Great lattes, great service. Baked goods, bagels, juices, too. Plenty of seating and free WIFI.

A cozy venue that overlooks both the interior of the Rotunda building as well as the plaza outside that leads to City Hall. While the coffee is fairly average, service is friendly, and there’s enough space here, inside or out, so that you can have a nice, private conversation. Not a bad choice, precisely because it is tucked slightly off the beaten path and therefore doesn’t see large crowds like other places.

Great little local coffee shop. It is hidden away in the rotunda building. Very friendly staff and good coffee for a good price. They accept cards. Comfy little chairs inside. This is a good place to people watch those walking into Frank Ogawa Plaza.

First time here and will be back. The soup was great and the workers were very nice. It’s a nice place to just sit with a coffee and relax while on the Internet

Nice feel. I’m a fan of nooks and this is nestled right in there. The atmosphere and service makes up for the extra 25¢ you’ll pay for a tall coffee and for me that’s more than a fair trade. Its just before 7am and I reeeeeaally didn’t want to go to Starbucks. So here I am sitting at a table in a quiet café starting my day. No line and plenty of seating. I’ll be back :)

sandwiches are pretty good, but one of the employees tends to make them very very skimpy. it is very inconsistent. so depending on who makes it, you could order half a sandwich and be satisfied or order a full sandwich and starve.

Not a bad little spot for coffee. I noticed Caffe Teatro while on my way to an appointment nearby, and figured I would check them out being I was a tad hungry and in need of some coffee. The name is misleading in a sense, only considering that you might perhaps assume the interior to be just a tad more… well, theatrical? All in all, the interior aesthetics is nothing appealing, but suitable and cozy. They do have an outside seating area located within the Rotunda building, that is quite beautiful to feast your eye’s on, and perhaps I guess you can say, is a little more theatrical in a sense. They offer your standard selections of coffee/tea drinks to choose from. They also offer a small array of breakfast items such as pastries, breakfast bagels, and some additional items. I ordered a small cup of coffee and an order of two eggs scrambled. The coffee was decent, I believe they brew Illy’s. The eggs also were deliciously presented, along with an array of sliced tomatoes resting beside it. The eggs also turned out to be surprisingly tasteful and filling. Service was warm and cheerful, and the prices were fair. Can’t say I would be eager to come here again, considering there are a handful of different options, however, it’s certainly worth giving a shot.

It is a good café for being in this plaza full of medical offices. The soy chai is very satisfying and the baristas are very cheery, which is probably just what you need if you are here.

I love this place now that it’s been taken over by new owners. The service is great and I’m always greeted with a smile. Try the warm chicken sandwich. The Chai tea is WONDERFUL too. I only wish there were more locally owned businesses like this!

I absolutely love this place. The staff are friendly and kind, the chai is among the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve recently discovered their lunch sandwiches and salads are also great! Inside, they have a bunch of interesting objects that please my inner history nerd. Come here for a smile and great chai!

I stopped in here for a quick bite around 1pm and the place was nearly silent. Other than the somewhat, but not annoyingly, loud music playing, there were just a handful of people in there so not much noise at all. And it’s nice that they have tables in what I guess is an atrium? outside of the café proper. Inside the café, meh. Nothing noteworthy. Asiago Cheese Chowder was the soup of the day. Mmmm. It was delish! I was expecting a smooth creamy cheese soup. What I ladled into my mouth was so much more. I hesitate to use this word, but it was a chunky creamy bowl of . Chunky makes it sound heavy, but it wasn’t actually at all. It did have bits of bacon in it, which I’m not opposed to. In fact, I loved it. But my suggestion is that you write an ingredient like that underneath the name of the soup. A vegetarian may think they’re ordering a seemingly veg soup, but then gets an unpleasant surprise and returns the soup complaining. The soup gets thrown out and comped. Save both the herbivores and yourself the trouble. Just my 2 cents. I also ordered a pumpkin bar. Not quite as good as the soup, but also very tasty. SO why only 3 stars? Because as good as the soup was, the bread that came with it was most definitely not. I took one bite and put the rest down. And that’s where it stayed. It reminded me of a generic, white flour hamburger bun from the grocery store(you know the kind I mean) sliced to make it look better. It was so disgusting. I didn’t ask for the bread. The nice woman at the counter(and she was very nice) asked me if I’d like some to accompany my soup. And as soon as she said it, I thought that it was exactly what I wanted but hadn’t expressed it yet. It would have been perfect to soak the bread in that bowl of deliciousness. But that bread was so bad, nothing could help it. Please Teatro! Spend an extra dollar or two and buy some decent artisan bread. 4 stars for friendly staff and ambience(in the atrium) 4 stars for the soup 4 stars for the sweets 1 star for the bread — no, actually negative 1 star for the bread

A beautiful setting to enjoy a cup of coffee(if you’ve got time to spare). I usually hop in here out of convenience for lunch or a latte. Coffee — average so maybe about 3 stars worth Food — hit or miss — chicken salad sandwich and some soups(Italian Wedding, Cream of Asparagus) are great, others are meh. Staff — super nice and they often-times play great music Ambiance — the café itself is a bit outdated but they tend to show local art work and there are several tables within the Rotunda with great views of the glass dome. I’d definitely recommend as a quick but standard lunch spot or for a basic latte or coffee. It’d be great if they revamped their menu a bit.

A cute hidden café in the Rotunda building. The ice white mocha was satisfying, not too sweet! Their mocha crunch bars are unique and have many different layers — I’m not sure if they make it themselves but it was pretty good — I liked that it was chilled. Plenty of seating inside and outside for balcony view.

You would think with a name like Caffe Teatro that you would expect the staff singing Puccini arias in full costume, but no, there isn’t much you could consider theatrical at this compact coffee stop. It must be its placement in the dramatic Rotunda building that must have inspired its moniker. But you don’t see stagings of «Tosca» here, just working drones walking to and fro on the open floors like any other office building. I have to admit that the only reason I’ve come here several times is that it’s on the way to my dentist’s office. $ 2.35 will get you a steaming-hot, medium au lait. I take BART from the city and hate the swill they serve in the office’s reception area. I came upon Caffe Teatro accidentally and must be subconsciously drawn to the high ceilings of the rotunda since there’s nothing distinctive about their coffee. I wouldn’t know about their baked goods. Don’t you remember… I’m on my way to the dentist, for Pete’s sake. They are quick here and not particularly chatty unless you’re a regular of which there appears to be a constant stream. I’m always in a hurry anyway. The soft leather love-seat is inviting unless a laptopper beats you to it. Maybe it’s time I sing a cantata for my caffeine. COFFEE — 3 stars… run-of-the-mill put through the mill AMBIANCE — 3.5 stars… I can hear an echo in here SERVICE — 3 stars… they seem to favor their regulars TOTAL — 3 stars… hey, at least I have decent caffeine before facing the dental drill

Wow, after loking at all of these reviews, I should have had a great latte but it was watery and I know I didn’t ask for non-fat. The foam wasn’t creamy, it’s like true sea-foam — yuk! I give one star to the fig oatmeal bar adn another to the location area. It is a nice place to enjoy a drink when you have time to sit inside the rotunda. For $ 5.75, I got a short latte and fig bar.

Don’t be fooled by the offputting outside entrance! The inside is cave of sweet treats and yummy bites. It’s actually a part of the rotunda building, so the other indoor entrance opens into a beautiful and brightly lit balcony while the café itself is dimly lit and cavernous. We ventured in for soup, but there was only one bowl left. In the end, we got salads and sandwiches too. The pastrami was nicely grilled and salty. I regret not getting it on the focaccia, but the french roll was good nonetheless. I also regret that I did not get a lemon bar, as my search still continues to find the best lemon bar in the area. ceasar, greek, green, spinach salads for 5 $ Also note that they do have a restroom which is located to the right of the inside entrance, but you have to ask for the code. suggestion: tub for people to bus their own tray
