A coworker and I were looking forward to trying this place after reading positive reviews on Unilocal. But… they are shut down. Bummer. We ended up at Seoul House which has been around a long time and food was good. Lunch plates and Tofu soups range from $ 7-$ 10.

As of 1÷31÷09 it was boarded up. Not sure if they’ll reopen but my friend and I think it was from the riots. Their number works but no one is answering. Hmm, anyone know the story?

this place is immacualte and the tv is tuned to korean news. they don’t seem to be busy evenings. tried the bi bim bam(beef & assorted veggies w/fried egg(9.95) they have a cheaper version at lunch(i.e. kal bi 9.95, bul go ki 9.95, bi bim bab 7.50) was ok, not spectacular banchan:(seasoned spinach, radish leaf, radish cuts, bean threads, kim chee, sliced radish, ?,)nothing outstanding, some seem to be been referigated for a while. when the server came to collect the monies, i pushed the«voucher» forward with two hands(a sign of respect in asian culture). he gave me a slight bow of the head and i reciprocated. i then left. as i left. the round eye behind me looked at me as to say«what’s up with that?» p. s. gigul gigul has been sold and the subsequent owners closed.

Service was pretty slow the day we came but the food was pretty good and I’d certainly be back if I was craving a Korean lunch. There was only a few tables but it took about 15 mins before the lady took our order. She did seem to be running around though so I guess she didn’t do it on purpose. But lunch means most people are in a rush to eat and leave. But let’s get to the food. The portions were pretty big and the food was tasty so can’t complain about that part of it. The Bi Bim Bap especially looked really big! A couple of the people in my party ordered that and they both couldn’t finish it. In fact, it looks like they even barely touched it. I’d probably try that next time so that I can get a doggy bag and eat the rest for dinner…

I’m always looking for something that is quick, good, and convenient. If it’s cheap too, it’s a bonus. I had the Bi Bim Bap, to go. When I got to the restaurant around 5PM, there were no patrons. I ordered, sat down, briefly looked at the television playing some kind of Korean comedy, then started to read some emails on my phone. Not long into my reading, I got three packages in a togo back put on my table. Package 1: Condiments Package 2: Egg, meat, and veggies Package 3: Rice When I got home, I was disappointed that they gave me so little rice. It was just enough for one small bowl that you’d see in a Japanese restaurant. Then I started to eat and eventually realized that I was going to have to struggle a little bit to finish it off. It was tasty. It fits my quick, good and convenient criteria. $ 10.85 isn’t that bad either considering the variety of veggies and condiments you get with the meal.

Update: Tried the Yuk Kae Jang and damn is it spicy here! Must try if you like Yuk Kae Jang. I had the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap today. The portion was fairly large, with a good portion of different veggies and I liked that mushrooms were included. The egg yolk had cooked through though, I prefer a runnier yolk. Also, one of the ingredients was rather peppery and that combined with the pickled radish wasn’t a good combination. I’m not sure if I just wasn’t that hungry or haven’t had this dish in a while, but I felt like I’ve had better versions. All the panchan I tried were pretty good though, including napa kimchi, radish kimchi, and anchovies.

First thing’s first. I have to get this off my chest. A colleague and myself checked out Gigul and for about 10 minutes, we were perplexed as to what the actual name of this place is. Prior to finding this Unilocal,we were most certain that the name of this restaurant is 217⁄2217⁄2. Could it be some magical mathematical formula that would solve the ozone layer problem or restore the global environment to an acceptable level? Was is multpilcation or addition? 7⁄2 = 3 ½ so could the restaurant really be 49??? or is it multiplication??? 21*3.5*21*3.5= 1,569.225??? Restaurant 1,569.225. Now that’s a very well embedded and hidden meaning should that be the case. Perhaps it was just Korean caricatures that phonetically pronounces into: «gigul»? Makes me giggle to say the least. Being that today IS a SPARE the AIR day, things like that naturally become a part of the discussion. The interior is nice and has a clean dim and comfortable korean authentic minimalist look about it. It’s great for conversation and the menu fairly easy to follow, but be careful, do not just order any number because, for example, if you order the #19, it could be Son Kee Soup(Tofu Soup) or Boiled Sablefish!!! I don’t know what a sablefish is(Wiki indicates that it’s a is one of two members of the fish family Anoplopomatidae and the only species in the Anoplopoma genus – looks a bit like a catfish without the whiskers) but had that arrived on my table, I would have decried an error and they’d be justified in charging me twice the price since I asked only for a #19. But the staff is very friendly here and I don’t think they’d be the types to rip off their customer like that. The service is pretty much perfect, but I think I’ll bump this down to 3 stars because the soon kee had very little meat in it and it was a combination soon kee. The kim chee wasn’t bad but not truly memorable. Although I’m given this a modest rating, I’d come here again given that I have a summer flu/cold and the spicy Soon Kee definitely opened up my sinuses which is always a good feeling. This is definitely a great place to go to in the wintertime when it is cold. The other reason I’m docking this is because it’s about $ 10/person for lunch. For dinner, that’s acceptable, not lunch. I guess 217⁄2 = Gigul. The awning says: 217⁄2217⁄2 and it’s called Gigul Gigul. I think the puzzle’s been solved.
