I’m giving these folks 4 stars for keeping it real in the new frontier of «artisan» foof baked goods. Some people commented about rude service but everyone has been nice to me so far. I’ve only tried the yellow cake. it was a little dry, but the flavor was good. Next time I’d get German chocolate or red velvet. They have a limited amount of flavors but they use their original family recipes so it figures you won’t find any unicorn mousse or hipster pie around here. support your local black-owned family business!

The baked goods are great. My problem is with the service. I have stopped in on at least four occasions in the last three months and they were out of cake slices. Last night l got there at 6 pm. Line out the door and the case empty. Unfortunately other businesses would rather make more to satisfy customers rather than disappoint them. I’ve never been to Kara’s cupcakes and they just shrugged and said«come back tomorrow«. I love supporting black business but it’s sad that black business doesn’t truly find value in their customers.

I bought a 7up cake and a lemon ice box pie and it was the best forty dollars I’ve ever spent. The people were nice and friendly. I’m definitely going back I need to try the sweet potatoes pie and bananna pudding next time.

It really is, All Good! I love this place! My favorites are the pound cake and the sweet potato cake! The owner and the staff are super friendly! On Christmas Eve, they had search lights outside of the building, and they were open until 10pm for last minute folks like me! Need I say more? I love this place!

i’m embarass to say that today was my first time trying this place. I’ve been in the area for many years and finally looked into the history of the Black Panthers and did a mini walking tour within a few blocks. fortunately, this was one of the stops. The pies are absolutely amazing. I’ll be back many more times!

For thanksgiving I had to wait in line 4 hours to purchase sweet potato pies. I’ve come to this bakery for years and have never had to wait in line that long before. I highly recommend pre-ordering. I also hope the bakery finds a way to more efficiently make sure they can produce enough product to meet the demand.

I tried to review on my Unilocal app but that doesnt seem to work… I am rating because ive actually been eating here for years and stopped around 2008⁄9 bc the decline in good service after having a serious taste for their PEANUTBUTTERCOOKIE! aw man yeah i sweetened up for the next couple of days, i came back each day… in all i may have gotten about 4 cookies and shared two. they went back to the kind of service i like but wont rely on it too much. this is the type of place id pick up some goodies if i know i want to impress a friend at a party or something by bringing its all good bakery cookies. one thing about it, i didn’t seem to be unhappy with the price which is usually my problem with these types of places. and am happy about the realization of their Oakland history. keep up the good work

I cannot stand that person who«blessed» me with a sweet potato pie from this bakery. Now i find myself forgoing shopping to by ingredients to make my own. I drive 30 minutes and stand in line for 30 minutes in order to purchase the amazing sock-it-to-me cake, pecan pie and the amazing sweet potato pie. I’m hooked and it wonderful to know its a local business hiring local people. The days of costco deserts are long gone.

Very unprofessional. Very aggressive about payment in full and if it is a phone order there is a $ 2 charge. A charge for what. When you go to pick up your order they tell you your cake is in the oven and your waiting for what you already pre-ordered and paid for. The cakes are delicious but the service is horrible. I will take my business elsewhere. And asking for full payments on cakes is absurd

Oh my sweet Lord, what delicious sweet potato pie!!! This place deserves all the exclamation points in the world. I stopped here during a self-guided tour(Detour) which brought me right into this amazing little spot. Maybe it was all the history I was learning, or the sun streaming through the windows, or eating it while sitting on a haystack at a nearby park, but I definitely would come back to try some of the other desserts.

I love going to this bakery for their banana pudding. However, this business will never grow or accelerate with such a very poor CUSTOMERSERVICE base. The communication is poor, they act like they don’t won’t to accommodate people, and they run out of banana pudding an hour after they make it, without the effort of making more. If your business is open from 8:00am-7:00pm, Monday-Friday, how do you run out of one of your most popular pies, without trying to make more? Last month, I came in to purchase one of the banana puddings, during business hours, and I politely ask the associate, «are there any banana puddings available?» Her response was, «someone» just went to go buy the ingredients.” Clearly, this business is not looking to advanced financially either. Weak customer service, upset customers, poor business structure, I wouldn’t be surprised if this place is «bought out» and turned into a café shop or a «gluten free» cupcake shop. GETITTOGETHER!

Not everyone can make a sweet potato pie. My mom and 3 aunts(from New Orleans) would put me out the house if I brought these home. The amount of nutmeg in the pie was so overpowering! One bite was enough. Having never had sweet potato pie, my fiancé said it tasted like pumpkin pie. gasp! I was so excited about the sock-it-to-me cake that not a moment after dinner was finished, I sliced a piece and warmed it in the oven. It was okay. A little dense for my taste and not very moist. The icing had too much powdered sugar and it did not cover the entire slice of cake. The layer of pecans could be enhanced also. I thought it was odd that the shelves were practically empty. The kitchen is visible from the counter and there were people in the back baking. Maybe Saturday is the ‘bake day’ to replenish the shelves? The one clerk ringing everyone up was clearly overwhelmed and not in the best spirits. She did not crack a hint of a smile. The history behind this bakery is certainly worth recognizing. This is one of the locations where the Black Panther party would hold meetings and gather the community to focus on ways to improve the African American way of life. The fact that this business is still around and is still family owned is a testament to their significance in the Oakland community. You will find news articles about the Black Panther Party on the walls. Well done on your longevity. But man, you guys need to tweak those recipes… easy on the nutmeg to start.

We have not been here in about a year, so I was craving there German chocolate cake so my husband went there today and got me a slice. Boy was I disappointed it was dry as hell I couldn’t even eat it! And the brownie was dry and crumbly and the cobbler was running with like 2 pieces of peaches totally gross and way dry!

Their customer service is AWFUL!!! The worst ever!!! I won’t bore you w/the low down BUT let’s just say the customer service lacks tact, friendliness, and most importantly the ability to accommodate/I will never use or refer this bakery to anyone. If you must use this bakery couple things to remember/order in person/insure whoever is paying at time of order(because that’s when payment is due) is the same person able to pick up order. I will never use«it’s all good» it’s all bad!!!

Brought my mother here yesterday for some sweet potato pie after our Black History month outing in San Francisco. She ended up picking up a slice of coconut cake and two small sweet potato pies. Once we got back to my house we tried the pie, and it was not all good. It was, in fact, all bad. It was too moist and lacking in flavor. We were quite disappointed. And, although she gobbled up that slice of cake(and even left crumbs in my car), when I spoke to her today she said it really wasn’t that good either. Nope, won’t be back.

IT’s NOTALLGOOD… No, no, no, that was not a sweet potato pie that we bought for $ 15 ! For a Superbowl party, we bought what was supposed to be Sweet Potato Pie. It looked like a typical sweet potato pie(cinnamon, nutmeg, mace) but after cutting it and tasting it, we weren’t sure what the heck it was! It sort of tasted like a sweet potato pie but the consistency was so custardy, like a flan. The crust was just OK, but better than the filling. If they are trying to cut corners to save money, this will certainly backfire when word gets out. Too much filler and not enough sweet potatoes. I’ve «been around the block» a few times and I’ve never had a pie with this texture. After a few bites, no one finished their slice.
