Came here 4 times over MLK weekend during a trip to Occidental. Had 2 wet burritos and 2 super burritos. All the meats were great, preference on pastor. Big slices of avocado in burritos a great addition. Staff are friendly as well!

Great service. Had the best tostadas de ceviche and grilled chicken super burrito. And the salsa that comes with the chips. Was by far the closest thing to home made that was actually spicy

Dropped in there this evening during the Fri. night market. They were super busy but got the food to us relatively fast. My taco salad was superb, the freshest and over all best I’ve had in the past year. They really do make the tastiest beans there; I wonder what their secret is?

Not very fresh or tasty. Big portions but lettuce was browning and meat and beans tasted a bit stale. Not a fan. That said, there are not many options for cheap eats in the area.

First visit I got a breakfast burrito and it was really good, but… I went back and got nachos that were not bueno. Watery cheese sauce, refritos and chicken tinga. I assumed the chicken was grilled, instead i got a warm, wet mess. I’ll be back for breakfast but not for truck stop nachos.

Went zip lining in Santa Rosa with a group of friends and after we were alll soooo hungry. At the zip lining location we ask for good food and they recommended«el mariachi» glad we chose the place:)

small place in a small town. few seats inside and few seats outside on the patio overlooking the trees. decent sized menu. ordered the super burrito with al pastor fish tacos and super nachos with carne asada. had the avocado on the side for the nachos. definitely a lot of food. burrito good size kept me full. fish tacos had so much fish. it was plentiful! just 2 tacos but it felt like 4. the nachos good size. everything good portions for the price. all that food for about 23 bucks. the chips and salsa in the beginning was crispy and spicy. loved it. had to ask for more for the burrito! it was just that good. came here because the howard place was cash only. good thing i came here. super satisfied. couldn’t move afterwards. hah

YUM! This place has really really improved over the last year. Very small so I mostly order to go, but food is consistently good! Their pastor is authentic and very tasty, in tacos or a burrito. The staff is always friendly. Salsa is a little watery but everything else is great!

Vegan here; nope, nothing on the menu is vegan! The beans may have«no meat or lard» added so they say, but the burrito shell will be lightly toasted on a grill covered in lard, and anything grilled will have lard added by default because they are slapping it on the grill in cupfuls. What I don’t like the most is that they swore there was no lard or meat on the burrito several times. Several times sick here! VEGANSBEWARE!!! There is no Vegan training, no McDouggle menu, no guarantee that this food is animal free. I would never eat here again although I live just down the street. After talking to them about it they just won’t change it, shrug it off, and they don’t need my business or any VEGAN business there. There’s other places better than this in this town for vegans just next door!

The people were nice. But the food was not very good. The nachos were terrible… It tasted like the used caned cheese. The cheese was not at all melted in my burrito… It was just shredded cheese inside. I was pretty disappointed.

My dining experience at Mariachi only goes one way, in five steps. 1. Order burrito regular(raygoolar) and ask for one salsa, one pico de gallo with the chips. 2. Buy 2 organic avocados at Bohemian Market across the parking lot. 3. Drive up the hill to cabin in the redwoods where small parrot greets me with soft, excited screeches before I reach the door. 4. Mash avocados in bowl, mix in salsa, pico de gallo, and pinch of salt. 5. Eat, die, go to heaven.

Best take out in town! I wish they were bigger and had a full bar but this must have Mexican is wonderful. The burrito a la diabla is my favorite burrito in Northern California! Their home made salsa is amazing! I don’t opt for meat in my burrito but the shredded chicken is wonderful.

Stayed at the Occidental Inn right across the street while here for a wedding. We went to Howards and spent WAY too much on a breakfast burrito that didn’t taste right. Then went to El Mariachi the next day for brunch and got exactly what I was craving. Mexican breakfast, half the price, done right. Superb. (Oh! And they take cards! The other place was cash only.) But that big, dog-friendly patio under the trees… perfect way to start the day!

This place is a gem off the beaten path in Occidental. Every time I’ve been there the food is outstanding, and an excellent value for the money. Plus you can eat outside when the weather is nice. Tonight’s enchilada dinners were delicious and I was surprised when my husband brought them back as take-out that there were three enchiladas in each, not the usual two you get in most places. Best hidden taqueria ever!

I am a local and get take out from El Mariachi often. I also enjoy eating on the little patio. We are nearly always very pleased with the quality of the food. A time or two, I found there was too much salt or black pepper. Usually we order the shredded chicken burrito, or al pastor burrito. The al pastor has a very nice flavor with just the right herbs and spices. The tacos are great. A cold glass of horchata is refreshing to go with a spicy entrée. After reading the other reviews, I plan to get the tamales and some of the other choices. They do a fantastic job working out of their tiny kitchen. I am very happy to have them in Occidental!

My beloved insisted on stopping in Occidental for lunch at El Mariachi after spending a few days in the Russian River area. We had been there before, loved our lunch. I reluctantly agreed, not because the food wasn’t good, but because I wanted to try a different restaurant. He won. Wow! I just ate the best tamales I have ever, ever eaten! The dough was light and fluffy with a hint of spice. The fillings, one vegetable and one carnitas were excellent. There were a lot of veggies, and a lot of meat, both savory and well spiced. My husbands Camarones al Diablo were also good. He wanted a few more shrimp in his lunch because he was so happy eating it. We’ll go back anytime we are in the area!

My husband and I stopped in here today when the restaurant we originally wanted to go to was closed. What a fortunate thing! Although small, this little gem is totally family run and there is love of what they do at this place everywhere you turn. From friendly service to out of the ordinary menu choices to homemade salsa made from tomatoes which we saw lined up on the grill for roasting before their transformation. There are outstanding burritos, with some surprises, Ceviche and Tortilla Soup, all not to be missed. YUM!
