Amalia’s isn’t the worst, but there are plenty of much better similar places in the area. Upon being seated at a somewhat dirty looking table, we were given old, dirty menus and assured that everything was«homemade.» We ordered the huevos rancheros with steak and the eggs Benedict omelet. The«steak» for the huevos was thin, grey and gristly, and the eggs and salsa were extremely watery and not very appealing. I also ordered a cheddar biscuit for a side, which may or may not have been homemade(I doubt it — It tasted like a boxed biscuit mix), but it certainly wasn’t fresh. The taste and texture were indicative of it being frozen and then heated in a microwave, which I’m pretty sure was exactly the case. Further, the Benedict omelet came complete with fake hollandaise, probably a mix from a bag, and American cheese. What kind of eggs Benedict(even in omelet form) uses American cheese?! The lone bright spot of our brunch was a very friendly and helpful waitress. That’s the only reason I’d give them 2 stars instead of 1. There are worse brunch spots around, but there are many, MANY better — and we’ll be skipping Amalia’s for these places from now on.

We go here for breakfast all the time and it is delicious. Get their skillets. Love the food!

This takes the term ‘greasy spoon’ to a whole new level. Skillets were sitting in a pool of liquid butter. Hostess was friendly, waitress ok. We will be going with other breakfast options in Oconomowoc in the future.

This is a nice family restaurant that offered a good variety of choices from American to Italian. My friend had a juicy hamburger that was flavorful and I a Monte Cristo. The French Toast of the sandwich tickled my tongue. The portion sizes were generous. The service was friendly and quick. I loved this restaurant.

This place has the best corned beef hash anywhere, and its homemade, not that crazy salty stuff in a can. Great service too!

I went here a few days ago with my friends for lunch and the food was pretty mediocre. First of all, the menus were pretty dirty and outdated. As far as the food, I ordered mozzarella sticks and I could tell that they were frozen and kind of stale. Their California soup was pretty delicious, though. I ordered the veggie wrap for my entrée and it was supposed to be grilled, but it was pretty cold and not very good. The service was good, though. Our waitress was nice. She made one of my friends fresh coffee when we came in which was nice. I don’t think I would go back there again. I didn’t get what I paid for. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Love to come here for breakfast ! Everything is cooked consistently the same way with high quality. They cook the eggs the way you want them. So the pic has scrambled eggs soft with American fries and sausage links. Look at those potatoes … Really cooked well . Very friendly staff ! Just a nice family run restaurant. I’m here for sure every weekend ! Ohh if you don’t do breakfast try the special boards for the latest of the chefs creations. Best place in otown

Breakfast is good, but most everything else tastes like frozen reheats. Nice staff though.

Love this place! Hard to give a five star review for a diner place like this but Amalia’s certainly deserves at least 4 stars. We have a lakehouse on Oconomowoc Lake and this weekend we brought my 90 year old dad with us. He is a WWII veteran and the waitresses went over the top to honor him. The food is traditional, hearty breakfast diner lunch fare. Don’t come here if you are from Chicago and expect canary tongues on toast points or egg white with gluten free muffins, if American cheese scares you stay away. Nope, foodies this is the real deal. Their soups are awesome. I had eggs over easy and some really good«dippin’ bread. Great hearty fare, decent prices and super sweet waitstaff. Sorry they don’t serve Starbucks but their coffee is legit and they will make sure to keep your cup of joe full. My Dad went out of his way to find our waitress to thank her. Warmed my heart.

After putting out flags for Memorial Day, part of our Veteran group with kids and grand kids came here. Our server, Cathy, was so awesome. Cheerful, attentive, and organized. She and the restaurant were very busy. The food was prompt and wonderful. This was my first visit. It will not be my last. Thanks for your Support and excellent service Cathy! Hats off to the kitchen and bus help for kicking butt on a very hectic and busy morning. Dave L. U.S. Army(Ret.)

Here is the best Milwaukee Greek restaurant run by and cooked by Mexicans. They have everything and it’s all done well. Boom. Have no fear; order anything you want because Manuel and the boys will make it right. Want the staple? Order a fish fry. Best beer batter breading I’ve had. No doubt. Prices are right and so is the service. Nothing special except for consistently made great tasting home cooking. That, though, IS special these days. Go there because you’ll love it.

Service was friendly & excellent. Coffee good and refilled as needed. Coleslaw delicious. Baked potato was hot on outside aluminum foil but just warm insides I’m guessing it sat a while under heat lamp. Fish just okay. Too thick of a batter coat.

Skip the biscuit– they are as dense as a brick. The rest was wonderful. The eggs were cooked perfect, the hash browns are the right amount of crispy and soft. The bacon was thin, but crispy. I had a skillet– and I would eat that every weekend if I could. If you like hot coffee this is the place for you. They tried to top off my cup about 1,000 times. This would be great on a real cold morning.

A great family restaurant in the heart of Oconomowoc! I recently went to Amalia’s as part of a family gathering. It’s located in a building that has been a car dealership and(I think) an appliance store at one time but now has been converted to a mini-mall. Amalia’s is a warm and welcoming spot with mostly booths. The daily specials are hand-written on a chalkboard that is right in front of you as you enter the restaurant. Of course, no one pays attention to them anyway, but our server was happy to tell us about them. The five of us ordered rather disparate entrees, a club sandwich, a fish fry, veal parmigiana and two of us had pan-fried lake perch. My lake perch was delicious, cooked just right, firm and juicy. It was served with lemon and a container of great cole slaw. I opted for potato pancakes, which were tasty although not of a consistency I’m familiar with. The server offered syrup(um, no thanks) and apple sauce, which is always my topping of choice for potato pancakes. The veal parmigiana was reported to be very good with a portion too large to finish. The fish fry was excellent. The club sandwich was huge, and after struggling with it, my friend wound up taking it apart and eating it with a fork. We all had large portions, our meals were great, and the price for the five us of was more than reasonable. I don’t get to Oconomowoc much anymore but when I do return, Amalia’s will be on my radar screen!

Three or four stars? Three or four stars? I had a hard time deciding. I guess I really would rather give it four, because it’s a nice little restaurant, but they put a slice of cheap american cheese on top of my eggs benedict before putting way too much hollandaise sauce on top. You just can’t do that. Not to a traditional eggs bennie. Okay, okay. I have other factors that lead to the three stars. Let’s not forget that three stars is still a pretty good rating. It’s A-ok, which in my book means that I’d visit it again. The service is friendly. The food comes out quickly. My water glass was constantly being filled. They have a great selection of diner food and the Mexican selections are awesome and lean towards the more traditional Mexican fare. It’s great for kids. The food is good. It’s A-OK.

We stopped by for a late breakfast and had a wonderful experience. Theresa, our waitress, was sweet and very helpful. I had one of the specials, the California omelette, and it was amazing. Fresh avocado and cilantro on top-YUM! My boyfriend had the classic breakfast. We both tried to finish our plates, but it was just too much! Sad to leave such good food behind. Our coffee cups never got to the bottom and you can let them know what level you like to have it refilled it. All over a great experience.
