They will never have to worry about me patronizing their business again. The food was ok but I did not like the way That the just stood there and watched you like you were going to take off and not pay. Then when they brought our food. The syrup that they gave to mini me was gooy like the top of your opened syrup bottle, you could stretch the cup from the waffle all the way Across the table before it broke free so I sent it back with the lady and told her that I’m not letting my baby eat that. Then the guy comes and wants to know what is wrong with the syrup. I told him go look at it cause you have the plate. He goes to the back and comes back with the bottle of syrup he so called pumped it from and as I was telling him that how was I to know that it came from there the owner comes out with her new waffle and is trying to still tell me that there was nothing wrong with syrup. I told him I was not going to argue but he never had to worry about me coming back. To top it off, when I went to settle my check with my debit card the chick had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to exclude a tip. Really. Never again cause if it’s all that hassle over replacing a waffle cause your syrup wasn’t right then you don’t deserve my Business. Thought customer was always right.

Although I’ve probably been to the smaller Fong’s Café hundreds of times, I’ve only visited this larger one on a handful of occasions. The service at both is fine, but this one is lacking in the most important element; I’m just not feeling the love. The people working here rarely crack a smile. There’s no laughter or music from the kitchen and they seem to simply tolerate each other. It’s no wonder why the food is just passable.

Café La Fong’s food isn’t as good as the sister store.(other people seem to agree. hardly anyone here). the seating arrangement much spacious here eats: BOBO special: choose 4 items –french toast, 2 links, 2 eggs, home fries. edible, taste average, nothing exciting. home fries too soft, not crispy french toast forgotten. crumbs: –not as good a value as the other fongs –less people working here –closed by 3:30 daily., closed mondays.

The service there is alright, I like the little café. The inside of it looks nice its clean. The most important part the food well… I enjoy it, I go there every now and then i usually buy the belgian waffles they are a must! They are decorated with sugar powder and a butter ball it makes it look pretty. The taste is delicious as well all warm and what not. The price is reasonable since its a meal that will fill you up and keep you satisfy i also recommend the ham steak. Overall the café seems clean, the food is tasty, service is okay wish the lady was a bit more friendly, and the price is alright. If your a waffle fan then try it out(:

I have driven by this place a million times, and finally decided to try it. Terrible decision. Our waiter didn’t know what ‘salsa’ was, and allowed a bum in the restaurant to abuse us for not lending him a cellphone. He wasn’t even a customer, and they didn’t ask him to leave! The place is actually kind of cute inside, even though the décor isn’t of a whole. BF got french toast, eggs, homefries and bacon. His food was okay, though he thought his homefries were a little cold. I ordered fried chicken with gravy, eggs, and homefries. The homefries were okay, but not very crispy. The gravy was bland and awful. The chicken was okay. I would never go here again.

Meh, nothing to write home about. Had Bobo’s special this morning; French Toast was good as well as sausage links. Service was just ok; mom’s plate was brought out first and I didn’t get mine until 5 minutes later. Waitress didn’t provide any condiments(ketchup, hot sauce, for me, no syrup), so I had to get them from another table. Won’t go out of my way to come back, even though I live less than 5 minutes away.

This place had good service, and you can get a really great breakfast… depending on what you order. The place was busy, but we were able to get seated right away at 11am on a Sunday morning, and that’s definitely a plus. The good: –Very fresh and delicious chicken and waffles –Red potato homefries that were perfect –perfectly cooked, runny poached eggs The not-so-good: –The hollandaise sauce had wine in it, which gave it a really bitter aftertaste. I had to scrape it off my eggs it was so strong. –The veggie Benedict was supposed to come with mushrooms, onions and spinach, but was actually served with mushrooms, carrots, and broccoli — NOTATALL what was on the menu. –The coffee was burnt-tasting I would go back with someone that was craving chicken and waffles, and would also be interested in trying the lunch items. The hollandaise was pretty bad though, the worst I’ve ever had.

Brown gravy smothered over crisp pork chops, a scoop of fluffy rice, and steamed veggies was yummy when you have an appetite for home style cooking. They do this better than the Hong Kong style cafes in Chinatown. Café LaFong’s is an American breakfast and lunch place with southern dishes like chicken and waffles.

Dont know why I didnt go to the breakfast spot around the corner by my house, but instead I drove down to the hood of «East Oakland» and tried this Chinese family owned café called Fongs. Dont let the hood scare you, I was only curious when a friend of mine bragged about this place on how these Chinese people got down with breakfast like how black folks do it. Because he’s black and knows his food, I thought I check it out. Located next to the famous«Eastmont Mall»(maybe some of you heard it on Too Shorts songs), the people in the hood know Fongs for its breakfast. I was craving for french toast, bacon and eggs at the time. Their fried chicken, pork chop and fish on the menu sounded pretty good. The place was sort of crammed up because of its small size, only a stretched counter, a couple of tables and chairs. They’re open in the morning until 2pm. Anytime later, chances are, the place might get robbed. Funny reading the other rave reviews it got. Of course its in the hood. I thought I was treated fairly, no complaint on the service. Maybe because they were happy to see an asian guy eating there… lol. I

I wanted to like this place, because it is the only breakfast/lunch diner I’ve found in the neighborhood. We’ve gone in on Saturday morning, and it has been busy, and the food lives up to the expectation of a standard breakfast place, but the service is pretty disinterested. It takes a while to get seated, even with tables open, and it’s a wait for everything else: water, giving the food order, getting the food, getting any water or coffee refills. At least if there was a look in the eye, or a sorry, or some kind of acknowledgment that they were aware of their lame service, but they didn’t seem to be. We like going out to breakfast on a Saturday morning, and want to support our new neighborhood’s businesses, so we went twice(in the hopes that the first day was an off one.) I don’t think we’ll be visiting again any time soon.

I was looking around East Oakland for a good southern food restaurant and came across Café La Fong’s. It was awesome to see a traditional Chinese family running a southern food restaurant, but unfortunately I had issues here. I understand working in the food industry is quite difficult and very challenging but there are somethings that I feel are just unacceptable. For starters, the service was horrendous. My party and I was not greeted at the door because the greeter was talking with someone on their cell phone. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant too. We had to seat ourselves even with their«please wait to be seated» sign present. Secondly the server gave our food to the gentleman across the room while on their cellphone. After the gentleman complained to be properly served without the cellular phone present, the server gave our food to us with cell phone still in hand, spilling some fries on my lap. And lastly the quality of the food, well, fried chicken and waffles with bacon on the side isn’t something that can go wrong but it did. The chicken was over cooked to the point of being tough rubber. The waffles were cold and stale. I ordered a strawberry milkshake and found it to be bland. Almost like a vanilla shake with a half teaspoon of «Strawberry Quik» mix. When the employees had their lunch, I took a look at what they were eating and it looked amazing. Boc-choi, asparagus smothered with oyster sauce, chow fun, fried rice, and twice cooked pork… wow I wish I had what they made that day.

Given its location, this place is a gem. A cute little standalone yellowish orange diner that even has its own parking space, La Fong’s serves up a bit of traditional Chinese fair alongside the burgers, sandwiches and breakfasts(served all day, of course). They have yummy milkshakes, quick service, and nice air conditioning on a hot day. The food is nothing to write home about, but if you’re craving a basic american meal, it’s a decent place to find it. I don’t eat fish, but someone needs to try the fried catfish and fries and add a review to let everyone know how it is! and once I go back on a weekend, I’ll let you know how the brunch specials are. I’m a bit afraid of hollandaise sauce at a joint like this, but I’ll take one for the team!
