As a Local resident, My Wife and I are always looking for something fun to do. Against others advice, we decided to check out this joint so we could do some dancing. We showed up early only to be greeted by a security woman who looked me up and down and told me she wasnt letting me in because of my black, V-Neck shirt was plain. Now mind you, this is no tee shirt, its a nice dress shirt. I was also wearing Dockers and dress shoes. Had I been wearing a ball cap or drug monikered tee shirt, I could understand. I’ve never been so offended that a trashy lil place like this would deny us. lastly, i went on their websites gallery of pics to see almost every male wearing a tee shirt with some writing on it. I will NEVER return regardless of the event. I will also make sure anyone who asks knows how lame you guys are.

I wish I could give this bar a –5 stars. They didn’t let me into the bar because my shirt didn’t not have«letters on it» no «plain shirts allowed». I have never heard this ridiculous gesture. I was also told to take off my hat because I wore it on the line. If I didn’t wear it on the line I could’ve taken it inside. This bar is trash and I hope no one goes there

I went here on a Friday night. I was unaware that there would be celebrity performances. I was planning on paying w debit card but discovered that it was cash only(interesting). I did not have cash so the security pointed to the atm machine to get cash, but wanted to hold my ID. I thought it was fine– BIG mistake. The atm was out of cash. I came back to get my ID and leave but the security said he didn’t have my ID and had given it back to me. After going back and forth a few minutes the celebrity got on stage and things got chaotic. I figured I’d come back after the performance once things settled at the door. When I came back the 2 security guards were GONE! No one could give me an explanation as to why they took my ID. The owner gave a lousy explanation saying that they«were not employees of the club» –Horrible experience. I’ll never go back. The security are CROOKS !

I’m a fan of goat curry, and one of my friends told me that New Karibbean City has the best goat curry in the Bay and suggested that we go there for lunch one day. I took him up on his offer and we visited NKC on a rainy Friday at noon a few weeks ago. Dining at NKC is a truly unique experience. It is so interesting to eat lunch at a night club with a dance floor, a large bar, and spacious booths with tables that are impractically low and only meant as a resting place for drinks. We were the first customers of the day, so we decided to sit at the bar. We both ordered the goat curry lunch which costs ~$ 10 and comes with rice and beans, plantains, and a festival(which can basically be described as a bite size piece of sweet fried dough). While we waited for the food, I was surprised to see the club start to fill up. From the outside, NKC doesn’t even appear to be open at lunch time. My expectations started to rise as I thought this food must be great to attract so many customers without any obvious outward appearance a lunch place. When the food arrived, it lived up to the hype. The goat was incredibly tender and juicy. It was expertly seasoned, and with a little pepper sauce it was even better. This is definitely the best goat curry that I have had in a long time. The sides were on point too. The plantains had great caramelization and the rice tasted good with the curry sauce. Lastly, the festival was the perfect way to cap off the meal. Growing up, my grandma would make these for special occasions(she called them mithaee which is the Hindi word for sweet), and it was one of my favorite desserts. It was the perfect way to cap of an outstanding lunch. They were so good that I actually ordered a side of festivals to go. If you are a fan of goat, want to try great Caribbean food, or just want to eat lunch at a nightclub, I highly recommend New Karibbean City.

Don’t go here unless you enjoy incredibly terrible customer service. Friday night I went and had to leave my ID at the payment desk(standard protocol so I could get cash from the ATM inside to pay cover). I go back to pay and I don’t get my ID(drivers license) back. I didn’t really notice this. Forgot I even gave the guy my ID until after I was already home. Figured it’s all good right? I can go ask tomorrow(Saturday) to get my shit back. APPARENTLYNOT. I hear that it’s not at the club but that’s(most likely) because the promotion group behind the event may have kept my ID. I get the manager’s contact info which is great and he tells me he will contact the promoter tomorrow(that is Sunday). It’s Monday and I have yet to hear whether my driver’s license is in their possession or not. It does not take TWO days to get a simple yes or no on whether you have an important document. I am very fucking pissed and I will NOT come back. Pathetic service.

This place is horrible & so is management(Richard)! First issue walking in almost fell through the stairs. There’s holes in the wall patched up, like someone head went through it. The bathroom is filthy. There is a event here on March 18 with plies & keyshia cole, that I was trying to purchase bottle service for two tables for my birthday. When I spoke to Richard I was told he would give me the best seating because I’m purchasing so early. I contacted and contacted him about a pay pal link he was suppose to email me which I never recieved. So I decided to go down there, he wasn’t there and told me to come back the next day. I went back the following week and scheduled a time. He then tells me all the good tables are booked and sold, that I would be in the back by the bar. He could only give me one there and the other table in the back. The tables by the stage are going for 600. Horrible business person. If the tables were going for 600 he would of said that when I first talked to him. This place is not worth 600 with a celebrity let alone 400. This place is suppose to be remodeled but the white leather seating area is gross and dirty, he should of spent some off that remodeling money on the stairs where someone can fall through and sue his ass. There were no toilet seat covers or tissue in the women’s rest room. I refused to pay and have my party there. Will never step a foot in that place again. I don’t understand why celebrities would even show to a event there.

Watch out. It’s cheaper cover if you’re in by 11. But their tighter-than-airport-security entrance will take awhile to get through. So if you arrive before 11 and pay post-security after 11 you’re screwed. It’s also a bad idea to come here anywhere near 11 since it’s empty. Anyway, good luck if you come here, seems like a good place to meet other smokers.

I have been coming here for years now… I have seen many reggae concerts here, had great nights with my girls over the years, and most recently had the best time ever with my boyfriend. AND its the ONLY place in town to find authentic and good Caribbean food in Oakland. The last time I went I was able to experience the new look of the place. I like how it looks so upscale and classy. I see many more NKC summer nights in our 2015!

I love this place is huge. They stay open till 4am on the weekends. A bit over priced even after midnight @ $ 20.00 … I gave it a 4 star because of the $ 20 after midnight and there is only a hand full of chairs no seats available to rest and oh people smoke trees in the bathroom so if U don’t mind happy smoke this is an awesome place to enjoy reggae hip hop and rap … I love the music great vibes.

I went here for a concert that was advertised as starting at 10pm. This is fine because the artist usually comes on by 11:30 latest at most of the concerts I go to. So I got there at 10pm, and it was almost empty inside(they’re open till 4am). After an hour I asked one of the owners what time the show was starting. He said midnight. Well, that eventually became 2am before the artist finally came on… JUSTPLEASEBETRUTHFULINYOURADVERTISEDTIMES, for the poor souls like me who came all the way there only for the concert.

This place is killer! Just renovated and it’s looking solid. Super close to 12th Street BART in Oakland and the neighborhood is full of awesome food spots, cool little boutiques and art galleries. DEFINITELY heading back regularly! Major event with GETTER coming August 20th!

Never again! Worst service ever!!! The food may or may not be ready and thank god I want dying of thirst. They have some kind of dance practice and you won’t even know who works there. The chef took my order no one behind the bar and then served people ahead of me and didn’t tell me to go to the kitchen window. A joke of a food spot!!! Off to sweet fingers rather travel further and go to an actual restaurant! Can’t speak for the event side of things but that looks bad from these reviews too.

I wish I can rate this place(negative) — zero… I came here last night for the second time around(first time was a bad experience similar to this time) only because I my girl told me that Trey Songz, Chris Brown and Tyga will be performing here. I checked out some flyers on IG to check if it’s legit coz I know these artist were performing in San Jose. Then I seen that it was actually an after party event after their concert. I said okay we can. Check it out. The flyer said $ 15 before 10pm. So my girl and I came early like 9:30pm because I know that there will be a line. We got our names on the guest list which they don’t even honor when we got there. The bouncer started letting people in at 1005pm. WTF! After we passed through the security check point it was already 1030 since they let people in late! When we got upstairs the girls said that the door cover is $ 30 ohh hell naw! I was hella pissed! I told them that they didn’t start letting people in at 1005 and were on the guest list. The broad told me they don’t do guest list! WTF again! False advertisement at its finest! So I paid and went to the bathroom right away since it was early the floor was nearly empty, but the bathroom is already filthy as hell. It stinks girls smokes weed in there and there is no paper towel and tissues since most of them are on the ground! So nasty and ghetto! As soon as people starts coming in there’s more and more people smoking weed and cigarettes inside, I was disgusted with their whole set up coz bouncer didn’t stop people from smoking inside. It ain’t like the place has good ventilation system, NO they don’t! It’s musty, humid and hot and it stinks! The DJ had a set playlist for the night which repeated like 4 times through out the entire time I was there. That’s really sad! So finally they decided to bring out Tyga at 2am, he sang for almost 15mins and right after his performance people started leaving so we left too. BTW Drinks is $ 8 in a small ass cup with hella ice. Over all experience is bad and I will NEVER again go to this place! Bay Area clubs are greedy and filthy! Yall need to step up your game! Do not come here if you are looking to have an axing time. Won’t recommend to people.

I feel like the Goldilocks of the club scene. If a place is super packed and loud, it’s probably going to grate on my nerves. NKC was quite the opposite on the Saturday I attended. I found myself being annoyed that I had to pay $ 10 to get in and discover how dead it actually was. This place was like a wake. It was strange because it wasn’t exactly empty, it was just as if everyone there was like a zombie or something. Sort of ambling about, avoiding the expansive dance floor. I was afraid to make sudden movements, as surely I would have been outed as an outsider… And the way I get down involves a lot of sudden movements. Drinks were small but pretty strong; $ 7 a piece. Pretty tasty. And there was a dated sort of laser light show thing that probably wouldn’t even entertain cats. Also I think there should be surge pricing for nightclubs. And in this case, the opposite of surge pricing… Is there surge pricing for nightclubs? There probably is and I’m just so out of touch I’m not aware of it. And that’s how I ended up here.

Honestly if I could rate this place a zero I would. Not a long line pretty cool vibe… We called and they told us dress code was no white tees and no tennis shoes. So my man wore nice shoes and a crewneck s weatshirt. Other people in line were wearing Jordan’s and t shirts with baseball hats more casual than the dress code. We got up to security and they told my man he had to be in a collared shirt and that the man at the other side of the line would sell him one for 20 $. So here’s why me and my boyfriend are white. We were the only white people in the entire line… why were we discriminated against? All we wanted to do was to see August alsina. Definitely wont be back. This place serves food? I…(With a ball of shame in my throat) went here with my friends for my birthday because our usual spot was too packed and welp! We left the house at midnight and ended up having a hard time finding somewhere to drink and dance. Man. Never again. This is the most ratchet, most stanky, most ghetto, most overpriced slum of a club I’ve ever been too. In the past, I came here to watch some reggae artist perform and it was coo! But on a club night it’s gross. Here is how it went down. It was a Friday night. We had to go through metal detectors(like a scene straight out of a ghetto, stereotypical spoof movie about the hood). Cover was hella 20 freakin dollars! As soon as I walked in I got a fat whiff of BUDUSSY(butt, d*^# and 9!@sy) the drinks were overpriced. The DJ’s transitions sucked and I ain’t no punk, but I felt unsafe the whole time. And no eye candy up in there. For men or woman… Juss sayin. I’m never going back there again, unless it’s a performance by a dope reggae artist. And I don’t see that happening anytime soon. However, I did enjoy watching the guy outside telling the security guard that he just wanted to transfer money from his phone… Sound familiar? LMAO!!! #kevinhart #thewaymyaccountsaresetup

As a Caribbean Island gyal, I love to enjoy good music and dancing at a good fête wherever I go. Never the same as home, but I’ll take what I can get. New Karibbean City isn’t the best, but it’ll do. Been the NKC twice now this year: Memorial/SF Carnival Weekend for the Rupee fête and again for the Sean Paul show last weekend. I won’t comment much on the performances(although I will say I was mighty disappointed with Sean Paul’s :-(). I digress… As a venue, this place is pretty cool. LARGE space, good dance floor, enough seating area, long bar(didn’t buy any drinks so can’t comment there). The music I suppose changes for the crowd/event. Rupee had LOTS of SOCA and calypso. And GOOD soca too! This soca junkie was in heaven. Nice and new 2011 songs too not old 2008 shit! Sean Paul had mostly reggae and dancehall. Both times I had a good time. Pros: LOTS of free street parking. Good music. Diverse, cool crowd. Stays open past 2am. Cons: Small, dirty bathroom(pee before you go or hold it!). Hot as fuq — sauna hot. Don’t come if you think you’re too cute to sweat. Long lines if you don’t buy your tix in advance on .
