As we all know, Oakland’s flatlands can be pretty shady.
So shady, in fact, that a lot of gas stations actually lock up their pumps at night.
We’ve just moved to the Oakland Hills back in January, so we’re still learning which parts of Oakland are considered unsafe and which are fine. (Step 1: Identify the 100-​block radius in Mayor Jean Quan’s plan to tackle crime.)
Anyway, we regularly use the GasBuddy app to find relatively cheap gas, and this place was the cheapest in the area. I was expecting it to be especially shady at 11:30pm, but it was pretty decent and relatively empty. Just us and 2 other cars, both parked in front of the mart as opposed to the gas pumps.

quik stop’s gas pumps here are continuously occupied. maybe cuz their price is the cheapest in this part of town. (near laurel).
