filled with sauteed green peppers! Sort of like enchilada meets chile relleno, but without all that nasty cheese clogging my arteries. I thought when I went Vegan that I’d have to give up Mexican food, but here in Ojai my Vegan prayers have been answered. Everything else is great as well, no complaints from the meat eaters at the table. I’m coming back for more!

Great happy hour deals! Place to get a good tequila drink and some quality appetizers. Stopped in on our way camping and I would definitely stop by here again!

The cheese enchiladas were good but the cheese was a little gritty and the meal lacked flavor. The margarita on the other hand was really tasty and refreshing. The mix was made from real juice and had a nice citrus flavor.

Very good tequila bar. The people are very nice and know their tequila. The prices are about what you would expect. They also do trios with your choice or style. I will be here again.

I found this place on a blog written about Ojai. It was my first time visiting the town and I was super excited to try the food here. The food was honestly just okay. I ordered the vegetarian enchiladas and they didn’t have much flavor. However, the reason I’m giving one star is because the service was horrible. Having been a server myself I am completely completely understanding if you’re swamped and you’re taking a while. This guy was purely just talking to friends the whole time. It took us 30 minutes just to get our drinks. Absolutely ridiculous.

**OKMEXICANFOODINOJAI** The girls were craving Mexican food, so here we go. PARKING ======== Tiny strip mall, plenty of parking either on street or lot. AMBIANCE ========= If you sit on the patio out front, you have a nice view across the parking lot of Libbey Park with its fountain and trees. FOOD ===== ENCHILADAS Underwhelming with a side of refried beans and red rice. RATING: 3⁄5 NACHOS Not the nachos I was hoping. I was dreaming of cheddar, green onions, fresh chopped tomatoes, etc. It was basically boring, unspectacular nachos. RATING: 3⁄5 My friend ordered a carne asada burrito. It tasted better than my boring enchiladas. The burritos, filled with your choice of meat like carne asada, chicken marinated in annatto, or pork in chile verde sauce, were large and a great value. RATING: 4⁄5 One of our friends is a vegetarian. She had plenty of options here, including the potato taquitos with rice and beans on the side. Salads are nice low-carb options with grilled meat or sautéed shrimp. BEVERAGES =========== Classic MARGARITAS are a solid bet. Fresh juices are the way to go. RATING: 3⁄5 SERVICE ======== Not as slow as I would have imagined, but nothing spectacular. RATING: 3⁄5 OVERALL ======== I’ve had much better Mexican food elsewhere. Next time, just hang out at their tequila bar and call it a day.
