Out of business. When I showed up during lunch time on March 282013, I could see through the glass doors that all the furniture is gone. Too bad, I was in the mood for Indian food. Unilocal also lists this address as «Saffron Indian Cuisine»

1st Visit: Buffet had limited selection, and the food was edible but nothing special. The vat of rice was old and hard and some buffet items had obviously been sitting for a while. Service was friendly, however, and the price was reasonable all things considered. Probably won’t be back considering that there are so many better Indian restaurants in the surrounding towns.

Stopped in on a whim to get a takeout order one Saturday afternoon. I ordered samosas, mutter paneer, and aloo gobi. Samosas had decent flavor, but a not so appetizing brownish paste as a filling… hadn’t seen that before. The mutter paneer was flavorful, with a decent gravy-like sauce and cheese that tasted pretty fresh. As for the aloo gobi, it had a nice roasted flavor, but otherwise was bland and somewhat oily. In regards to the restaurant itself, the place was clean, but the very random décor made me glad that I was taking it to go. Unfortunately the appearance matches it’s random location in-between two sections of an Econo Lodge. While waiting for my food, I made small talk with one of the staff. He mentioned that their primary business was doing banquets for quincineras, baptismos, etc., and those customers usually bring their own food! That little detail should have made me make the move to the door, but I figured that since the folks were so nice, prices being reasonable, and the place being fairly clean, it was worth the chance. Bottom line: 7 out of 10 on overall food quality, taste, and price. Take the food to go, but then again if you happen to be staying at the Econo Lodge, it could be just bearable enough to provide a little respite from your accommodations :)

Really nice people and great food. They remember you and they are even willing to sit down to have a nice chat. This is because it just opened so there is hardly any business. Paneer Tika Masala is what you need to order! It is great that they opened this in such an isolated location but I don’t know if they will have enough business to keep going. That’s why you should go support, you won’t be disappointed!

Their entire lunch buffet was chilly, congealed, and disgusting. Overpriced($ 22 total for two people). And I got really sick afterward. It was the gift that kept on giving. They lost their liquor license for several weeks, just recently.

It’s a buffet… and it’s close to my work… and the prices are reasonable. The food is just OK, some items felt too oily one item tasted a little bit burnt. But still, for some buffet in East Oakland, you can do worse.

I recently ordered dinner here on a business trip from L.A. I love me some indian food, So my heart jumped when I saw this place paces from my hotel. Le sigh: Word of the day is: Inconsistent. Their Naan was over cooked in the center to a hard, cracker like proportion, not bad, but NOT Naan. Stay away from the veggie pakoras, these are a grainy, dough, lukewarm mess. Ecch. Crumbly and disgusting. The lamb biryani was fine, largish portion, with some whole spices that made for inconsistent, but good flavor. I took my food to-go, and was not given silverware, napkins, dipping sauces, nor the raita that was supposed to come with my food. Take your chances if there’s nothing else around, but I can’t say it’s a go-to destination. Total for some inedible vileness and rice & lamb bits — $ 17 Their interior is beautifully decorated.

If I could, I’d give this 2 ½, but I’m sure there’s some good reason they don’t let you give half stars… whatever it is, it’s cramping my style. I’d like to give it another star, because I may go here again… but only because of the price. The food is okay, but seems hit and miss. The veggie korma we had was actually pretty good, while the palak paneer was really bland(having to add salt to Indian food is, to me, a bad sign). The Naan is really basic(does the job, but not particularly great). The chai was good enough. A basically underwhelming experience, including the waiter/host who was present, but mostly absent. What’s great here: the gulab jamun was GREAT. Light, delicate, and delicious.

Last week I had dinner delivered from House of Curries. I ordered lamb curry, spicy prawns, palak paneer and steamed white rice. The food was heavily spiced and not in a good way. Though the sauces were intense, it was as if the meat and tofu were not infused with flavor. The order was $ 40 with small portions and I was surprised at the price/value ratio. Within a few hours I started vomiting. I was very sick for 36 hours and finally went to the ER. I can’t say for sure that it was the food but I was tested for everything from brain tumors to liver failure and nothing else was causal. So I will NEVER order from here or go to this restaurant again and suggest you refrain. The only«good» thing about this service was that it arrived fairly quickly. I decided I don’t need food poisoning delivered«fast” — do you?

Went here recently when visting No. Cal on a business trip. The guy at the front desk of my hotel recommended it. Not sure why. It was nothing to get excited about. Granted, there’s not much in the area but I have had waaay better Indian food. Not bad but not worth a trip back. Tea: good, tasted like anise Dal: good, curry/cumin flavor Naan: okay, kind of bland Muttar paneer: fine, not great Rice: good, lightly spiced Overall: decent not great

The only thing that is close to the Airport Hilton. It was either the Sports bar at the hotel or this. I don’t judge restaurants by their décor unlike the other Unilocalers. I’m there to order food! I was tired, famished and needed something quick, so I walked across the street from the hotel. I ordered the Vegetarian Biryani. I thought it was alright. It was midly spicy and very inexpensive. $ 6.99 and it was huge! Well worth the walk. The staff was very nice and the service was quick. They didn’t mess up my order, so no complaints.

My first Indian buffet in a long time! Not sure if this was the best place to experience it again, but I was never a fan of Indian food to begin with… — Plain Lassi — Sweet & Sour: Not iced, warm, and I was totally expecting a melted version of tart fro-yo. The exact opposite of what my co-worker hyped it to be from her experience elsewhere. Please do not let me near another glass without it being overly spewing with ice cubes. — Naan: loved it only when it came out fresh/warm. — Daal: This one was my favorite dish of all! For the price of the buffet, I really should have just ordered this along with naan for my lunch. I really don’t remember much of the other menu items that I tried. The mixed vegetables, chicken tandoori, and chicken tikka masala were alright. The soup consisted of vegetables/tofu, which reminded me of chinese or thai soup, it was good and flavorful. I was so disappointed that Saag Daal(Spinach Cooked with Lentil) was not available at the buffet during my visit, maybe I’ll come again to try it. MAYBE! Unlike the food, the décor could use some spicing up. It literally felt like I was at a diner/cafeteria with paper cut outs as decoration. P. S. Additional parking is available at the parking lot next to the restaurant. Weird b/c this restaurant is connected to an abandoned looking motel.

What happened? We visit about once a month and have given good reviews but this time, the dishes were hardly warm, no goat curry anymore, the lamb curry didnt taste like lamb(or beef or chicken), the other meats were tough and the fruit stale Strange but was told it has just changed owners. I don’t think well be going back.
