I LOVE this place! The customer service is great :) Barbara was super sweet! My boyfriend was visiting from Iowa and he was impressed with the food, too. My favorite breakfast place, for sure.

Great food and great service. Don’s stuffed hash brown was so good. Our kids loved the mickey mouse pancake. We will definitely be back.

Best breakfast spot in South O!

Absolutely LOVE everyone at Don’s and the food is amazing!!! They are like family to my son and i. So friendly and welcoming. They take care of us every time. Their food is fresh and delicious that it keeps people coming back. I’ve been going to Don’s for years and will continue to go visit my favorite restaurant for years to come. In fact, here I come

Don’s! Yes, I think so!
I was a faithful follower of another (unnamed) local breakfast eatery for the last two or eighteen year. and never gave any of the other local places a sniff. So I thought about my narrow mindedness and decided to be a little more supportive of all the local businesses that were deserving of my money and attention. Who knows, I may be screwing myself out of a really good meal and some fine service because I was stuck in pattern. Well, Don’s is a prime example of what I was missing out on! The parking lot is small. It’s tiny in fact, perhaps even infinitesimal but don’t let this bit of minutia deter you from the goodness that awaits. There is plenty of street parking on both Coast Hwy and Vista Way which has you hoofing it less than a block to your destination. Keep in mind that there will most assuredly be a line when you arrive but fret not as it moves rather quickly and you’ll be seated faster than you think.
Patio seating is available and is pet friendly as long as you have a friendly pet.
I’ve been here three times now and have ordered something different every time but the one thing that remains a constant is the Bloody Mary! Don and his gang can make a mean Bloody and for the pittance of $ 1 you can make it a double. No silly, not double size. Double the booze, the hooch, the Crem de la Kremlin and garnished nicely with a green olive, a square of bacon, a jalapeño slice and a piece of celery.
I’ll give you a quick rundown on the things I’ve sampled at Don’s:
Country Stuffed Hashbrowns. Bacon, sausage, mushrooms and onions on kind of a potato/​hashbrown omelette and covered in country gravy with a coupe eggs on top cooked to your liking. Not for the faint of heart. I also subbed toast for a single pancake and loved it! Try it, you’ll like it too.
Chicken fried steak. A nice piece of meat battered and fried up golden and delicious. Red skinned taters with peppers and onions and sourdough toast! YUM!
Meatlover’s Omelette. Pretty much speaks for itself but tastes even better than it sounds. Again with the taters but a biscuit with gravy instead of toast. Nice homestyle biscuit and pretty darn good gravy make for a can’t be beat combo.
Don’s has great service, fantastic food, a mean Bloody Mary, and is pet friendly. There really isn’t a down side. Just don’t get there before me, I don’t like to wait.

Let me start off with that this place has exceptionally friendly customer service. Every person I interacted with here never felt like their niceness was forced. The hostess was running around but didn’t fail to maintain a good attitude. This place is really dog friendly. My sister and I had the privilege of being seated between several parties with the sweetest dogs in the patio, and every so often the hostess would offer treats or water to the dogs. While service was on the slower side, it was because a lot of parties and orders were taken at the same time so our food took awhile to get. Sitting in the patio without the shade wasn’t too bad. I sat with my back to the sun and while my back was hot, there was an occasional wind chill. I ordered an Avocado Eggs Benedict with Hash Browns, Salsa and the Hollandaise sauce on the side. I also had a Hot Chocolate. I’m an Eggs Benedict newb and ordering the Hollandaise on the side was a great idea since it was on the buttery side. Not a bad thing but I felt like it would be overwhelming if it was smothered all over like a usual Eggs Benedict. The salsa is freshly made and with eaten with the avocado makes the dish taste refreshing. I’m glad I followed the waitress recommendations on this. The hot chocolate was good. I thought it was nice that they offered to pour coffee into my drink and joked it would turn into a mocha.
The parking lot is small and the bathroom was eclectic but I feel like the service overshadowed that. I liked my experience when I came here for Saturday morning brunch and I would be happy to come back.

Friendly welcome from everyone. Great choice on an extensive menu. Super service. Good coffee. Amazing food! Can you do any better? I think not! The stuffed hash browns are soooooo good! Crispy hash browns with bacon, avocado & Jack cheese with hollandaise on top. Served with a fresh buttermilk biscuit! I skipped the eggs on top and couldn’t finish it! The Denver Omelette got rave reviews as did everything ordered by group. The wait staff are fast efficient and super friendly. Highly recommend to all who who like home style atmosphere and good cooking! Our waitress Carolyn was brilliant too!

Great food, fast & friendly service. Our first time stopping by and it was great, we had 4 adults and 1 small child in our party. We had the Eggs Benedict Bea & Avocado breakfast. Our waitress (blonde lady we didn’t catch her name) was Super friendly, always smiling and kept us refilled on coffee and any other needs. The entire staff was AWESOME!!!

This place was so awesome for breakfast that we are here 2 days in a row! The food is awesome and the service could not have been better.
I had the same thing both days… the ABC omelette, wheat toast, and tomato slices. My husband had the eggs Benedict both days.
We don’t live in the area, but we will do breakfast there every time we are in town!

Updating review :(…yikes! Burned bacon on the BLTA! Also, there was hardly any bacon on the sandwich this time. The Ruben tasted like a Ruben … but the meat was like jerky! Hope this is just a bad day here.
GREAT FOOD! Yum!!! Ty was our waiter, we liked him immediately when he asked if he could lightly toast the bread for me. Ha! I know… it seems silly, but you’d have to of been there, it was kind and caring. Ty was an EXCELLENT waiter! All the waiters are very personable. Don’s Country Kitchen uses high quality ingredients. It doesn’t look like the kind of place that would. It looks more like an old Denny’s. Don’s is in the rotation! JUST LOVE THIS PLACE. Auggie (the Chef) made the BEST BLTA we’ve ever had!!! Seriously… It was FANTASTIC! I want to go there right now and eat another one! It was that good!
They offer French fries, homemade potato chips and potato salad. All were good. But the potato chips were unusually tasty!

It was our first time eating here and will definitely not be our last. I had their famous stuffed hash browns and it was amazing!!! From the friendly staff and the homey atmosphere and great food, everything was awesome!!!

We are fortunate enough to live right up the street from Don’s. The food is absolutely delicious! We’ve never been disappointed!
BEST biscuits and gravy in all of San Diego! I dare you to try and find better! Pancakes and waffles bigger than your face. Fluffy omelettes with fantastic fixin’s, or create your own if you choose. The Benedict’s, well let’s just say you will be delightfully surprised at how perfect their hollandaise sauce is!
I could go on and on. But what more can I say? My son is visiting from NY. And his immediate request is always Don’s for breakfast! This FAMILY owned business keeps the heart and soul of home cooking beating in South Oceanside!

Today my visit here was to meet up with a couple of friends for breakfast. This location is not new to me. I have eaten here once before, but Unilocal wasn’t in my life yet.
I have passed this location after that first visit, many, many times. Usually it will be the weekend when I do pass by and I will always see that it is packed. You may pass by if you are looking for the place because it is set back from the street, as the other businesses around them are not.
WARNING: Parking in the parking lot is an issue, maybe about 10 – 15 spots, and they are small spots. So if you have a long vehicle or towing, look for street parking.
For breakfast today I was looking to have a hearty meal, but not heavy so I selected a Veggie Omelet. It came with hash browns and a toast or muffin. I switched the two out for a cup of fruit and a cup of cottage cheese. The omelet was perfect. Not too much cheese and not under or over cooked. I wasn’t able to finish the omelet, but maybe because I ate all of the cottage cheese and fruit.
When we walked into the building I noticed the doors were open and it was warm, a bit stuffy, so we chose to sit outside, a bit cooler, just a bit. Later it became humid, but that was just as we were leaving, perfect timing!
One of my friends I was here with is a regular. I mentioned to her that the servers are so friendly, and this was up until we were ready to leave. She said they are very nice, and always that way. What a nice way to set the tone of your meal. Keep up the great service and food. You will find me here again.

I live very near this establishment, and the weekend smells always taunt me in my home. I can see the line from my home, as well, however, so it took me a while to just bite the bullet and give it a go.
I LOVE a good brunch spot.
I shouldn’t have gone. Not because this place was bad — but because now I KNOW what is –right there– and I can’t just avoid it as easily any longer.
Get the Bea’s Benedict and a double Bloody Mary for the perfect morning of gluttony. I have dreams about how tasty they both were, and I certainly felt the bloody mary VERY well after my meal.
The entire menu looks fantastic. The décor reminds me of my mom’s house in Missouri. The service was very nice all-​around.
The only downfall is the price of a breakfast. I think our total came out to $ 42 pre-​tip. Two drinks and two breakfasts. It’s a bit steep.
