This is not a taco truck, this is a claw-your-way-up-from-the-bottom taco stand. The food is earnest, greasy, and yummy, and the experience is as authentic as it gets(coming from someone who grew up in the neighborhood). 3 Stars: * Great Entrepreneurial Story * Full-on Flavors from the Heart * Authentic Street Food Experience — Small Stove Can Make Quality Inconsistent — No Fridge, So Loss of Quality by Nightfall THESTORY Originally the owner, Salvador, set up his stand a block and a half down on E 16th in front of a small apartment complex, and drew power from a nice neighbor that was nextdoor. Folks would line up on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights for super tasty tacos, seated on an old picnic table, with simple folding chairs, or on a rundown couch that was abandoned under a tree. Soon his little operation drew too much attention and the apartment landlord forced him to leave. Undaunted, the taco stand allied with the new Mi Carnal market on the corner and began chapter 2, which brings us to today. THEFOOD The appeal of this taco experience is feeling and tasting the struggle of trying to make it happen on a sidewalk of an East Oakland neighborhood, and thus, the tacos are all heart. The tortillas were tender, the salsa sufficient, and the complex spices were on point, but the the bites of pork were a bit on the dense side and slightly burnt. I’m not sure if this is because I got there too late, or because he had his burner on too hot, but this feature distracted from the fabulous flavors that I’m sure would’ve made them five star tacos if prepared under better circumstances. THEVERDICT But is this experience going to stop me from going back? Oh hell no! The tacos are still way better than a lot of the other trucks in the area, and the al pastor is on the same level as Saigon deli Sandwich(look it up) if only the cook had a nice kitchen with more controlled heat instead of a small stand with propane. I plan on going back earlier in the day hopefully when the meat is more fresh. I’m sure the depth of flavor that comes through in the food comes from this man’s struggle to make a life for himself in the United States and so I’m definitely going to try to give him repeated business and hope you will do the same. FINALDETAILS: + My plate of five tacos featured a generous portion of grilled onions, radishes, and carrots. + There was a small roasted pepper included, that I wish was bigger because it was delicious. + Try the chorizo taco – you’ll either love its decadence it or be overwhelmed by it.

Best tacos I’ve had in a while just like Mexico, the Stand is small not so big like a taco truck, which means they cook the food in front of you, tiny tortillas line in Mexico best flavor ib meat. Oh did i mentioned tjey have fish and shrimp tacos
