Their chocolate chunk cookies are the best! I love their pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and their morning muffins. Their sour cream coffee cake and lemon cake are quite good. It’s so great to have such a wonderful gluten free bakery practically in my own backyard!

This place has been a life saver. As I was transitioning to gluten free because I have a wheat allergy I found that it was hard to find good tasting baked goods. Mariposa came to my rescue one rainy day 2 years ago. I am so grateful to have found them. I love their cinnamon rolls, and their bread. I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all. Their biscotti is delicious as well as their pasta. There are so many other things I like that I know that I’m forgetting to mention. The staff is always friendly and courteous. Thank you for making my life a little«sweeter».

After going by Mariposa again a couple weeks ago with my new celiac friend for lunch I realized I can’t rate them as low as I initially did. I was disappointed still by the fact that the employees were just semi informed about the dairy in items. I know it is clearly marked on the signs, but all the employees need to understand when to tell a customer if an item is dairy free, nut free, soy free, etc. I ended up getting the falafel plate for lunch since that was one of the few dairy free options. I wish they had a meat sandwich that they standardly did dairy free. The only two lunch items that were dairy free were also vegan. The falafel plate was okay, I’ve definitely had better falafel when I got to a Mediterranean restaurant. That is to be expected though. For pastry items I got a cinnamon roll and some molasses earth day cookies. I loved the cinnamon roll and the molasses cookies reminded me of gingerbread cookies so they were pretty good. I will be coming back if I am in the area but I don’t think I would go out of my way to make a trip here.

Let’s be honest, having celiac disease just sucks. But then I found Mariposa and bread has re-entered my life. I stop buy once a week to stock up on bread, pastries and always lunch. Their bread is a little more expensive for«gluten free» bread but hands down the best gluten free bread out there.

Got the dairy free, gluten free chocolate mocha cake for my birthday and it was AmaZing! I had low expectations for a gluten and dairy free cake, but this was good as any other delicious bakery cake that is full of dairy and gluten. No one was initially that excited about the allergen free cake but it was a huge hit. Friends without food allergies wanted the name of the bakery. Thank you for existing Mariposa, it is appreciated!

Food: I was excited to try their croissants because gluten free buttery layers is hard to pull off. I got a plain and a chocolate, and they were both delicious for gluten free, but weren’t as flaky as I’d hoped they would be and their dough was a bit chewy. I tried a day old I had bought today and it was less chewy. Mini cupcakes were overpriced($ 18 for 2 dozen tiny cupcakes) but I liked the cake to icing ratio. If they were $ 2 less I’d feel less raped. I decided for Lunch I would have the SF steak sandwich with caramelized onions and a side salad. Looking at all the other pictures on Unilocal,my salad was significantly smaller in size and I have no idea why. The bread was really toasted and it was difficult for me to eat it was so crunchy on the outside. The meat and onions were delicious though. This brings me to the consistency of the bread. I’m not a baker, but I have had to try to bake me some gluten free bread because I have celiac disease. I also have a Croatian boyfriend’s MAMMA who refuses to allow gluten free bread to be the crux of her bread and pastry baking abilities. That being said, this bread is really dense. That’s why when it’s toasted it gets pretty chewy and crunchy on the outside. The coffee was delicious. They had all the good fixins(honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate shakers) and it’s bottomless. They offer 35% off irregular bread(which when I asked was described as bread that they inspect and if it has too many holes or large holes, it’s sent to the irregular pile and placed on discount.) Ambiance: It sucked that these guys faces were just horrible to look at at 10:30 in the morning, because I was really looking forward to eating here on my spring break day off and relaxing with my Kindle. I walked in and a kindly looking bearded guy was just mean muggin. He looked tired and seemed annoyed at my presence. He just stared at me with no salutation, waiting for me, WILLING me to choose something quick so he could go back to his brooding stance with his arm perched against a pillar. The tall, thin, blonde gentleman with impeccable cheekbones was snide, demure, and condescending; but I truly believe it was just his manner rather then him being purposefully rude, although I could be wrong. A stout, curly haired gentleman tried to press a smile on his lips, but he was also lost in brood, ignoring his lack of appreciation for the patronage of his customers. The one woman who was there, a mid twenties maven with long, curly hair, was the only one that had a smile on her face and a positive vibe. I started getting mean stares– which wasn’t too far off from the emotionless, tired, listless faces I got when I walked in. I don’t know why. This behavior was slightly less atrocious after I spent around $ 40 plus tip there and a few took the advice of my «check-in» and had a cup-o-joe. Well played sirs, well played. Environment: I appreciated that it was wheelchair accessible. The menu is clearly posted and pricing is for the most part accessible without having to ask for pricing. There are plenty of outlets. Bathroom is clean, but you have to walk through their office and break area which felt intrusive. There is a large table in the main portion and a few smaller tables towards the walls. There are benches, but the walls are extremely cold. Some pillows or seat cushions would make the place more cozy, but I’m not really sure if that’s the environment they are going for. If you plan on staying, wear layers and maybe some cozy socks. The takeaway: Yes, Mariposa is a good gluten free bakery– but what makes it good is the fact that it is large, it has options, and it can be considered completely gluten free– according to their website, they do not certify because it costs too much annually. Their treats are satisfying, and I’ll be coming back again. I’m hoping the attitude was just an off day for some.

This place is great. The food is amazing however it is, being gluten free, quite expensive. I do find myself buying less and less there than I would like too simply because it is so expensive. Everything on the menu is stellar however depending on the person preparing the meal it may or may not contain seasonal extras such as fruit, salad, etc. I think it is disappointing when paying for something like a bagel and cream cheese double that you would pay elsewhere for one made of wheat.

Mariposa is an excellent bakery for those with specific diets. Whether you’re gluten free, dairy free, nut free or even egg free, there will be sweet and savory treats here for you. They even have various breads and offer sandwiches for lunch but I haven’t tried those yet. I do love the penguinos, which are ‘cream filled’ chocolate cupcakes. You can buy them individually or they sell them as a four pack which is what I usually get. I can eat all four easily! Their version of a pop tart is pretty good too and they offer different fruit fillings. It’s good but the outer crust can get a little dry after the filling is gone. I also recommend the croutons. The staff was helpful when I had questions, and the list of ingredients for most of their offerings is on their website, which I found very cool because it helped me make a list of things I knew I wanted before I got there.

Run, do not walk here. As a celiac, this place is heaven. Everything I tried was amazing, the gobbler was perfection, and the cinnamon rolls caused an emotional moment. The Irish soda bread was also very very good. Such amazing product, staff could be friendlier, but they could yell at me for an hour as long as the hour is filled with baked goods. So much yum!

They have expanded their menu a great deal in a fairly short period of time. The service is timely, yet not particularly happy. The colors uaed to decorate the café are warm and welcoming. I am so thankful they finally expanded their café space to include multiple types of seating. I think people want to buy more when they can sit and enjoy it. The long standing penguins are as delicious as ever! The chocolate ones are so good! The chocolate donut was delicious as ever. This is the place to visit for wonderful gluten free baked good and goodies. It’s a little costly, but worth every penny for those of us who need to feel good after we eat. Thanks Mariposa!

What? This place is so special. All items are gluten free, most are soy free, a ton of vegetarian and vegan options and definitely have a ton of nut free options, all labeled. Yes, this is for those crazy ass eaters out there. You know what’s even better? The delicious baked goods are delicious. I opted for the veggie pocket and the ham and cheese pocket heated and at about $ 7 a pop, not cheap. However this gluten free hot pocket was delicious with a special high five to that warm and crisped ham and cheese. So rich and delicious. The veggie pocket was packed filled with root vegetables and more, but we opted to not heat it and I think that was a mistake as I think it would have tasted better warm. Other items include everything from cupcakes, cookies, pop tarts, to bagels, croissants, choc au pain and so on. They have an extensive lunch menu filled with delicious sound sandwiches and even some breakfast items too, including a breakfast sammie. DAMN. I’m all for gluten, but this place has a niche providing deliciousness to those with dietary and health restrictions and they’re making it tasty to boot. Limited seating, I’d say about 6 – 8 tables.

The lemon cupcakes are to die for! They’re super moist and delicious without being too sugary. Even though I’m not gluten intolerant they have a bunch of different options for breakfast and lunch too. You can get gluten-free burgers, tuna melts, pizza, quiche, and a lot more. It’s a little more expensive here then some other places, but nothing is that ridiculously priced. You have to know by now that«healthy» alternatives will coast a bit more. Service is fast, friendly, and they keep this place very clean. For you health nuts out there I would lock this bakery in your crossairs.

I do not write reviews very often but after my lunch here today, I knew I had to share this precious gem. I had the steak sandwich with caramelized onions. It was unbelievable, I could not stop smiling it was so delicious. The perfect amount of sweet and spice. The meat was tender and the bread was crunchy, just a delightful cacophony of textures and flavors which awaken the senses in my mouth. The salad was fresh and lightly dressed with oil of some kind with a hint of orange. The the best part was the penguin cupcake. It is rich and decadent, my mouth was having a tastgasim(my girlfriend and I made this term up to explain the burst of deliciousness!) I hope you give this place a visit but secretly I hope you don’t because that leaves more penguins available for me hahahahaha(maniacal laugh with evil villain music playing in the background)

Yay! Thanks for making my life complete again, Mariposa. It’s hard to find places that cater to the Celiac group. This shop is on point though! We got sandwiches and baked goods to go. I just want to thank the lone, female soldier that was manning the quickly depleting stations today on Christmas eve. That santa hat looked great with your brunette hair and I saw you totally not losing your temper even at obnoxious kids pressing their face against the glass while standing INTHEWAY and their parent said nothing. You rock, Santa should bring you something extra special this year. Oh, and my family will look forward to finding out if this dairy-free product of an old favorite will become our new favorite at Mariposa(where I consistently receive good service is a VERY hectic & snobby Ferry Building). $ 3.25 is steep for a treat, but worth it if it means we can enjoy it without indigestion. Delicious bakery with lots of gluten free options. They also serve breakfast and lunch and have a kids menu for those of you with little ones. Seems like this place is always busy but people mostly grab and go so you will have a table to sit at.

Not even a hello or a thank you at this place. Yeah we bought day old bread and a small pastry, but the judgment here is so strong that I felt like a second class citizen. Every paying customer should be valued no matter their skin tone or how much they spend. Or maybe the employees just hadn’t had their coffee yet. Either way, their customer service could use revamping.

The gluten free haven! This place has really grown since they first opened a few years ago — I love the new interior and eating areas, and the selection has increased nicely. Some of my favorites include the ham and cheese pockets, the danishes, and my new favorite — the pita bread. They also have a bunch of seasonal things now for halloween! The staff is always nice, and the inside of the place is comfortable to sit and eat your lunch/dinner/snack/whatever. There’s wifi now too if you’d like to work, although it doesn’t really have that type of atmosphere. The downsides: 1. It’s a weird location — it really isn’t too walkable from many places and is in a weird lot. 2. It would be nice if they had more outdoor seating. Obviously the location part doesn’t help, so that’s kind of understandable. 3. I make better empanadas(not to be said for pretty much everything else made here!). This isn’t really a totally negative comment(because they are delicious), my point is just that they should look into the Joy of Cooking recipe :)

First off, if you don’t have true gluten allergies(which very few do) then your not in need of this place. If that’s the case I’d say run as fast as you can. I thought trying the place that’s supposed to be the gold standard of gluten free baked goods I’d be served edible and non cardboard tasting gluten free foods. That was not the case! The pretzel was tasteless and pretty firm. Didn’t taste remotely like a soft pretzel or bread. More like a stiff old pita bread. The chocolate chip cookie was decent but still not like a real or remotely similar flavor of a chocolate chip cookie. The cupcakes were similar to muffins and the icing was so interesting. I can’t compare it to much other than a sugar cream. Not horrible but just not really edible. I was with some hippie pals and they thought its was gross as well. Hippie’s love this stuff so I thought it would be a winner. I’m not one for doing something just to be «different«so despite the good idea behind this spot it really misses the mark in terms of being a good bakery. I’m blessed I don’t have to eat this for a health reasons. For those that do it for the trend, go someplace else or make it yourself. I think people rate this highly out of not having tasted good gluten free products.

For years, I’d had Mariposa Baking Company bookmarked here on Unilocal.The other weekend, I happened to be flying out of the Oakland airport and it was finally my opportunity to stop by. Now, I’m hooked! The gluten free baked goods here are among the best I’ve ever had, and the selection is amazing. There’s lemon cake, lemon poppyseed muffins, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, cheese danishes, bread rolls, and so so much more. The cinnamon rolls beat the gluten free ones I used to get in Chicago, and the lemon cake tastes just like Starbucks’(from what I remember…). The only con is that the bread can get dry after a day or two, so wrap those pastries well for travel! For those who say it’s expensive: what gluten free bakery isn’t? And this place is actually half the price of big names like Babycakes or Tulu’s in NY. Everything I’ve tried, I’ve loved! And it would take a long long time to try everything they have. Luckily, my dad has committed to bringing me Mariposa treats every time he visits me, so it’s just a matter of time! Seriously, go check this place out. Now!

Shop here mainly for my wife who is gluten intolerant. Still, I can’t help trying their treats. Delicious! A dedicated Gluten Free Bakery… didn’t know they existed. Now my wife can enjoy a morning Danish or Bear Claw with her cup of joe. I go there and stock up(We live in Pt. Richmond) and help her deplete our inventory… LOL. Anyway, for the cookies, Danish and squares, cant be beat so far. Haven’t tried the sandwiches and such… but do want to try the cupcakes… Hey, a happy wife = a happy life

The one thing I’ve missed most since going gluten free is the everything bagel. Everything bagels remind me of my childhood and I’d like to thank Mariposa Baking Company for enabling me to relive those precious Sunday morning bagel brunches with my family. It was SO good. And I ordered a side salad because they are always deliciously dressed. After those delicious endeavors I indulged in a warmed up chocolate croissant. YUM. YUM. YUM. God bless this place. I am so happy that there is a gluten free community out there creating delicious foods and treats for people who thought they’d never be able to have them again. This is gluten free Mecca, seriously. I’ll be back, like tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow. And the… Ok stop talking. I’ll be back a lot!

A pretty decent tuna melt on some quite good sourdough rye. I kinda wish they griddled it though to give it a bit of a greasier crust. The tuna wasn’t hot all the way through and a finish on the griddle might finish that. This café is made cute too if you’re in to that kinda thing.

I always enjoy coming here when I have to take a trip to Oakland! The other day, I dropped my boyfriend off at the Oakland Airport and came here straight away! This may be the only place in the world that makes a decent gluten free croissant. I love the 35% off day old bins — I usually grab a bagel on the way out too. My only complaint/wish is that the coffee is kind of lame. It’s organic drip, and I’m sure they mean well, but it would be AWESOME to have espresso drinks too. Then I would be totally obsessed. They are very knowledgable of allergies of all sorts, so you can talk to the bakery peeps and they know what you’re talking about when you say you’re nut free, soy free etc. :)
