Okay, I don’t eat chicken, so I can only discuss the veggie/rice combo. The seasoning is good(not spicy), the vegetables are cooked just right, it’s only $ 5, *and* the cart is right outside my apartment. It’s the night before Halloween, and the woman who runs the cart is in costume. Awesome!

I tried Evil Jerk Cart at the October Underground Market in Oakland. I had some jerk chicken over rice and peas and it was super spicy but very tasty. The spices sorta creep up on you and half way through, my mouth was on fire. Evil, indeed. Let’s just say there was an excorcism in my bathroom the next morning. I don’t regret it at all.

Got the chicken skewers(not really skewers because the meat was cooked so long that it fell off the skewers apparently). Chicken was tender and flavorful. I know jerk chicken is supposed to be spicy, and the spiciness of this chicken was no joke. I consider myself a fairly capable of handling spicy but damn, my mouth was on fire. Maybe because I didn’t order the rice or anything else to accompany the chicken to help cut through some of the heat, but wow. After eating some bread and drinking a glass of water, i was back to normal though…

i love the name of this street food vendor. it grabs my attention and is true to it’s name. the jerk chicken skewer was horrendously spicy in the best way possible. it’s as if hell hath found it’s way to my mouth and spewed fire over my tongue and gums. the sauce that the she-devil(only in reference to the name of her cart, i’m sure she’s a nice woman) had over the rice and veggies was creamy enough to subside the burn just enough not to allow for permanent damage in your mouth. and it was all tasty too!

Evil(not really, she was super friendly) Jerk(oh yeah, very spicy) Cart(straight up) Could also be called Friendly Spicy Cart, but that wouldn’t be nearly as cool.

I just had my first experience of evil jerk cart. I am floored. Not only were the flavors amazing and unique, but the chef is a total babe. The jerk chicken had the right amount of kick, and the salted fish dish was tasty and totally different than anything I have ever tried. I will seek out this cart whenever possible.

Evil Jerk Cart(not an insult, that’s just the cart’s name) made its debut this Friday and Saturday, selling grilled Jamaican jerk chicken and pork skewers: choice of 2 skewers served over«Jamaican coconut rice and peas» plus a veggie stew poured over it($ 8). I got one of each — the chicken was very tender, and the pork was lean. Good size portions, so it can be shared among 2 people. It’s a very satisfying and hearty meal, everything tasted really good. In regards to the«evil jerk» or level of spiciness of the dish — I’d call it «gringo spicy», meaning not spicy at all. To be fair, there were a lot of kids at this Halloween event(organized by Little Skillet), so perhaps the seasoning was adjusted for them. Therefore no points deducted, affordable good food deserves 5 stars from me. Thumbs up! Get location updates via Twitter or Facebook.
