I wish I had sent my review in earlier, may have saved threw place. The foods were good and it was a talkative tasting party. You could try everything on the menu before settling down on your choice. Hope the closure is short live or just went out of town for vacation. I will be driving by or checking Unilocal periodically for second hand opening.

I have NOTHING except for the highest of praises for Mo’s Hut– the most legit, and authentic not that Hawaiian BBQ/Onos/L&L BS in the heart of East Oakland. Don’t be off put by the address because this place is the real deal with actual deals for food. Parking is street parking(that’s free). It might take a bit to find some, but it’s worth the time. Pretty easily to location, there’s a giant sign that saids Mo’s Hut on the outside. It’s a small space to eat in, but there’s at least 4 tables and a counter space if you chose to. They like to be personal when it comes to taking orders, so don’t order at the window. They’ll come outside the door from the kitchen and personally take your order. There’s pictures of their food and the different specials that they offer. You take your pick and depending your the size you get, it’ll determine how much food you get. I opted for the BBQ plate which includes: beef teriyaki, bbq chicken, short ribs, potato/crab salad, AND rice. I got the largest size which is $ 12+tax which is about your regular sized take out box. But they STUFF it and you’ll get stuffed and the flavors are so wonderful. The meat wasn’t dry, super juicy and the sauce that went with it so perfectly. If you have a big appetite or you want to share, get the biggest box for your money. They take only cash and the wait really isn’t that long. I highly recommend this place especially if you want some REAL food. This is as real as it gets.

I haven’t had what many foodies refer to as a FOODGASM in quite sometime, but after eating the food from Mo’s Hut, I will proudly say that my eyes rolled back and dare I say it, my body was taken by the flavors that the food possessed! The Mo’s Special included a variety of classic Samoan delicacies: Povi/Pulu Masima: corned beef that was nothing like what I grew up eating. I’m Filipino and we ate corned beef from the can, but trust me this was nothing like that at all! It was so moist, flavorful, and tender. BBQ chicken: it was marinaded so well that the marriage of the sweet and savory bite could easily give birth to one happy baby in your belly. Chopsuey: glass noodles with a good blend of vegetables that served as a good accompaniment to break up the meat and rice. Samoan Green Bananas: two green bananas cooked in coconut milk and onion. Again, another good accompaniment to break up the meat and rice, but also gave a cooling element to the awesome meats! The BBQ plate was similar to that of a Hawaiian mixed plate you could find at other Hawaiian restaurants, but trust me, Mo’s is TEN times better! Short Ribs: If there’s one meat you HAVE to try at Mo’s, it’s the short ribs! They have the perfect blend of a special marinade that tastes like it’s one of those secret family recipes that has been passed down from generation to generation. Potato Crab Mac Salad: One bite of this and it made me wanna«slap my mama»! I would never do that, but if I could without being slapped back, I would! The hints of crab without an overwhelming amount of mayo made for a great cherry popping experience! Not only was the food ONPOINT, but the staff members were all so nice! If you’re looking to support a local Oakland, family run business, come check out Mo’s Hut! You won’t be disappointed!

First try today… Mo’s Hut. Reminded me of South Pacific atmosphere. Saw three customers happily conversing. The receptionist was courteous and patiently explain what I ordered which included EVERYTHING. Result: Excellent BBQ Plate!!! Will go again soon. ;)
Lol they dont have water cups you’d have to buy a bottle of water. I’m hella thirsty waiting on my food :/ … I take that back they gave me a bottle of water on the house when my food came out, For Hawaiian BBQ I usually hit up L and L but this is great as well. Definitely coming back when I’m thinking Hawaiian two thumbs up! Thanks!

Wasn’t that good, considering the price. I guess I’m not into the kind of Hawaiian food they do here in the mainland. I had Mo’s Special. The meat was very good, super tender and tasty. However, the chow mein, bananas, and rice were very bland and I don’t think it justifies the $ 13 dollar price tag. You do get a lot of food, probably enough for two people, but I’d rather not be the person ending up with the chow mein, banana, and rice half. The place is very quiet and nice, with seating to accomodate about 10 – 12 people. It does take some time for the food to get ready — I don’t mind that — usually it’s a good sign. If I drop in another time I’ll take a rice bowl with the teriyaki beef or bbq chicken, and maybe I’ll have a better experience.

Great people, food and service. Don’t be afraid to venture over to Mo’s in the fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland which in my opinion has a bad rap … Yes they are issues but aren’t there everywhere?! I was pleasantly greeted upon entering and felt very welcomed … Just like in the islands. I ordered the short ribs with salad, pork and rice. All very tasty, juicy and as good as I’ve had in Hawaii. There is some seating inside as well so you can eat your food while it is still hot… Plus you’ll most likely get some great conversation from Mo and his daughter. Check it out!

Good food. Good prices. Friendly service. We would give it six million stars if we could. Hawaiian plate — delicious short ribs, chicken, and teriyaki beef. Rice with that teriyaki glaze dripped on it from the meat! And a potato salad with crab! The Mo special was a delight too. The banana with coconut milk, what a treat. They come out from behind the counter to greet you and check on you while you are here.

Its really a diamond in the rough but once you walk in… Its welcoming and the smell of delicious food awaits. It was my first time there today and I was lucky to meet Moe himself. He was friendly and offered my an orange… I immediately felt like I was back home in Hawaii. The rest of the patrons we started talking story and just loved the atmosphere of aloha and alofas. Took the food home and ate my Mo’s plate(Samoan food) and its the best island food I’ve had since living back home. I bought other bowls for family and they are instant fans.

True definition of hole in the wall! When you walk in, there’s this huge bulletproof glass, not much seating space but the food more than makes up for it. I ordered option number two which comes with, two choices of meat and two sides, I had the short ribs and corn beef with rice and crab potato salad! Omg it was heaven in your mouth. The short ribs are so flavorful, the corn beef had this fat layer on top(I love fat on the meat) and the best thing was the crab potato salad! Def recommend this place, I’ll be def coming back.

I was rolling thru the Hood and I notice a New Restaurant in the Old Everett and Jones Location. MOs Hut . So I find Parking on the Street. No Parking lot, Street Only. and Strolled in . MOs is a Samoan Pacific Islander Restaurant. It is Family Owned. There’s a small dining area 4 Tables and the Counter. There’s a Wall with Bulletproof Glass that you can Place your Order at. There are 3 size Plates you can order $ 5, $ 8 and $ 12. I ordered the 3 Item BBQ and 2 Sides — Corned Beef, BBQ Short Ribs and Teriyaki Beef with 2 Scoops of Rice and Potato & Crab Salad. I paid by MasterCard. While I was waiting, I had a nice Conversation with the Owner Mo, he is from American Samoa. Really Nice guy. My food was ready 15 Minutes later it had nice sized portions. It also came with Samoan Pa Pa Bread . MOs food would do the 808 and the 684 Proud. I started with the Corned Beef it was so Moist and Tender and the Flavor was on Point. The Teriyaki Beef and Short Ribs were very Tender and Packed full of Flavor . The Potato Crab salad was so Yummy. It was a very Tasty Meal !!! The Pa Pa Bread was a great Ending to a Great Meal. I will definitely return they have great food. Servers were Friendly and Nice. MOs is Closed Sunday and Mondays. Tuesday thru Friday their hours are 10 – 7 Pm and Sat 9 – 7 Pm . Just a note they are located in East Oakland be aware of your surroundings . Years ago when it was Everett and Jones I was leaving the same location with BBQ and had a Fool try to Jack my BBQ. I had to Check Him and almost showed him my Hood Pass LOL.

Mo’s Hut doesn’t have much of a menu. sizes 5,5, 8.5& $ 12. amounts menu choices: bananae, chop suey, teriyaki, short rib, bbq chicken, etc. eats: short rib bowl(5.5) –few short ribs very sweet and well done short ribs look like the korean knd, not much meat. –portion small, so was price. take outs: –place has boarded up windows with a slot for ordering and one for dispensing food. –very informal, menu is a list of items, –adventurous diners will like it here. –no pics, just names of food served –came out within minutes 3.5 stars. not sure about value.

Wow such a hidden gem! Restaurants in east Oakland tends to scare most away. Oakland has some of the best restaurants around. So I saw this place on Unilocal and me loving food of all kinds I had to check it out. Once you walk in its a small little place. seating is limited. I recommend you order ahead so you don’t have to wait long. When you walk to the counter its in closed so you talk to the person behind the glass. The menu is simple we got the Mo’s special and the BBQ plate. Omg when you get the food it’s so heavy. They give so much food. The food is so flavorful! I will have to come back more often! Oh yeah parking is also limited.

I’m always on the lookout for new Hawaiian food or island bbq spots. Through Big Body Cisco’s Instagram plug days before, I couldn’t get this place out of my mind. Subliminal message received, I took a long lunch and headed to Fruitvale from Alameda. Let me start off by saying, Mo’s Hut didn’t disappoint. The menu offerings were simple with 3 different size options. I went big and ordered the Lg Polynesian Special, $ 12. This plate had corned beef, bbq chicken, bananas with coconut milk, chop suey, and scoop of rice. For me, this was enough for my lunch and dinner. The flavors and textures all balanced out — brined curved beef and bananas/coconut milk, well glazed bbq with rice. I’m going back soon for the Hawaiian Special.

I’d give it a 10 if I could. I love me some Mo’s Hut! I’ve gone to Hawaii every year for the past 6 years and the only place this compares to on the island is Da Kitchen in Kihei. Don’t even use L&L Kitchen and Mo’s Hut in the same sentence, this is the real deal authentic Hawaiian/Samoan food. The portion are big, food is made as you order fresh and everything is delicious. You will never find Mac salad like theirs, I promise you. It’s the BEST mac salad around. I would go there just for the Mac salad. The days of flavorless Mac salads from other«Hawaiian» food places are over. Try the Hawaiian plate to taste the BBQ chicken, short ribs, and teriyaki beef with rice and Mac salad(my favorite) It’s enough to share, or if you only have a few bucks they also have $ 5 plates. It’s a small mom and pops shop with food made by islanders. The only downside is its small size. I don’t think it can fit more than. 15 people, but if you place an order $ 50 they’ll deliver and if call in your order before you go, Mo will get it cooking right away.
