I wait for my Kohr’s Custard all year! Heaven in a cone! I adore the orange/vanilla twist, and the chocolate/mint twist. was going to try the chocolate/peanut butter twist, but I just have a thing for the chocolate mint and never got around to the chocolate pb. A tip though, if you add sprinkles and it is still pretty hot outside, you may want to have it in a cup rather than a cone. You will be wearing the jimmies and custard if you have it in a cone. lol.

I love Kohr Bros. custard. Have been going here even before I could walk. They always have the best quality items. Their staff never has an attitude and they’re always hardworking. As for the custard, it is probably the best custard I have ever had next to Kustard Corner. Go here!

There’s so many kohr bros on the board walk and I want to stop and eat at every one I pass because it’s that good. No matter what combination of flavors you get, kohr bros rarely disappoints!

You know the good thing and the bad thing about the OCNJ area is that the entire place is built on nostalgia and the false ideal that nothing changes or that just because people did X or ate at Y 20, 30 or 40 years ago it should still continue today blindly regardless of quality or price. There are several places which fall into this trap like Manco, the Crab Trap and most certainly Kohr Brothers. The custard they serve is good no doubt but a small with sprinkles costing $ 5? Come on! I don’t give a damn how good it is you can’t justify that there’s any value there or that you’re not getting hosed-ripped off-swindled-fleeced-hoodwinked-fooled-decieved-hoaxed-duped-tricked-mislead-deluded, etc. As another Unilocaler suggested you can go next door to George’s and get very good ice cream of comparable or greater size for equal or less $$$. Yes, I know that ice cream is not custard but is the stuff at Kohr Brothers really THAT good to be paying THAT much of a premium for it?(I’m sure some will no doubt say yes and if you do I bow down in homage to the tax bracket you must be in because certainly it ain’t mine.) I suppose it’s also worth noting that unlike what Sue S. said, custard being served like soft serve is not unique in the least. Chains like The Meadows in PA have been serving custard the same way as Kohr Brothers since the 50’s. The Kohr Brothers invented the idea of adding egg yolks into ice cream but by no means is the idea unique nor has it been for over half a century. Also the idea that there are rotating flavor options is also not exactly true either. It’s more or less the same thing daily with your vanilla, chocolate, orange, mint and peanut butter plus normally one other flavor like a coffee or a banana or a dulce de leche which makes six flavor choices a day. Oh boy! Spoil me! So yeah maybe once every year or two I get it so that my kids can taste Kohr Brothers but it’s a nostalgia fed rip off no doubt and while others piss their money away on overpriced custard I’ll go to George’s where I can choose from 40 or 50 flavors versus the six here or I’ll wait until I get home and go to The Meadows where I can get better custard in more interesting flavors for half the cost.

Kohr’s has been one of the shore staples in our family for years, even in spite of their constant slightly inflated prices. It is good, and we know things cost more on the boardwalk anyway. There’s rent, taxes, maintenance, etc. to think about. However, I feel that they have gotten just too greedy. The price for a small custard(basic cone or cup) is now $ 4.21 before tax. Add jimmies(kinda needed with custard) and tax, and you’re around $ 5 for a small basic portion of custard. Kohr Bros, you have crossed the line in my opinion. I can get a «kiddy» cone at Georges for $ 3 total, and it’s enough for a *reasonable* adult, and it’s excellent real ice cream. We went out for Kohrs just last night, but of the 4 of us, my pregant wife was the only one who followed through on buying anything because of a craving. Even my mother in law who is more about what she wants than what it costs was put off by this outrageous hike. The rest of us went to Georges for real ice cream at a reasonable price.

I agree with the other two reviews regarding the texture and taste of the ice cream. I prefer the orange/vanilla swirl; that to me is the most refreshing on a warm, summer night or day. However, if you do go, be prepared to spend a pretty penny. As with all establishments on a boardwalk, they gouge you with their pricing. If you are a family of 4, be prepared to spend close to $ 20 just for ice cream. If you can work that into your vacation budget I say go for it, you won’t be disappointed.

When you go to the Jersey Shore, you are bombarded with tons of Kohr Bro’s custard stands. How good could this custard really be? Spoiler: IT’S AMAZING. I decided to go for the classic vanilla custard and splurge for chocolate jimmies. The custard is thick, smooth, rich, and creamy. The best part is it’s apparently«light» so you can almost validate getting a cone and some fudge and taffy. Bottom line: GETTHISCUSTARD

Even despite the recent proliferation of frozen yogurt joints on the boardwalk, I would say pass them all up and head to a Kohr Bros stand. This is one of several on the boardwalk. I’ve been eating Kohr Bros cones since I could walk and to me, eating a Kohr Bros cone absolutely MAKES a trip to the boardwalk. There’s nothing like it and it is completely not skippable. Like all custards, this is thicker and smoother than traditional ice cream. But Kohr Bros is unique because it’s served like soft-serve out of a machine. They generally have a couple of rotating flavor options but I always go with a classic chocolate and vanilla swirl. It says summer, beach and boardwalk to me. Maybe I’m just nostalgic. Anyway, if you are a sprinkle lover DONOT miss the sprinkles. You can get rainbow or chocolate and they actually drop your whole cone in a tub of sprinkles and make sure it’s covered from head to toe. For 50 cents more, it’s totally amazing and makes a great treat even better. See my photo if you are having trouble visualizing.
