Fresh Grill Bistro

Great addition (and badly needed) to Oceanside. Pretty patio seating, pet friendly, and good food. The pulled chicken sandwich is excellent and the Bourbon BBQ burger is very tasty too. Service doesn’t get any better than this and these folks are really trying hard. Kudos to them — it’s nice to have a friendly place to go have a nice casual sunny SoCal lunch in our neighborhood again.

Being an employee there, I can say the food was great… the service/​organization, not so much. I’m really glad it’s under new ownership, I really think this place has GREAT potential, it just needs some TLC & time. We had an amazing client base but I feel towards the end of the restaurant being open they were getting more & more disappointed with the place. /​: Should be open in March!

Saturday December 28, 2013 lunch at 2pm. Restaurant was a mess. Most tables had dishes, etc that hadn’t been cleared even though restaurant only had 1 customer dining. Ordered salmon plate and taco, both were good. Service was very slow. No wine available. Poor dining experience this time, but was very good in past. Might not return.

I absolutely love this place, it’s fresh, delicious, fair priced. It’s beautiful colors are refreshing. The music is very calming. I will be coming back

Was very disappointed with my visit. I went in early Sunday morning ordered an Iced coffee and a panini to go. To begin with the gal working the register looked like she had a long night after I placed my order she got on her cell phone and was taking her personal calls. My coffee was disgusting I took a sip an threw it away it was basically water and the panini wasn’t great either it had no spread which made it very dry I could of made a better one at home. Their was a family after me that placed an order and I got my food last as I went up to cancel my order due to the wait time the waitress said it“s coming never did she apologize for the wait nor was she helpful to the cook my order was to go and he made it to dine in instead of her boxing it to speed the process she told him as he had multiple order to take care of. Wont be stopping by that place ever again.

Horribly disorganized with about five people behind the counter but only two working. One girl, maybe supervisor/​manager standing around chewing food open mouthed while three people waited to place orders.
Credit card machine not working so cash only.
Price of fountain soda not listed but seems like it might have been over two dollars. Plus then the soda machine didn’t work which didn’t seem to surprise the workers so not sure why they sold me one. They did provide a canned soda but that’s not really what I wanted or expected.
Burger ok but fries obviously frozen ones, not terribly warm.
Don’t waste your money.

Great breakfast prices and meals are appropriately sized. Perfect amount of food. Need to work on getting all meals out to table at same time.

Great concept, kind of confusing, odd location.
I get the concept of bringing «fresh”(will explain the «» later) American/​Mexican/​gastro pub fusion food to the public at an affordable price, but it’s a bit deceiving. I mean the food was good and fairly priced… somewhat…but it didn’t hold up to its name.
Side note — Caffeine bar is a great idea, but not necessary if you can just order from the other counter. Plus it doesn’t seem busy enough to separate it.
Anyway, we ordered the BLT, fries, Fish taco, and the pulled pork sandwich. Fries– crispy, golden, not much flavor. BLT– mediocre and not very fresh. Fish taco– actually really good, great flavor. The best was the pulled pork, just not the run of the mill buns. With such great flavor, you would figure they would squeeze it between some better buns.(insert joke here)
Oh don’t forget about the soda machine. It’s like 631 177 430 flavors. Just don’t be that person that has to see each one before a decision is made.
Plenty of inside and patio seating. TVs to watch the games and music for your entertainment pleasure.

Second timer here and absolutely loved it here… As other Unilocalers mentioned, I too was confused but pleasantly surprised. I had the hot dog wrapped in bacon and today I experienced the pulled pork. Yummy… my son had the children’s portion baby back ribs which were very tendor and tasty too… Salmon is next on the list to try. The staff is helpful and friendly. Our food arrived quickly… I will be back for sure.

Hooray! Nice new addition to jazz up O’side. I was a bit confused walking into the new restaurant. The name ‘Fresh Grill Bistro’ made me think I would finally have a healthy go to spot besides Subway. Oddly, this restaurant is an assortment of kibbles: hot link/​tuna/​Philly cheese steak/​pulled pork sandwiches, breaded fish and shrimp tacos, Cobb salad, Caesar salad, Burgers, Fettucini, and From the Grill items such as ribs, brisket, pulled pork and grilled chicken. As you could imagine, I had difficulty figuring out what I wanted to order. The cashier noted that the Cobb salad was amazing — I was sold.
I love the friendly service and casual yet classy vibe of the Fresh Grill Bistro. The flat screen tv’s and comfortable outdoor seating offer thoughtfully added touches.
I am so glad that Oceanside is finally attracting fresh new restaurants that offer its community pocket friendly sit down alternatives to Chili’s!
Bravo Fresh Grill Bistro! I will definitely return.

Husband and I decided to try a new place. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try!
He order the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries– which he thought was good. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with regular fries– it was ok, not really authentic but good enough to eat both halves.
The two girls at the counter were very friendly and helpful. Food came out fast.
I will return to try something different.
Saw they serve breakfast and wanting to try the little caffeine bar they have going on.
I’m rooting for them to make it!

Visited this place late AM after a morning of tennis. We sat on the patio and enjoyed their brunch special which was a great value for the food you received. The meal was done well and was perfect portions. The service left a little to be desired, but that is fixable. Coming back in over a week for Taco Tuesday after the Tues night run at the beach!

Okay. Came in here, and honestly I was a little confused. There is BBQ going on here. There is Mexican going on here. There’s a café in here. It’s a strange mish-​mash of genres going on here, and sometimes the lack of vision on a menu worries me… but I forged on. There was a fish taco deal.
It’s funny how fish tacos can wash away all your doubts. These were the some of the best fish tacos I have had in my life. Soft but crispy tempura batter. Mango salsa. A chipotle crema. And very tender juicy fish. All in a taco.
Let’s just say I meant to have 3 that night, but left with 5 in my stomach.
More points for offering a very interesting beer with basil and honey infused in there.
What else to add? Service was fast, the owner was extremely friendly. Really cheering for this new oceanside business! I’ll be back on another tuesday!

I loved it. Great service. Great food. Friendly staff. Great little place. Had pulled pork hamburger with sausage and I loved it. We are a family of three and we spend $ 28 and got us full. I will definitely be coming back.

The hubby and I went here for dinner tonight. The place is obviously brand new and very chill. We both did the build your own burgers and then shared an order of cheese fries. We ordered our burgers rare and they came out medium rare, which we were good with as a lot of places won’t even do that.
The positive: atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food
The negative: wish you could substitute the standard fries for more elaborate fries, even if there’s an up charge.

This place sure is a nice change from the not so upscale places in this area. It has a nice fresh clean feeling when I walked in the door. Love the way everything was set up plenty of seats and even few TV’s to catch up on ESPN.
With it being my first time here we couldn’t decide on what to get. The cashier was very informative and gave some great suggestion. Nice chicken sandwich for me pulled pork sandwich for wifey and chicken nuggets for the lil guy.
The food came out super fast and not to mention they have beers on tap! Everyone’s food was great and I practically stole all of my lil ones sweet potato fries!
I will be returning again on Tue to take advantage of the beer and taco specials!

I went back yesterday for dinner even after the initial disappointment with the coffee. Had the fried chicken salad and the sliders. Fried chicken was very good over the salad. I’d go back for fried chicken. The sliders, good but about average.
Unique thing– They have two BBQ sauces on a counter to use, the BBQ one was delicious! House sauce is all right. Not bad just not my favorite.
After dinner once again tried for some coffee. The girl that serves the coffee is clueless. I ordered a mocha latte. I got brewed coffee with a mocha mix and soy. Hint– latte means steam milk (or soy in this case). Obviously with the espresso machine not working you cannot steam milk so don’t sell me a mocha latte at full price when its not a latte. Also-​here is another hint warm the milk so the coffee is served warm rather than cold.
The best thing and the thing that would bring me back to this bistro is the customer service from the rest of the staff (minus the coffee girl). Not sure if this high standard of service will continue or is it just because its a new place to eat? Regardless it will be hard to compete with Pit Stop next door and Felix’s up the street to compete with BBQ.
Overall– I’d go back for appetizers or fried chicken. Never again for coffee. Hope the customer service remains the same. Good luck to you Fresh Grill!!! And ask the property management company for a bike rack, it would be nice to ride your bike there and get a bite to eat at the same time.

I’m always looking for new eats so… after waiting for my husbands order at Starbucks next door, (which I hate) can’t stand the smell, we drove by and I saw the «Fresh» sign that caught my eye. So I mentioned it to him and because we were so undecided on what we wanted for lunch we agreed to go there.
The service was excellent and people really friendly, My sandwich was filling and since my side dish of red potato salad was great. (I had a tuna fish sandwich. My husband had the chicken and rib dish and my youngest had mac and cheese. Next time taking my two older kiddos since I’m usually never forgetting to take them out to eat, I’m sure they’ll love it! Oh the soda was good or maybe I was just thirsty =) Usually fountain drinks are watered down. I would go there again, and I love the dishware, feels like your spoiling yourself. I would recommend for sure.

A welcome addition to the neighborhood. Very good food for the price. Today was my second time there. The first time I got a burger with onion rings and BBQ sauce on it (can’t remember the name of it). It wasn’t the best burger in the world, but was still really good. Today I got the Southern Sliders with a side of mac and cheese — it was one brisket slider, one pulled pork slider, and one hot link slider. All three were solid. Again, not the best ever, but still really good. The place is clean and the food tastes fresh. Also, the people are real friendly. The food itself is closer to four stars, but with the prices and other intangibles I’m giving them five stars.
