My screen has also been held hostage! They have had my very small screen for a basement window for over two weeks. I got a call today(Sunday) saying my screen is all ready for pick up. I go there to finally pick it up. At 1:50pm I walk in and am told they are closed. Their store hours clearly say open until 6pm. They take my receipt anyway, make me wait outside in the heat for fifteen minuets before meeting me out front to say«I can’t find it, I’ll check in with the other guy Tuesday and let you know» I told the man«you just called me to say it was ready» he said«yeah we don’t have it, try back Tuesday» to say I am livid would be an understatement. DONOTGOHEREFORANYTHING. There is your warning people.

My screens are held hostage. There’s a sign out front that screens are repaired, so I brought in 4 screens a few days before thanksgiving. They charged me $ 87.99 and told me 5 – 10 days. Fine, I thought. Well, here we are a few days before Christmas and I have no screens. I’ve called 2 times and just went in. Nothing has helped. The employee just repeats that we will call me when they are in. They send the screens out and the gentleman behind the counter wasn’t willing to do anything to expedite the return of my screens. I asked for the owner of Ace to call me Monday to discuss, but the employee said that it would be more than two weeks from now, since the owner is going away on vacation. Well, if the owner is not willing to go out of his way to help a local customer, then I can’t understand how they are still in business. Similar to the other reviewers, it’s overpriced with extremely short hours, all this in a town with a great neighborly feel. Ace apparently didn’t get that message.

Ace Hardwares are locally owned, so you’d think their customer service would be excellent. These small stores rely on the loyalty of their local consumers in order to keep their doors open and compete with big boxes, so you’d expect respect and courtesy from management and staff. Au contraire, mon frere. The staff here is among the rudest I’ve ever had the unfortunate experience of encountering. There is one employee there that stands out as exceptionally unpleasant, an older, gruff«gentleman.» Exhibit A: I was once there to buy a garbage can, and the only other person in the store was a gentleman who needed some propane. It was raining outside, and the customer waited politely for me to ask for the lid to my garbage can. The older man abruptly turned from me, and snapped to the customer, «I TOLD you to wait outside in the back! Someone will be right there.» The customer said very calmly, «I did, but I was out there for 10 minutes and no one came. I was wondering if you could please call him again.» The older man sighed dramatically and said very nastily, «He’s out there waiting. You need to follow directions.» The customer responded, «With all due respect, no one is out there. And there is no reason to raise your voice at me. I’m trying to give your store business.» The employee said(very loudly), «I’m not raising my voice, and you’re interrupting a sale(me)! Just go to the back!» I was appalled. Exhibit B: During Hurricane Irene, my mother-in-law had purchased a propane camping lantern, under employee advisement that it was fine for indoor use … with her cats. My husband and I told her this was absolutely not okay, and went back before the hurricane hit to return it. The owner, a long-haired younger guy, said it would not be a problem to return it and appreciated that we brought it back before the storm in good faith. However, even though we had a receipt, he said he needed the credit card in order to refund us. Since we didn’t have her credit card on hand, he refused to let us return it, but said that we could come back after the storm hit(the next day) and return it and say that the owner okayed it. We attempted to do so the day after the storm, but were greeted by the sour employee from my other experience, as we were getting out of the car with: «You can’t return that. Put it back in the car.» Note, this was before we even reached the front door. He opened the store door to tell us not to bother, in short. We told him that the owner said we were allowed to return it, and that we’d come before the hurricane. He called outright us liars, said that it was not the store’s fault that we didn’t use it during the hurricane, and refused to call the store owner to confirm. We asked for the owner’s hours so that we could return the lantern, and he refused, saying that it was personal. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this store EVER. It’s convenient, but I’ll take the impersonal big box before the blatant disrespect and rudeness over this Ace. They absolutely do not deserve to remain in business.

Horrible hours. Overpriced. Lousy help. Not consumer friendly. Bad Hours. Small place. Did I mention bad hours? If you have a job, you better leave work early because for some reason they close when you get home from work. Yes, their hours suck. They don’t stay open until 8pm, or 7pm or 6pm like any other place on Earth. They seem to only want to serve business’s, not local home owners =( Who do they think they are, Home Depot? It’s a small place, so they obviously can’t compete with the big boys… so why don’t they stay open for us locals? You’re better off driving to the Long Island Ace Hardware on Vets Hwy in Bohemia for better service, variety, help and price.
