I’ve shopped at Pretty Penny since I moved to Oakland in 2006. I’ve gotten nearly ALL of my favorite pieces from this store — not only that, but never once have I met an employee who wasn’t knowledgeable and friendly. Quality of merchandise is HIGH. You’re not going to find any deals on slightly worn-out clothes here — just good quality, unique pieces for a fair price. I shop here for everything from everyday boots and skirts, to sunglasses I get compliments on every time I wear them, to formal gowns. Extra tip — if your feet are bigger than a size 9 like mine, Pretty Penny is one of the only spots you can go to consistently find vintage shoes in our size. Make sure to visit the store, but if you can’t, check out their Instagram, and just try to resist!

Pretty Penny put a smile on my face this afternoon. After locking eyes with a fabric I loved, I walked out of the dressing room a bit defeated that the jacket was too big. Amanda pops out from behind the cabinet to help fold the sleeves under to reveal this jackets true potential. She’s an expert, they all are. You’ll be sure to find your next vintage favorite at Pretty Penny.

As I’ve gotten older, my style has become a lot more, well… boring. There’s almost nothing I love more than a loose pair of jeans and a big sweater. Don’t even get me started on how much I hate bras. Tomboy chic is my goal, so I never thought Pretty Penny would have anything plain enough for me, with their«pretty» theme. Come Halloween, my style rules change and I was in the market for a vintage nightgown to perfect my Betty Draper S1 costume. I called Pretty Penny, and they filled me in on their nightgown inventory. I ended up finding a cute frilly pink nylon blouse for $ 22, which is oh-so Betty(legit from the 60s!) While I browsed, I admired the well-organized rows of 50s, 60s, and 70s pieces. The dresses were especially stunning — in fabrics and cuts you just don’t see these days. If you’re shopping for a special occasion event(and I don’t just mean Halloween) you could find a real gem at Pretty Penny. Prices are moderate, with a lot in the $ 40 – 60 range. To take home a piece of history, and look fierce at the same time is a total win. Holiday party season, I’m ready for ya! They’ve got a small section of vintage men’s clothing too… AND some super fun sunglasses to compliment any vintage piece.
