So i just tried the new online ordering system. It seemed simple and intuitive. I think I liked it more because I could easily see/select my pizza’s toppings. Okay so here’s the reason for the update: The Bad: — i placed my order online at 12:30pm today(sunday). Granted it’s not open until 1:00, I didn’t receive my order until 2:00PM. This was after calling them twice to check on an update.(minus half star) — I had a printed off coupon for a free rib sandwich but I wasn’t able to redeem it because they didn’t have any ribs. This isn’t that big of deal, especially since it would’ve been free, but my main issue is that I didn’t find this out until the delivery drive let me know when he handed me my order. A quick phone call or a chicken sandwich replacement would have been fine. I wonder if they would’ve called me if i placed a paid order for the ribs.(minus half star) — When I opened up my half chicken meal I dove right in and tore into the chicken. I was disappointed to find out that it was dry and the middle of the chicken was COLD! Was this reheated? Was it old? Strange. This wasn’t normal(minus 2 stars) The Good: — The pizza was awesome as always! Garlic sauce with bbq chicken and portobello mushrooms is the best! Great taste. Next time I want to try this with the truffle oil(4 stars) — I got a free cookie and desert thing(probably because I kept calling asking about my order or maybe not :)(half star) — I got so frustrated with everything that I decided to call the«manager» of the store minutes after biting into my chicken. I ended up speaking to one of the owners. He listened patiently to my issues and was very sympathetic. He ended up refunding my money for the meal. In this case it wasn’t about the money but more about the broken expectations. He told me to give him a call personally the next time I ordered. awesome way to handle a frustrated customer(2 stars) Note, my star math is just a way for me to weight the good and the bad. In the end I still love the food and appreciated the way the owner responded to my complaints. I’ll be ordering from here again in the future. I’ll just be a little more cautious when it comes to ordering the chicken.

Thank you Popo’s Pizza for proving that someone can deliver good pizza to Oakland. Our favorite is the BBQ Pesto Chicken. Plus the nicest delivery guys I’ve ever talked to.

GREAT service — phone conversation was really friendly. Delivery was prompt and also very friendly. Pizza was yummy. Crust was thin, not soggy, and ingredients were fresh and well dispersed throughout the pizza. And, the prices are really reasonable. I will definitely be ordering from you again!

Good price & super yummy! My favorite is their BBQ Pesto chicken pizza. Who put’s gouda on their pizza? Popo’s and it’s goudalicious! Their service is excellent, and they are actually sincere and genuine. It’s definitely worth a trip to West Oakland, there’s no pizza like it! The inside of the place has simple dine in seating, however I usually wait for my order to take hope. If you find yourself doing the same, seriously, check out the local art work they have up –a nice touch of brilliant color, humor, and style.

Can I tell you something? I’m REALLY glad Popo’s is here. There’s a gigantic difference in east coast pizza versus west coast pizza, and so far I’ve had some SERIOUSLY disappointing pizza’s since moving to California! However, Popo’s was a fantastic find! They’ve never let me down yet(so don’t start, Ok guys?!) I love their selection of toppings. or not as many toppings, if that’s what you go for. My favorite is the Popo’s Italiano. I love the pesto sauce, giant blobs of fresh mozzerella, basil, and sliced roma tomatoes. The first time we ordered it, I remember saying«WOW, this actually tastes… dare I say. HEALTHY!» It was amazing. Must have been the freshness. And while the crust isn’t my «favorite» kind of crust, it’s still really good. There’s just enough sauce/toppings to crust ratio, and I like that when you bite into the crust, you don’t break your jaw. You can actually eat and enjoy it! The pizzas are also seriously huge. We get the large, and it easily feeds four hungry adults!(or the two of us, for two days. ha!) I’m also going to fully admit that the added bonus of a free dessert on occasion certainly doesn’t hurt. They know how to butter up the customer. :) And can I say, the cookies are outstanding! They’re located pretty close to our neighborhood, so that some nights we call for pick-up, but sometimes we’re just too lazy to make the 10 minute drive, and they’re happy to deliver. I’ve never gotten a cold pizza from them, so. so far, so good! The staff is always really friendly on the phone, too. they make me feel like they’re happy that I’m ordering from them! Hooray! Pizza! [Hey, I get excited about that. great customer service is hard to find these days!] I haven’t tried their BBQ yet, but if their pizza is any indication, I’m sure it’s delicious. I’ll add an update after I’ve tried it. I have a coupon for their BBQ that’s calling my name!

On a windy night, my wife and I were pedaling hard through West Oakland, tired and hungry and lamenting the lack of simple pizza joints between Middle Harbor Shoreline Park and our place. And then, after a spur of the moment decision to turn onto 8th Street, Popo’s emerged like a beacon in the night, complete with new bike racks out front. We took a chance based on its bright interior and cheery logo and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was super nice, and we had to wait for our Italiano pizza but that’s because they made it to order. The price was right(we East Coast transplants always kvetch about $ 20 California pizzas). $ 11 for a pie that we petite but famished ladies could demolish but still feel satisfied. We were treated with a free strawberry shortcake for dessert. The décor was weird — bad art for sale, a plastic skeleton by the door, an unfinished bathoom — but we still felt like we were in a place trying really hard to please its customers. Only downside, which I hate to report — the pizza actually wasn’t great. It was fine, but too much bland cheese. Still, it hit the spot and if we’re ever biking by again, we’ll stop for a slice.

Yum! After being handed a gratis slice of veggie pizza pie last week while BF was shopping, we were super stoked to hear Lanesplitter’s had opened a joint near Lakeshore/Grand and were now delivering… or so we thought. Not yet. They’re still working on it. BUT… this misunderstanding led us to a search for other pizza for delivery in the Lake Merritt area. And we were bored with our usual standbys and had a taste for something different… which is when I landed on the Popo’s reviews. Perfect. We ordered a large«Tozu» pizza(cream sauce, garlic, basil, cheese, roma tomatoes, zucchini, salt & pepper). Delivery took about an hour and 10 minutes which we thought was fine for a Friday night. The guy who took our order as well as the delivery guy were super nice. The delivery guy even added, «Your pizza smells super good!» which was odd but was said in such a sincere way it didn’t seem phony. They also(as other reviews mention) threw in a free strawberry shortcake dessert with granola topping. The pizza was super tasty. We both agreed we would order it again in a heartbeat. The veggies were plentiful and super fresh. The sauce was excellent and not too heavy as I had worried. BF thought the crust was a little bland however I was into it. It has a bit of a sweet flavor and is very thin. I usually don’t eat my pizza crust however I ate all of this one. The dessert was so-so, we didn’t finish it and it was a little overly sweet but. it was free! So who cares? And we agreed the price was cheaper than the last three places we ordered from. And. we had leftovers that lasted us through to the next day for breakfast and dinner! What a deal. Overall: awesome pizza, awesome service, awesome prices. Oh, and did I mention their adorable logo? A 70’s looking mushroom right up my alley? I think I’m in love…

This pizzeria is awesome. we ordered the Sassy Chicken pizza and were very impressed. The ingredients are fresh, natural, we could tell nothing was artificial or processed. The crust was so tasty. Not to mention the BBQ chicken and ribs were to die for. They had an excellent home cooked taste, and it was obvious some time and heart was put in to this food. To top our full bellies off we got a giant homemade mouth watering cream puff. The service was excellent and the owners were very personable and friendly. They definatly made us feel welcome in there restaurant. They can count on having us back at Popo’s Pizza again!

We were hungry for pizza last night, so we actually came to Unilocal to figure out where to go for pizza in Oakland — we wanted to try something new. Well, Unilocal did us proud because based on the reviews here we picked Popo’s pizza and couldn’t be happier. We called at 4:15 for a 5:15 pickup and it was ready right on time. The staff were super friendly and we even got a free sample of some yummy cream puffs. But what about the pizza, you say? Excellent, I say. We tried the Popo’s Prosciutto with cream sauce, cheese, prosciutto, zucchini, salt & pepper. First of all, it looked beautiful — you could tell that care went into this pizza. There was a generous amount of prosciutto and the zucchini was sliced heavenly thin. It wasn’t greasy at all, the crust was fresh, light, and ever so slightly sweet — what more could you ask for? Delicious! Yum! mmmm… we ate the whole thing in 5 minutes flat. I can’t wait to try their other pizzas. I’m writing a review because I want them to stay in business and to that end, we’ll be going back there for all our pizza needs in the near future.

Can I say that i LOVE Popo’s pizza? This is no ordinary pizza shop. When you enter into this little unassuming shop in West Oakland, you are going in to meet some crazy and awesome friends. And by crazy I mean Jason and awesome I mean Betty ;) So basically you develop a relationship with the people who own this joint when you order from there. LOVE them! Not only is the service great, but the pizza is FRESH, DELICIOUS, and SAVORY! They have all kinds of crazy concoctions. But they are OHSODELICIOUS! Fresh because their ingredients definitely does not taste like it came from a can. Delicious because well because it’s delicious. And savory because the taste is SO rich. The pizza doesn’t leave you with a nasty greasy feeling at all. Every bite is like a party in your mouth.

I just tried Popo’s for the first time a few weeks ago; hilarious order/delivery request conversation, an inventive, delicious pizza(sassy chicken), and they even threw in a free gourmet cookie and green salad! I will return!

I find it completely ridiculous that it’s as hard to find delivery as a downtown Oakland resident as it truly is. My fella spent all afternoon out at a rainy Raiders game and arrived at my apartment soaked, cold, and tired, so we needed to order in. In my eight years as an Oakland resident, I’ve NEVER had a satisfactory ordering in experience, so I looked at him skeptically when he suggested it – but there was no way I was going to go out in the rain, either. We called up Pizza Rustica and they reported, annoyingly, that they«don’t deliver to downtown Oakland after dark». WTF Rustica!!! We’re not going to kill you in the downtown O when you’re bringing us pizza! Whatever, fools, your loss of an easy sale! Stay in Rockridge! We kept looking, and happened upon the Popo’s Pizza website. I called up and ordered the Sassy Pizza and some cookies. The Sassy was fantastic, and we also received an extra salad, cookies, and a candy cane! I’ll definitely be ordering from Popo’s again. They arrived in less time than they said they would, weren’t afraid of downtown after dark, and were downright affordable. They were lifesavers on this cold, bleak night! Thanks, Popo’s!

8pm hunger attack! browsed Unilocal for local delivery spots and I find Popo’s. I was sick of oaklandpizzaman so I decided to try my luck once again. Ordered a Portabella mushroom, sasuage, fresh tomato, and pepporoni pizza and the large order of ribs. The pizza was thin and not hot enough, I don’t think they use hot bags to keep the food warm for delivery. Also the pizza is thin so it won’t retain the heat well. Reasonable but I hope they use something to keep them pizzas warm, soon! The toppings were great except the portabella mushroom was like shredded, no whole slices! I couldn’t taste the mushroom unless I took the little booger off and popped it in my mouth all alone, now what fun is that! Next time I order I am gonna«STRESS» them to put whole slices on the pizza. seriously, each slice had like 3 – 5 boogers of portabella on them but everything else was plentiful. Ok the ribs won my heart over. it came with 7 ribs with lots of meat on the bones. Their dry rub was tasteful enough where you could eat the rib without sauce. Juicy and cooked just right. Not smoked but there service and ribs are way better than Everret, Doug’s and all the other small joints in Oakland. I believe it was bettey herself and some guy who drove her over, I don’t blame her for bringing a body guard to my place in West Oakland. There was also a box full of Mac’n cheese but not enough cheese flavor and i rather have a baked crust on top then chopped green onions. The slad was good but the dressing container tipped over and spilled all over everything, too much! I will tell them on the next order. And I did not get any Mango/Pineapple salad!!! I seen them in the pictures with the rib plate! Overall I can dig it, the pizza is good when reheated and the RIBSYO! *edit* I forgot it also came with a candy cane and walnut cookie!

I LOVETHISPIZZAPLACE!!! :D It’s pretty great because the pizza, ribs, chicken, EVERYTHING is amazing for those who appreciate good food(i.e. older people) yet it also appeals to people who enjoy guitar hero, games, tv(i.e. younger people, typically)!! Service is always amazing and the lady who works there is SOSWEET: D last time I went, they gave me a green salad and a pen AND a cookie, great customer service =) I’d suggest coming with lots of friends and trying the different types of unique pizzas because I’m not sure if they have the gourmet pizzas available by slice. Plus, there’s plenty of space in there to throw like a mini party with guitar hero, tv, and some karaōke thing…(and i don’t think they charge for that? i’m not sure though!) I like spicy food, so I tried the spicy chicken pizza and i was surprised because it was actually spicy! =S The ribs… so juicy and tender and… *drool* . . . . . . . you should definitely try this place!

The food is DELICIOUS… The prices are VERYAFFORDABLE… The portions are HUGE, so you’re sure to have left-overs… Staff are all EXTREMELYKIND … I highly recommend Popo’s Pizza; if you haven’t already tried it, you will be hooked. Not only is the pizza some of tastiest on the west coast, but everything else on the menu is so very good. TRYTHERIBSANDCORNBREAD. And then come back for the chicken and bread pudding. And do not leave without trying one of the cookies(Jason, the owner, makes his caramel home-made). This place is so great that me and my lady are gonna be having Popo’s cater our Rehearsal Dinner next month. And the family owners(Jason, Sean, Betty) have been so nice and helpful with getting us the best menu possible at a very good price.

I’m sold. I had no idea I lived near a really nice pizza place like this(and to wonder, an aptly named pizza restaurant that doesn’t imply my greasy infatuation to the food). They said delivery would take 30 minutes and they were here in 20. The guy I talked to on the phone was the same guy who delivered it to me(and he was accompanied by somebody else), which adds a nice touch, and I don’t know why, I cannot put it into words really, I liked it. Perhaps it’s that they want to leave their customers thinking, «wow, I think they were so great to me because they want a valued customer, or did I compliment them by ordering their favorite pie to make?» So many restaurants ignore making this impression, I don’t know why. Good quality is something to be had, especially in this area. Hence, I’m sold. ANYWAYS, the pizza: We ordered a ‘Very Vegetarian,’ gouda-cheese in a not so good-a-choice garlic sauce(this is a personal preference, really, it was good, just next time I’ll be sure to get pesto or tomato), topped with portabellas and tomatoes. The presentation was fabulous, I almost never expect to open a flat cardboard box and awe at the beauty. The pizza itself was not greasy(fuck you Pizza my Heart and Pizza Love), something to appreciate in itself these days. The bread was most-excellent as a thinner crust(and I’m a fan of Chicago style). We also received a complimentary peach bread pudding and salad. Perhaps it’s just a new restaurant, and soon they’ll lose their ‘personal’ touch, soon they’ll lose their commitment to impressing their customers– their youth sucked out from boredom and under-appreciation until they just become another pizza-making machine with organic parts. I hope not, and I plan on taking advantage of this restaurant’s youth(oddly placed in West Oakland).

Wow, I so disagree with one of the previous reviewers… I have eaten their BBQ Chicken-Pesto Pizza and it was amazingly delicious! I have eaten a couple of the vegtarian pizzas too that were savory and luscious. I loved the texture and taste of the crust and all the cheeses used too! I found the service friendly, fast and everyone there to be helpfu and service-oriented. I suggest you try for yourself and see!
