Decent food, but Pricey for what you get!!! First thing you will notice, is the exterior is… old. That’s the nice way to put it. But, I thought to myself, this may be one of those hole on the wall Gems we all dream of finding. Sadly, this was not the case. The interior is not much better decorated, but it seemed very clean. The bright spot of the visit was the food. I had a sashimi entrée and my wife had a steak/shrimp combo. Both were pretty good. However at over twenty dollars a person(not including drinks), we did not feel it was worth the price. We could have eaten at an express hibachi place with similar results. The staff was friendly and attentive. The decent food and nice people earned the 3 stars. The price, plus the disappointing atmosphere, had me leaning towards less.

Best sushi in the area. Period! The food is happy-noises good, with great quality ingredients, and the owners are so friendly and welcoming. The sushi rolls are creative and tasty and my husband and I try a new roll each time while also ordering our favorite, the golden dragon. We’ve come many times with family and visiting friends and the hibachi menu is great, too. Plus, when you’ve seen the local fishmonger eating here multiple times you know it’s fresh! Don’t be fooled if you don’t see any cars outside! Go in and try it and I promise you’ll be back!

To be honest i can only review the sushi. We did order a side of fried rice and sent it back because it tasted bland like it came out of a frozen box. However, the sushi more than made up for the trip. We got the volcano and king roll. You can see the picture above. This was honestly one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had. The staff was very friendly and i would come back in a heart beat.

This place was great: the food, the location, the price. We had the sea food pot sticker appetizer, Hawaii roll, spicy scallop hand roll, spicy tuna roll(my favorite!), spider roll, snapper and tuna sashimi and California roll(we were with someone who was unsure of raw sushi so we got this roll as a safety net, but she didn’t end up eating much because she liked everything else so much). Everything was great! It is located right on the island which made it easy to get to since we were renting a house. It’s disguised as a hole in the wall but don’t let it fool you! I can’t believe we had all that food and the price was so low! We will definitely go back each year we’re here on vacation.

Wow this was an amazing surprise! To be honest I was unsure when we walked in to an empty restaurant. How ever we were warmly greeted and promptly sat. This being my first time I did not know they had hibachi style with the neat cooking show. Chatting with one of the hostess we found out and ask to be seated for that. They did so with pleasure. Our chef was creative and fun to watch. The food was amazing! Our meal started with a salad which honestly could have been a bit better but not bad and the soup was a little bland. Adding some soy sauce and salt perked it right up. The chicken veggies and rice were great! I am very surprised this place was not busier. I deducted a star for salad and soup. The sushi I had was very fresh and flavorful. The décor could use a lil bit of something. Seems bare but I don’t go for décor I look for good food and I enjoyed this :-)

7 of us went to Kobe yesterday for a family B-day dinner, it opened at 4:30, we were the only ones in the Hibachi side of the restaurant. We were skeptical due to the overall outside & inside appearance, décor was dated, basic white walls, not what we are normally used to from other Hibachi — Sushi restaurants. The waitress didn’t understand English,(we were trying to order the Special offered on the website, and she didn’t understand) so we stuck to ordering off the menu. The Chefs cooking presentation was so so, egg shell was in the fried rice, & was a lot of banging his knife on the side of the stove to make it sound like he was doing something fancy, but it was more annoying. The salad was small and the ginger dressing watery, the soup was served luke warm and was beef based, & flavorless, and had a small float of a paper thin mushroom & a toasted onion piece in it, we all took one or 2 sips and sent it back. The waitress never asked if it was okay, just took the full bowls away??? Food portions were hearty, but the lobster was rubbery, overcooked and too much soy. Filets we not good quality, not juicy, and too much soy. Chicken was a bit overcooked also. The Chef spilled HOT chicken off my plate and burned my hand, he did offer me a new napkin as mine was used to «clean up» the mess. A complimentary dish of ice cream with a candle was brought out for the Birthday Girl after dinner. The best part of the meal was the Sushi, Phoenix, Dragon & California Rolls. I would return for Sushi Bar, but not the Hibachi. The ladies room is in need of attention, the locks on both door stalls were broken, over all it was clean.

Moved to Oak Island few months ago wanting to find a Chinese restaurant. However thought this Japanese would be good to try. Had to do take out so ordered chicken teriyaki and steak teriyaki. Both came with salad and soup and both were worthless. Soup had no taste and salad was just iceberg lettuce with couple slivers of carrot. Threw both away. The steak was the best between it and chicken. Came with white rice and grilled onions. I do want to give this restaurant another chance and try some other entrees.

I wanted so badly to enjoy my trip to Kobe. I tried to keep an open mind. I know it’s not the tourist season. I know there’s not much competition around here. It was just a bad experience on most every front. I arrived around 12:30. There were no cars in the parking lot. I wasn’t sure they were open at first. The interior was well kept. I was greeted warmly by a very polite lady who sat me immediately and took my drink order. She also kindly directed me to the lunch menu. I was the only customer in the restaurant for the entire duration of my lunch. That’s a bad sign. I ordered the chicken hibachi lunch special and three pieces of tuna nigiri(sliced tuna over sushi rice). Nigiri is my favorite kind of sushi. Simple. It’s usually a good standard by which you can judge the quality of a restaurant’s sushi bar. The hibachi lunch comes with soup and salad and our first three problems. The salad is the usual hibachi style starter. Colorless lettuce with ginger dressing. I love ginger dressing like this so I didn’t mind that the salad was drowning in it. I did make a note of it though, because it was pretty ridiculous. There was easily a full tablespoon of dressing in the bottom of my bowl after I was done. Apart from that the salad was essentially what I expected. The soup was disgusting. It’s not miso. The menu just called it «clear soup.» It seems to be just some sort of veggie stock but I’m here to say there’s not much going on in the way of stock. This soup is pretty much just warm water. There were two or three sad little mushrooms floating in it. They were dry and spongey. I don’t know if they were dried or if they were just old. This soup had almost no flavor. As I began to swim around in it a bit I started to discover small bits of mushy fried crap. It looked like burnt wonton strips had somehow hijacked a ride in my soup. I thought they were there on purpose at first but they were old and gross. At least three dime-sized chunks of burnt, soggy dough crap sat in the bottom of my bowel. I ate one accidentally and it made me gag. I was kind of grossed out by this point but I have kind of an iron stomach and I was still excited for the meal to come. My sushi came. The fish was a darker color than I had expected but there was no fishy smell and the texture looked good. The sushi was fine. No real complaints but it was nothing to write home about. The soy sauce is served in Kikkoman bottles but I’m positive it was not Kikkoman. You can pull that trick with ketchup but it’s painfully obvious when it’s done with soy sauce. The wasabi was weak and boring. Nigiri should have a subtle wasabi bite in a layer between the fish and the rice. I did not detect this at all, probably because the wasabi was so weak. Or it may have been missing all together. I did not check. I find that level of food deconstruction to be impolite in the dining room. The chicken came on a plate with the veg. Fried rice in a separate bowl. The chicken looked like I expected. Small cubes of meat covered in a golden brown sauce. I’ve been dying for broccoli lately so I started in on the veggies and tried out the sauces. Hibachi is all about sauces. This dish was served with two. One was a brown ginger sauce the other a white«yum yum» sauce. Yum yum sauce is one of my favorite toppings of all time in any cuisine. It’s the stuff of legends and it’s super simple to make(whip some up and stick it in your fridge for your next stir fry, seriously). They managed to mess it up. Both sauces were bitter and uninteresting. The chicken itself was edible but not the salty-savory deliciousness I look for in this dish. It’s supposed to be over seasoned so I can drown it in rice and it just wasn’t working. The rice was over cooked, it had a burnt smell, and the color was an odd orange-brown. I thought it was fried brown rice until I tasted it. My lunch for one cost $ 20 with tip. It wasn’t worth it. I may give them another chance sometime but all in all I’m glad I didn’t bring a date or a business associate. With all of the good reviews I expected much better and I’m beginning to wonder if Kobe’s popularity is a function of them being the only game in town for sushi. Next time I guess I’ll make the drive to Wilmington.

One of our favorite restaurants on the island. If we want sushi… this is pretty much it here, but it’s good! I love the Hibachi Chicken. I can’t even describe the flavors and the vegetables are always so fresh! I can not even begin to repeat it at home.

My husband and I(finally) tried Kobe over Thanksgiving weekend. We’re really kicking ourselves for waiting so long. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. We started off with edamame, which came out just fine. I can’t recall the names of the rolls we ordered, but they were tasty and fresh, and the quality was easily on par with what we get at our favorite spots in Raleigh. We arrived a little early and were worried at first because the place was a bit empty, but it quickly filled up. :-) Can’t wait to go back and give our lone sushi spot on the island more business!

Go inside to a great venue of Sushi and Hibachi tables. Peter and family will greet you with open arms. Sushi is phenomenal as is the rest if the menu. Give it a shot… you’ll be glad you did.

My sister and I had lunch at Kobe on a weekday. They have several decent lunch specials. I ordered two shrimp tempura rolls and my sister ordered the hibachi scallops. I loved the ginger salad dressing and mushroom soup. They brought out our food and it seemed that the waitress had misheard my order. She brought out two shrimp rolls. I decided to not send it back because I hate when food is wasted and I figured what is the big difference between fried and not fried. The roll size was pretty small compared to other sushi restaurants that I frequent. My sister’s hibachi scallops were cooked perfectly. The waitress was very polite however lost points with me due to not getting the order correct. I was bummed about not getting the tempura shrimp in the end.

We’ve eaten here last year and again during this year’s vacation and plan to return again before we leave this week. The sushi is very fresh and delicious. We were very glad to see it was still here when we returned this year the waitress was very nice, pleasant, and accomodating. The roll pieces were a bit smaller than we are used to at home for the price but it’s all more pricey on the island.
