We rented and prepaid for a beach wheelchair for our visit to Ocean City NJ. I am recently disabled and wanted to enjoy a nice vacation with my family. When we arrived at the hotel the wheelchair had not been delivered as promised. When I called, i was told that the wheelchair was actually not available for the week(although I had prepaid for it). At that point, all of the other places in Ocean City and the surrounding areas had rented all of their beach wheelchairs out for the week. While my husband and two children enjoyed the beach, I could not go with them. They were not particularly apologetic, and they did not make ANY effort to help me find another wheelchair in the surrounding area. Thanks surf buggy for ruining our first family vacation during what has been a very stressful year.

I can’t really rate this company on the quality of their rentals, because we didn’t actually rent anything from them. I am giving them one star due to the way their staff handled a customer service-related mix-up. My mother, who is 65 and disabled, called this company to rent a mobility scooter for the week. She hadn’t realized they are located in Ocean City, NJ and not Ocean City, MD where we were staying. However, when she told the staff which hotel we were staying in, which was only a few blocks away from their office based on the street numbers(8th St and 12th St), they indicated that they knew exactly where it was and that the scooter would be delivered before we arrived. Upon arrival to our hotel in OC, MD, we discovered that the scooter had not been delivered. My mother called, and they told her that they couldn’t find the hotel – even though they specifically told her when she had made the initial order that they knew where it was. They had not bothered to call her back when looking for it, either. They simply charged her credit card for the rental, didn’t deliver it, and I guess waited to hear from her. When she called to inquire where it was and realized her mistake, they gave no explanation as to why they stated they knew where our hotel was. She realized that she was the one who had erred, but they were VERY rude to her. The staff member who spoke with my mother even stated«We’ll refund your money AS A COURTESY, but next time get your cities straight because we are now stuck with this scooter all week.» Really? As a courtesy? Maybe if they had told us they DIDN’T know the location of the hotel we were staying at, the whole mess could have been avoided. And they were stuck with the scooter for a week? As if someone else wouldn’t just rent it? They were just upset that they lost money. And I’m sure that’s not the first time someone has called Ocean City, NJ rather than Ocean City, MD by accident, especially if they live 300 miles away like us. After we had that scooter cancelled, we immediately called Scooters-4-Rent in OC, MD, and they were extremely helpful, had a scooter to us in about an hour, AND it was $ 100 cheaper to rent for the week. They also couldn’t understand why Surf Buggy Center would tell us they knew the location of our hotel when they obviously didn’t. Perhaps this place has great rentals, but their customer service is severely lacking.
